The appearance of the COVID-19 virus in Europe, at the beginning of 2020, brought many challenges and changes to society. These changes affected the behavior, desires, and needs of passengers in vehicles. The change in passenger behavior has contributed to the more difficult organization of passenger transport and traffic management. For these reasons, in the countries of South-East Europe (Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, the Republic of Northern Macedonia and Croatia), this survey was conducted in order to examine which demographic characteristics of respondents (age, gender, residence, education, and health) influence choice of transport, with the aim to optimize the transport system in times of crisis in this region. 786 respondents participated in the research. The results showed that the acceptability of vehicle occupancy most often differs with respect to age, education, and health conditions of the respondents. The obtained results will greatly help the organizers of public transport and the transport system in the region, since based on these results they can have an insight into the demographic factors that influence the choice of transport mode during a crisis.

The rapid development of the transport sector leads not only to positive changes in the life of cities and towns, to an increase in convenience and comfort for residents, but also worsens the ecology and their living environment. The “profitable-safe” dilemma can be solved by the approach of environmentally oriented selection of the type of route passenger transport and decisionmaking in favor of electric route passenger transport. The article discusses the types of such transport on the example of the experience of their use in the Republic of Belarus. The classification and systematization developed by the authors are presented with subsequent recommendations for its application. On the basis of the results of the authors’ research, the issues of interaction of rail and non-rail route vehicles with an electric drive with the organization of road traffic are separately considered. The presented materials can be useful to a wide range of readers, as well as to specialists conducting research and practical development in the field of electrically powered route vehicles and traffic management.

In most of the countries of South East Europe, the current situation in the field of municipal waste management is characterized by unreliable and incomplete data about the physical characteristics of generated municipal waste. The first and the second part of the chapter contain the description of specific project activities that are related to measuring quantity and composition of municipal waste in municipalities in the Republic of Serbia. The methodology description for the determination of the quantity and composition of waste is analyzed in this chapter. The potential of implementing the circular economy concept in developing countries is reflected primarily in the optimization of production and industrial activities; the example of Serbia in the third part of chapter shows the opposite. In the fourth part, results of application of the AHP method are presented. Taking the obtained results as a basis, it can be concluded that the applied model can be efficiently used to support decision-making in this kind of problem.

The main objective of this paper is to determine the factors of influence on growth aspired entrepreneurial ventures in order to determine characteristics of these entrepreneurs in the SEE region. We draw upon data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor international survey in order to provide deeper insight into the high-growth entrepreneurship in selected SEE countries. For the purposes of this research, the authors included six countries in the research sample of South East Europe: Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and FYR of Macedonia. An exploratory sample of the mentioned countries was 12027 respondents and 457 high-growth entrepreneurs. Based on the nature of the observed variables, we used Spearman's correlation and ordinal logistic regression (ORL) in order to explore the relations between variables. We used OLR to explore the relation between the national culture, entrepreneurial motives, and aspiration to the level of entrepreneurial growth intentions. The findings demonstrate that entrepreneurial motives, innovation, and internationalization of new business venture have statistically significant relations with the high-growth aspirations among entrepreneurs in South East Europe region.

This article focuses on organizational alignment as a very important aspect of the organizational functioning. Organizational alignment is a complex concept and is sparsely researched and measured especially in South East Europe. There are different theoretical views on alignment but most of them focus on organizational culture, the values and the structure and strategy as main elements of alignment. Therefore, the model outlined in the paper, Vox Organizationis, proposes that the alignment should be achieved between the non-formal aspects of the organizational functioning appraised by the organizational culture as seen by the employees and the values of the organizational leader as non-formal aspects of the organizational functioning, and the formal aspect visible in the strategy, structure and policies of the organization. The paper presents a case study of one company from the ICT sector in the Republic of Macedonia to show the application and the usefulness of the model. The results in that company show good levels of overall alignment with few areas that need improvement. The significance of the paper is not only in outlining the results of the case study company, but also in showing the applicability of the model in achieving better organizational alignment.

AbstractThe remnant population of Balkan lynxLynx lynx martinoiis small, isolated and highly threatened. Since 2006 a conservation project has surveyed its status and promoted its recovery in Albania and Macedonia. Eurasian lynx are often associated with conflicts of an economic or social nature, and their conservation requires a focus on the people sharing the landscape with the species. In this study we adopt methods and conceptual frameworks from anthropology to explore the local knowledge and perceptions of lynx among rural hunters and livestock breeders in the western mountains of the Republic of Macedonia in south-east Europe. The main finding was that local people rarely saw or interacted with lynx. As the level of interactions with this species is very low, the lynx doesn’t appear to be a species associated with conflicts in Macedonia. There was also a general lack of both scientific and local knowledge, which has led to somewhat negative attitudes, mainly based on myths and rumours. Poaching of lynx and their prey seem to be the main barriers to lynx conservation.

A key factor for countries in transition is improving their export competitiveness in order to improve the economic performance of the country. The aim of this chapter is an insight into the influence of trade liberalisation within CEFTA 2006 to the member countries. Correlation analysis was used, and bilateral flows between member countries were analysed. The results show a significant influence of trade liberalisation to GDP growth, unemployment rate, public debt, and budget deficit. The results of correlation analysis are not the same for all the member countries. Greater participation in an exchange with other member countries surely would improve poor economic performances of the countries from South-East Europe. Possibilities are present for improving CEFTA 2006 through the further elimination of trade barriers and increase of total trade. The process of the accession to the EU and access to the single market is also determined by the success of CEFTA 2006.

This paper evaluates latest reforms in the Macedonian military education system. Both, contemporary challenges in military education and Euro-Atlantic commitment have shaped transformation of military education and training system in the Republic of Macedonia. Hence, these dynamics urged the redefinition of the role and responsibilities of the Military Academy “General Mihailo Apostolski” – Skopje. As a result, today, the Military Academy educates, trains and produces young military and civilian leaders ready to meet contemporary security challenges that affect the defence system, crisis management and disaster risk reduction sector, not only in Macedonia, but in the region of South East Europe as well. The paper explains how the education curricula at the Military Academy reconcile with the European credit transfer system’s requirements on the one hand, and the principles of modern warfare and security challenges on the other. In addition, the paper touches on gender issues in military education, and implementation of information technology in military education. V članku so vrednotene nedavne reforme sistema makedonskega vojaškega izobraževanja.
