In the modern world, attention to the use of renewable energy sources (RES) is increasing. This is primarily due to significant investments in the exploration and development of new oil and gas fields, the approaching threshold of exhaustion of these energy resources and, as a result, the end of the era of cheap oil. In addition, the use of these non-renewable energy sources is largely associated with an increase in carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and an aggravation of environmental problems. According to the energy development strategy of the European Union, energy cluster projects are designed to form and develop ties between the countries. The European Union clusters focus on the following areas: energy, nutrition and health, marine and other industries. The energy cluster includes: wind energy, biomass energy, bioenergy conversion, offshore wind energy, innovative energy ecosystem. The energy cluster of the European Union unites energy companies, promoting the integration of science and technology, creating conditions for the development of competition and cooperation between enterprises in commercial activities. For many years, clusters have been the leading form of providing for regions in the world. And the field of renewable energy is no exception here. We emphasize that this area has It has a pronounced innovation orientation and is able to become a locomotive of innovative processes in Ukraine. Forming and developing clusters in the field of RES, the regions of Ukraine can significantly accelerate their own innovative development and modernize the regional economy. Therefore, the study of foreign experience in the functioning of such clusters is extremely relevant. The high capital intensity of innovative processes in the electric power industry, combined with the significant investment potential of domestic energy companies, make it possible to consider the industry as one of the largest customers for the creation of innovative technologies. The activation of these processes in the energy sector determines the need for systematic management of the joint development of energy enterprises and related industries and areas of activity. The implementation of this approach should be facilitated by the formation and development of energy clusters. The article examines the foreign experience of creating such innovative structures in the industry.

Although government subsidies have gradually become a crucial means of endorsing public innovation policies, there remains no unified conclusion on the mechanism of their role in enterprise sustainable innovation investment. Employing sample data of listed Chinese manufacturing companies between 2011 and 2019, this study aims to discuss the incentive effect of government subsidies on enterprise innovation investment based on different enterprise ownership. With the combination of resource dependency theory and stakeholder theory, the findings suggest that the intensity of government subsidies exerts an incentive effect on corporate innovation investment; however, the incentive effect is different under the influence of political connections and investor attention. In particular, political connections inhibit the incentive effect and investor attention promotes the incentive effect. Overall, this study provides empirical evidence for the rational allocation of resources by the Chinese government and the acquisition of innovation investment by enterprises of different ownerships and the development of innovation capabilities.

Technology innovation has become the main driving force of China’s economic growth. Sustainable development highlights the harmonious symbiosis of the economy and the ecological environment. Renewable energy companies characterized by technology-intensive and environmental friendliness are playing an increasingly important role in achieving economic development while alleviating environmental pressure. Therefore, this paper selects the A-share renewable energy listed companies in China between 2014 and 2019 as samples, using the fixed-effect model and the logit model to explore the effect of technology innovation on corporate sustainability. We find that technology innovation has a positive effect on both financial sustainability (FS) and social and environmental sustainability (SES). Due to the imbalance of regional social and environmental development and different degrees of emphasis placed on environmental and social responsibility, the positive impact of technology innovation on SES is heterogeneous between the east and the central and west regions. Moreover, as the strategic emerging industry, although the renewable energy industry is granted lots of subsidies from the government, the results show that when government subsidies exceed the threshold, the effect of technology innovation on FS is weakened. Government subsidies have a negative moderating effect on the relationship between innovation and SES. Furthermore, we subdivide government subsidies into government subsidies beforehand (GSB) and government subsidies afterwards (GSA). We reveal that the threshold effect of government subsidies mainly comes from GSA, while the moderating effect of government subsidies is caused by GSA and GSB. This paper is an expansion and enrichment of current studies on sustainable development and also puts forward feasible suggestions for the government to formulate precise and effective subsidy policies to stimulate technology innovation.

Energy is the material basis for the survival and development of human society. It is of great significance for energy enterprises to obtain government subsidies, improve technological innovation ability, improve energy efficiency and realize sustainable development. Based on the data of listed energy companies in China, this paper examines the relationship between government subsidies, R & D investment and the growth of energy companies. The results show that: there is a significant positive correlation between government subsidies and the growth of energy enterprises; there is a significant positive correlation between government subsidies and R & D investment; R & D investment has a significant partial mediating effect between government subsidies and the performance of resource-based enterprises.

At present, energy transition is a crucial phenomenon that is at the very heart of governmental policies. There are a huge number of stakeholders involved in the change, but among these, the main socioeconomic actors that affect environmental and social impacts are energy companies. In this research, we analyze their institutionalized role in the Spanish wind energy sector, in the framework of the ecological movement. We consult the special views, opinions and motivations given by managers responsible for Institutional Relations in the main wind energy companies in Spain, and their perceptions of environmental reporting. We therefore tackle aspects related to the drivers of the social and environmental disclosure of environmental and social information. Research has been carried out based on documentary secondary analysis, and the use of a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews has revealed tendencies and pressures in the sector. Results suggest that the social context and public opinion pressure organizations to reveal environmental and social information. We also put forward how information is conveyed to the society through accountability practices, and the different institutionalized ways in which this is achieved.
