The structural performance of concrete structures subjected to fire is greatly influenced by the heating temperature. Therefore, an accurate estimation of the heating temperature is of vital importance for deriving a reasonable diagnosis and assessment of fire-damaged concrete structures. In current practice, various heating temperature estimation methods are used, however, each of these estimation methods has limitations in accuracy and faces disadvantages that depend on evaluators’ empirical judgments in the process of deriving diagnostic results from measured data. Therefore, in this study, a concrete heating test and a non-destructive test were carried out to estimate the heating temperatures of fire-damaged concrete, and a heating temperature estimation method using an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) algorithm was proposed based on the results. A total of 73 datasets were randomly extracted from a total of 87 concrete heating test results and we used them in the data training process of the ANFIS algorithm; the remaining 14 datasets were used for verification. The proposed ANFIS algorithm model provided an accurate estimation of heating temperature.

In the last few decades, photovoltaics have contributed deeply to electric power networks due to their economic and technical benefits. Typically, photovoltaic systems are widely used and implemented in many fields like electric vehicles, homes, and satellites. One of the biggest problems that face the relatability and stability of the electrical power system is the loss of one of the photovoltaic modules. In other words, fault detection methods designed for photovoltaic systems are required to not only diagnose but also clear such undesirable faults to improve the reliability and efficiency of solar farms. Accordingly, the loss of any module leads to a decrease in the efficiency of the overall system. To avoid this issue, this paper proposes an optimum solution for fault finding, tracking, and clearing in an effective manner. Specifically, this proposed approach is done by developing one of the most promising techniques of artificial intelligence called the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system. The proposed fault detection approach is based on associating the actual measured values of current and voltage with respect to the trained historical values for this parameter while considering the ambient changes in conditions including irradiation and temperature. Two adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system-based controllers are proposed: (1) the first one is utilized to detect the faulted string and (2) the other one is utilized for detecting the exact faulted group in the photovoltaic array. The utilized model was installed using a configuration of 4 × 4 photovoltaic arrays that are connected through several switches, besides four ammeters and four voltmeters. This study is implemented using MATLAB/Simulink and the simulation results are presented to show the validity of the proposed technique. The simulation results demonstrate the innovation of this study while proving the effective and high performance of the proposed adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system-based approach in fault tracking, detection, clearing, and rearrangement for practical photovoltaic systems.

Thresholding algorithms segment an image into two parts (foreground and background) by producing a binary version of our initial input. It is a complex procedure (due to the distinctive characteristics of each image) which often constitutes the initial step of other image processing or computer vision applications. Global techniques calculate a single threshold for the whole image while local techniques calculate a different threshold for each pixel based on specific attributes of its local area. In some of our previous work, we introduced some specific fuzzy inclusion and entropy measures which we efficiently managed to use on both global and local thresholding. The general method which we presented was an open and adaptable procedure, it was free of sensitivity or bias parameters and it involved image classification, mathematical functions, a fuzzy symmetrical triangular number and some criteria of choosing between two possible thresholds. Here, we continue this research and try to avoid all these by automatically connecting our measures with the wanted threshold using some Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Using an ANN in image segmentation is not uncommon especially in the domain of medical images. However, our proposition involves the use of an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) which means that all we need is a proper database. It is a simple and immediate method which could provide researchers with an alternative approach to the thresholding problem considering that they probably have at their disposal some appropriate and specialized data.
