Mature resource-dependent cities as resource security base, is an important guarantee for the sustained and healthy development of China's economy. But with the increasing economic and natural consumption, promoting transformation of these cities is already becoming the objective of sustainable development. Mature resource-dependent cities in Shanxi province are facing many matters, such as low energy efficiency, high dependence and low added value, fragile ecological environment and other issues. Therefore we should take efficient use of energy, promote energy base construction, optimize industrial structure, improve the technical level, better the ecological environment and use other measures to promote industrial restructuring and upgrading to achieve the goal of sustainable development.

The coal production capacity is determined by many factors, such as geological conditions, production conditions, transportation conditions, environmental factors, coal reserves and so on. The coal reserves play a fundamental role in these factors. Therefore, this paper analyzes whether existing reserves in Shanxi Province could support coal production target which is made by government of Shanxi Province after the integration of coal resources from the perspective of coal reserves. The purpose of this paper is to achieve better sustainable development of coal resources in Shanxi Province.

The settlement pattern of a village is selected and formulated as result of interaction between the natural environment and humanistic environment, rather than any accidental causes. This paper is to analyze the internal causes of the formation of the settlement pattern of Shangzhuang Village based on the research on the structure and layout of this famous village. Shangzhuang Village, being located in Yangcheng County, Shanxi Province, has a long history and rich culture. The study is intended to find some enlightenment from this vernacular architecture as a scientific swatch for the protection and sustainable development of such villages nowadays.

General Profile

Based on the field study on Huangjiagou village which is the typical settlement in the southern of Shanxi province, China, the general profile of buildings, the indoor thermal environments of the village were investigated by measuring and questionnaires simultaneously. The results revealed that: the indoor thermal environment and thermal comfort of housing were poor; the reasons of the poor indoor thermal environment were analyzed. At last, the measures of improving the indoor thermal environment were raised. It provided the theory and data basement of improving the indoor thermal environment and bringing about sustainable development of Bourg houses in hot summer and cold winter region.

Under the guidance of modernization theory and sustainable development theory, this paper constructs the evaluation system of agricultural modernization development level in Shanxi Province, evaluates the development level of agricultural modernization in Shanxi Province quantitatively by using entropy method, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of agricultural modernization development in Shanxi Province, and puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions for improving the level of agricultural modernization in Shanxi Province.
