Track allocation optimization in railway stations is one of the most fundamental problems for scheduling trains, especially in multi-direction high-speed railway stations. With the construction of high-speed rail networks, this kind of station has become increasingly common. However, the track allocation depends not only on the station tracks, train timetable, and rolling stock plan, but also on the resources in the station throat area. As a result, an effective track allocation plan becomes significant but also difficult. In this paper, we consider all these factors to make the results more practicable and an integer linear model that minimizes the total occupation time of resources in the throat area is presented. A flexible track utilization rule is also adopted to this model to fit the characteristics of the multi-direction station. Meanwhile, a detailed explanation of resources’ occupation time is illustrated to facilitate the representation of the conflicting constraints. To resolve these issues, we use a commercial solver with its default parameters. A computational experiment of a station is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model. The resources utilization plan indicates that the capacity of a station is limited by the throat area, rather than by the station tracks.

Abstract. High-speed lines are one of the safest modes of transport, despite the special conditions for moving the wheel along the rail. The urgent task is to ensure the sustainable motion of the wheel along the rail over the bridges in high-speed traffic. A feature of high-speed lines (HS lines) is the practical achievement of critical speeds that cause resonance of bridge deck structures. Cases of rolling stock derailments on high-speed lines are not frequent. The article provides information about rolling stock derailments on high-speed rail and its consequences. Standards for the stability of wheels on rails in various countries with high-speed rail were considered. On the bridges of high-speed lines there are not many elements of the track that are strong dampers — the roadbed, its base and ballast. Due to the lack of damping elements, the damping properties of the bridge deck are of great importance. When driving over the bridge with critical speeds causing near-resonance oscillations, the force in the wheel—rail contact may drop to zero with the risk of derailment. Insufficient damping poses a threat to traffic safety. Thus, one of the most important dynamic parameters — damping — is a problem for a ballastless track on high-speed railway bridges. Considerations are given for the correct determination of stiffness associated with damping and affecting the interaction of rolling stock and bridge deck. It is shown that in case of insufficient damping at the fastening points on the bridges, the risk of derailment increases due to a fall of the vertical force below the permissible limit at the wheel—rail contact. Results of computer performed experiments are presented, confirming that it is precisely the significant oscillations of the bridge deck structures that are a safety hazard, since when the first car passes, the force at the contact of the wheel and rail for the first wheelset is safe. Requirements for damping parameters are given, ensuring reliable contact of the wheel and rail with significant fluctuations in bridge deck structures on high-speed lines. Results are presented, showing the dependence of required damping on the stiffness of intermediate rail fasteners.

A fuzzy optimization model based on improved symmetric tolerance approach is introduced, which allows for rescheduling high-speed railway timetable under unexpected interferences. The model nests different parameters of the soft constraints with uncertainty margin to describe their importance to the optimization purpose and treats the objective in the same manner. Thus a new optimal instrument is expected to achieve a new timetable subject to little slack of constraints. The section between Nanjing and Shanghai, which is the busiest, of Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail line in China is used as the simulated measurement. The fuzzy optimization model provides an accurate approximation on train running time and headway time, and hence the results suggest that the number of seriously impacted trains and total delay time can be reduced significantly subject to little cost and risk.

When developing a high-speed contact suspension for railways electrified with alternating current, it is important to ensure that the electric rolling stock passes the neutral insert without turning off the current and without reducing the speed of movement. The article provides an analysis of previously developed devices in the field of power supply of electrified railways of single-phase alternating current, in which an attempt was made to pass an electric rolling stock of a neutral insert without disconnecting the load. The device of isolating coupling of a catenary and a neutral insert for high-speed railway lines electrified on alternating current is described. In this case, the passage of the neutral insert is carried out under current and braking of the electric rolling stock will not occur. Among other things, to improve the efficiency of high-speed contact suspension for railways electrified with alternating current, it is proposed to use new materials and new technologies that can be used in the device of insulating coupling of the catenary

More and more high-speed railway are under construction in China. The slow settlement along high-speed railway tracks and newly-built stations would lead to inhomogeneous deformation of local area, and the accumulation may be a threat to the safe operation of high-speed rail system. In this paper, surface deformation of the newly-built high-speed railway station as well as the railway lines in Shenyang region will be retrieved by time series InSAR analysis using multi-orbit COSMO-SkyMed images. This paper focuses on the non-uniform subsidence caused by the changing of local environment along the railway. The accuracy of the settlement results can be verified by cross validation of the results obtained from two different orbits during the same period.

In the series of articles describing the aerodynamic phenomena caused by the passage of a train, the effects of a train running at high speed on itself, on other trains, on objects on the track and on people are characterized. This impact can be of two types – generated pressure and slipstream. Apart from the literature analysis, the author’s research is also taken into account. The second part presents the effect of pressure changes on the front and side surfaces of passing trains. Conclusions concerning side windows and windscreens in high-speed railway vehicles and older type railway vehicles with lower allowable speeds and the possibility of using various rolling stock on the same lines are presented. Keywords: rolling stock, high-speed railways, aerodynamic phenomena

With the planning and progress of the construction of the trans-Eurasian high-speed rail (HSR) network, it becomes an important issue for Chinese contractors to enter the European HSR market. Facing the world’s most competitive contractors and their high technology levels, Chinese contractors will need to know their advantages and disadvantages, so as to make necessary improvements. In this study, contractors for HSR are divided into two groups: construction contractors and rail equipment suppliers. In order to evaluate the competitiveness of HSR contractors, a Grey-BPNN model that combines the grey relational analysis and backpropagation neural network (BPNN) is proposed. The Grey-BPNN model is expected to analyze the overall competitiveness of Chinese contractors in the European HSR market and provide informative decision support for them. The study results show the following: (1) in the field of HSR construction, the competitiveness gap between the top-tier Chinese contractors and the most competitive international contractors is small. Chinese contractors’ competitive advantages lie in medium- and low-technology-level projects, with a strong development potential. However, they highly depend on Chinese domestic market and lack in intangible resources, like management ability and market development ability; (2) for rail equipment suppliers, China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) ranks among the top-tier leaders of the international market. CRRC’s greatest competitor in the European HSR market is Siemens, and CRRC is much more competitive than others in the sustainable development capability. However, CRRC needs to increase the quantity of patents and Research and Development (R&D) expenditures in transportation. As a weak transportation patent holder, CRRC has a potential risk of getting intellectual property litigations in the European HSR market.
