The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is creating disruptive changes in urban mobility that may compromise the sustainability of the public transportation system. As a result, worldwide cities face the need to integrate data from different transportation modes to dynamically respond to changing conditions. This article combines statistical views with machine learning advances to comprehensively explore changing urban mobility dynamics within multimodal public transportation systems from user trip records. In particular, we retrieve discriminative traffic patterns with order-preserving coherence to model disruptions to demand expectations across geographies and show their utility to describe changing mobility dynamics with strict guarantees of statistical significance, interpretability and actionability. This methodology is applied to comprehensively trace the changes to the urban mobility patterns in the Lisbon city brought by the current COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, we consider passenger trip data gathered from the three major public transportation modes: subway, bus, and tramways. The gathered results comprehensively reveal novel travel patterns within the city, such as imbalanced demand distribution towards the city peripheries, going far beyond simplistic localized changes to the magnitude of traffic demand. This work offers a novel methodological contribution with a solid statistical ground for the spatiotemporal assessment of actionable mobility changes and provides essential insights for other cities and public transport operators facing mobility challenges alike.

Urban distribution in medium-sized cities faces a major challenge, mainly when deliveries are difficult in the city center due to: an increase of e-commerce, weak public transportation system, and the promotion of urban sustainability plans. As a result, private cars, public transportation, and freight transportation compete for the same space. This paper analyses the current state for freight logistics in the city center of Pamplona (Spain) and proposes alternative transportation routes and transportation modes in the last-mile city center distribution according to different criteria evaluated by residents. An analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was developed. A number of alternatives have been assessed considering routes and transportation modes: the shortest route criterion and avoiding some city center area policies are combined with traditional van-based, bike, and aerial (drone) distribution protocols for delivering parcels and bar/restaurant supplies. These alternatives have been evaluated within a multicriteria framework in which economic, environmental, and social objectives are considered at the same time. The point in this multicriteria framework is that the criteria/alternative AHP weights and priorities have been set according to a survey deployed in the city of Pamplona (Navarre, Spain). The survey and AHP results show the preference for the use of drone or bike distribution in city center in order to reduce social and environmental issues.

Resumen: desde hace un par de años, los sistemas de trasporte público enfrentan una crisis que se ha traducido en una disminución de la calidad del servicio y en la degradación o reducción de la flota, por ello algunas ciudades afrontan problemas serios de demanda que exceden la capacidad de dichos sistemas. Uno de los principales obstáculos para hacer frente a esta problemática es la falta de información sobre los patrones de movilidad de los residentes. Por ello, el objetivo de este trabajo es cuantificar el volumen de viajes y derivar la demanda potencial de trasporte público en Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, a fin de proporcionar datos básicos para su planificación y provisión. La metodología emplea un sistema de información geográfica, con información secundaria para determinar las necesidades de movilidad, a partir de la estructura familiar, sus actividades cotidianas y la accesibilidad a los modos de trasportación públicos y privados.Palabras clave: modos de trasporte; trasporte público; oferta de trasporte público; demanda de trasporte público; provisión de trasporte público; accesibilidad al trasporte público.Abstract: since a couple of years ago public transportation systems are facing a crisis, as a result of a fall in the quality of the service, as well as a degradation or reduction of the fleet. As a consequence, some cities face serious problems because demand exceeds the capacity of such systems. One of the main obstacles to address this problem is the lack of information on mobility patterns of residents. Thus, the aim is to quantify the volume of travel and derive the demand for public transportation in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, to provide basic data for its planning and provision. Public transportation is one of the most critical needs for a city, including in Indonesia. The fast and dynamic movement of society makes public transportation expected to accommodate the needs of city residents to move more quickly and efficiently. Available public transport can also reduce congestion because many city residents are switching from their private vehicles. Many cities in Indonesia are competing to develop their public transportation to modernize the life of the town. Problems will arise if the city government does not learn from history in planning the development of public transport in the city. This study aims to examine the role of historical science in the development of urban public transportation in Indonesia. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative through literature review by analyzing data and information according to the topic of the research topic. The data and information are sourced from 20 journal articles and five credible online portal sites with published years between 2019-2021. The result of this study is the role of historical science in the development of urban public transportation in Indonesia as a reference for city governments to reorganize their transportation systems in the future. This research has research limitations on the development of urban public transport in Indonesia in the 21st century. The researcher recommends further research on the role and benefits of historical science in improving urban public transportation in Indonesia to complement some lacking things from this research. At the same time was adding to the scientific treasures for many people, significant position holders in city government to be more intense in using historical knowledge as an essential study to encourage a better civilization of a city by improving the public transportation system.

A study was done to develop various innovative transportation strategies to address the changing travel needs of Arlington, Texas, residents. The study was guided by the Arlington Community Transportation Study Committee. It developed the transportation niche concept: the ability to use alternative community transportation services to address specific needs of the community in different parts of the city. Five high-priority niches were studied in detail. The success of the individual niches in particular and the integrated transportation system in general will rely heavily on the cooperation and coordination between the public and the private sectors and the acceptance of the niche concept by the general public.

Urban mobility is experiencing a profound change. Mobility patterns are becoming more complex, and typical home–work–home travel is no longer the rule, as journeys tend to connect multiple points in a rather inconstant pattern. This has changed the approach to transport planning. Existing transportation planning and operation approaches have been focussed on the ability to identify and forecast typical home–work/school–home travel and subsequently plan the transport system accordingly. The traditional approach has been: Forecast - > plan - > deliver. New mobility patterns and mobility solutions are characterised by greater flexibility, taking advantage of the “sharing concept” and simultaneously providing solutions that have lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These dynamics and an evolving environment raise several new challenges at different levels, fostering the development of Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS). This system transforms the physical transportation system into a commodity and takes advantage of the internet of things (IoT). However, the onset of MaaS solutions is anything but linear. Several business models have emerged, with different partners originating from different industries (e.g., technological, transport operators, infrastructure managers, etc.) developing their own solutions, often in competition with others. It is not unusual to find different MaaS solutions in the same city, which integrate different solutions. This paper intends to provide an analysis on the main challenges affecting mobility in general, and MaaS in particular, as well as the main business models used for delivering MaaS solutions. The paper uses a case study in Lisbon to illustrate some of the challenges.

Beirut is a car-dependent city, with 80% of Beirut citizens using their private cars to move across the city (the rate of car ownership is higher than regional and global benchmarks: 627 cars/1000 in Beirut, 550/1000 in Dubai and 170/1000 in Singapore). This reality causes two related impacts: an increased parking demand and decreased public transportation usage. Furthermore, in order to discuss these aspects, our study addresses the following question: How can the municipality’s interventions and mobility system reforms, such as smart public transportation systems and shareable mobility, reduce parking demand? As our methodology, it consists of three sections: (1) determine Beirut's parking problems by estimating parking demand and supply; (2) assess the potential effects of Beirut municipality policies in comparison to international experiences; and (3) evaluate the potential impacts of the smart public transportation system and shareable mobility in reducing parking demand. This paper studies parking growth in developing countries, such as Lebanon, and can help planners, decision-makers, and the Beirut municipality to make more informed decisions about parking policies, and to meet growing parking demand by introducing smart interventions that have high local potentials.

Jakarta is the second most populous city in the world with a population density of 10 million people in 2017. Density causes rapid development in the Jakarta area without any planning. The development that occurs makes the boundaries between office zoning located in the downtown area and residential zones located on the edge of the city. The zones formed have resulted in increased mobility that can be seen from vehicle ownership, transportation modes, and traffic congestion in Jakarta. Charles Montgomery in the book Happy City said that high congestion causes a decline in health that occurs due to stress for the community of public transportation modes. One way to reduce stress is to socialize according to Adhiatma and Christianto (2019). Third Place or social space becomes a solution for socializing for the public transportation community. The Third Place concept can be felt more by the public transportation community, where they can feel the difference between the housing zone and the office zone. The transit or transit place that is formed will be a social space that is used without differentiating social status. One of them is the transit facility located in Rawa Buaya. The Rawa Buaya transit facility is designed using qualitative data collection techniques and cross programming in design planning. The method used produces three main programs that emphasize service, entertainment and commercial functions, which shape social interaction, gathering space, and space for interaction between Rawa Buaya bus terminal communities. AbstrakJakarta merupakan kota kedua terpadat di dunia dengan kepadatan penduduk mencapai 10 juta jiwa pada tahun 2017. Kepadatan menimbulkan perkembangan yang cepat di wilayah Jakarta tanpa adanya perencanaan. Perkembangan yang terjadi membuat batasan antar zonasi perkantoran yang berada di daerah pusat kota dan zona hunian yang berada di pinggir kota. Zona yang terbentuk mengakibatkan peningkatan pergerakan mobilitas yang dapat dilihat dari kepemilikan kendaraan, pengguna moda transportasi, dan kemacetan yang terjadi di Jakarta. Charles Montgomery dalam buku Happy City mengatakan mengenai kemacetan yang tinggi menimbulkan penurunan kesehatan yang terjadi akibat stress bagi kaum komunitas moda transportasi umum. Salah satu cara mengurangi stress adalah dengan bersosialisasi menurut Adhiatma dan Christianto (2019). Third Place atau ruang sosial menjadi solusi untuk bersosialisasi bagi komunitas transportasi umum. Konsep Third Place dapat lebih dirasakan oleh komunitas transportasi umum, dimana mereka dapat merasakan perbedaan zona perumahan dengan zona perkantoran. Tempat transit atau tempat singgah yang terbentuk akan menjadi ruang sosial yang digunakan tanpa membedakan status sosial. Salah satunya fasilitas transit yang berada di Rawa Buaya. Fasilitas transit Rawa Buaya dirancang dengan menggunakan teknik pengumulan data kualitatif dan cross-programming dalam perencanaan perancangan. Metode yang digunakan menghasilkan tiga program utama yang menekankan pada fungsi pelayanan, hiburan, dan komersil, yang membentuk interaksi sosial, ruang berkumpul, dan ruang untuk berinteraksi antar komunitas terminal bus Rawa Buaya.

The phenomenon in the research is that there are still many congestion points due to the lack of road construction, lack of infrastructure related to road maintenance, and inadequate transportation modes. This study aims to analyze the Implementation of Earmarking Tax Policy on Vehicle Tax Collection in Bekasi City along with the constraints and efforts in implementation. The theory used in this study is the implementation theory of Ripley and Franklin with 3 indicators of implementation, the level of compliance, smooth routines and functions, and the realization of desired performance and impact. The research method used a qualitative approach with descriptive specificity.The result of the research is the implementation of the Earmarking Tax Policy on the Collection of Motor Vehicle Tax in Bekasi City for the compliance of the implementer in the matter of levying already in accordance with the regulation, but the allocation has not been maximal yet. Functional routine implementers are not yet maximal because there are still few technical issues and separation of funding post / account in the allocation, and no further regulations regarding technical and standard operating procedure (SOP) for earmarking tax funds cannot be seen and controlled. The realization of the performance and the desired impact is also not optimal because there are still many congestion points and road structures that are still not good and adequate public transportation for the entire reach of the City of Bekasi.

The increasing number of private vehicles shows that the public transportation system in Makassar has not been maximized. this is also due to the absence of other alternative public transportation modes that can be used by the community in their activities. This study aims to determine the preference of public modes of choice if offered other alternatives, especially public transport with greater capacity. Public transportation offered in this study is busway and monorail. In this study the community was faced with 3 modes of choice namely city transportation, monorail, and busway. The data collection method used was a survey with stated preference based questionnaires, which reviewed nine conditions for variable change in travel speed. The construction of the model was carried out using STATA software and city transportation was used as the base outcome. The model is based on discrete selection models and is analyzed by the multinomial logit model. The results showed that in the nine conditions of change in travel speed, the mode of city transportation was still more dominantly chosen by the community.

Abstract In this paper, we present a systematic analysis of large-scale human mobility patterns obtained from a passive Wi-Fi tracking system, deployed across different location typologies. We have deployed a system to cover urban areas served by public transportation systems as well as very isolated and rural areas. Over 4 years, we collected 572 million data points from a total of 82 routers covering an area of 2.8 km2. In this paper we provide a systematic analysis of the data and discuss how our low-cost approach can be used to help communities and policymakers to make decisions to improve people’s mobility at high temporal and spatial resolution by inferring presence characteristics against several sources of ground truth. Also, we present an automatic classification technique that can identify location types based on collected data.
