In this study, sound measurements of an axial piston pump and an internal gear pump were performed and subjective pleasantness judgements were collected in listening tests (to analyze the subjective pleasantness), which could be seen as the inverse of the subjective annoyance of hydraulic drives. Pumps are the dominant sound source in hydraulic systems. The noise generation of displacement machines is subject of current research. However, in this research only the sound pressure level (SPL) was considered. Psychoacoustic metrics give new possibilities to analyze the sound of hydraulic drive technology and to improve the sound quality. For this purpose, instrumental measurements of the acoustic and psychoacoustic parameters are evaluated for both pump types. The recorded sounds are played back to the participants in listening tests. Participants evaluate them regarding the subjective pleasantness by means of paired comparison, which is an indirect scaling method. The dependence of the subjective pleasantness on speed and pressure was analyzed for both pump types. Different regression analyses were carried out to predict the subjectively perceived pleasantness or annoyance of the pumps. Results show that a lower speed is the decisive operating parameter for reducing both the SPL and the annoyance of a hydraulic pump.

Hydraulic systems fed by fixed displacement pumps driven by frequency-controlled electric motors can replace conventional throttling systems due to their ability to control the speed of hydraulic cylinders regardless of the value and direction of the load. These systems can improve the energy efficiency of the drive or even provide the possibility of energy recuperation during lowering. This paper presents experimental studies of the new drive system with volumetric control of the speed of the lifted/lowered payload using the example of a scissor lift. The system uses a reversible gear pump driven by an asynchronous motor fed by a frequency inverter operating in field-oriented control mode. Comparative studies of the mapping of the assumed speed of the hydraulic cylinder and platform are presented, as well as studies of the influence of the load change on the speed and positioning of the mechanism driven by the open-loop controlled system.

The failure of hydraulic pump as a power unit in hydraulic systems affects directly the proper performance of the systems. Therefore, the monitoring of the pump performance and diagnosis of pump faults are urgent problems in want of solution. The principle of RBF algorithm is described. Study on fault diagnosis based on RBF for hydraulic pump. The test and analysis results indicate that the method is simple and efficient.

In order to realize that an asymmetric flow piston pump can control an asymmetric differential cylinder, a proposal about the application of an asymmetric flow-distributing axial piston pump is put forward. The new type of piston pump can output the flows with two different values to control the movement of the differential cylinder directly in the closed circuit and realize much ideal result of the control of the differential cylinder by a single pump. Also a simulation model of the hydraulic pump is established under the circumstance of SimulationX software, considering the characteristics of the movement of an individual piston, the oil compressibility, and the flow distribution area changed with the rotation angle. The key data of the pump is defined by means of digital simulation. In particular, an analysis is made on the dimension of the unloading groove of the port plate and the characteristics of the flow pulse of the pump. Furthermore, an experimental model pump is manufactured, the basic performances of the pump is tested on the experimental platform at various rotatory speeds such as pressure, flow and noise, in the end the accuracy of the principle is verified.

This article presents the friction torque in an internal gear pump and the friction force between an outer circumference of an outer rotor and a body, which causes a significant loss, has been investigated. When in use at a high pressure, the pump has a large friction torque due to the friction force acting on the outer rotor circumference. This friction force is caused by imbalanced force acting on the outer rotor. As well as by a positioning suction and a delivery port, the force can be reduced by setting a suction pressure recess in a section of the outer rotor circumference. In this study, through the measurement of the friction torque in an actual pump and the pressure distribution on the outer circumference of the outer rotor, it is investigated how the suction pressure recess can change the force acting on the outer rotor. The actual internal gear pump without the suction pressure recess has a large friction torque, and it corresponds to a large force on the outer rotor, which is calculated from the pressure distributions on the inside and outside of the outer rotor. In addition, on the basis of the measured friction torque of the test pump and the force acting on the outer rotor, calculated using the results of the pressure distribution, the coefficient of friction between the outer rotor circumference and the body can be estimated.

This paper aims to identify the attributes that describe aircraft interior noise, determine most important psychoacoustic models that characterize cabin sounds, and construct a prediction model that can be utilized for VIP and business jets to evaluate subjective perception. In the first part, paired comparison listening tests and free verbalization are conducted with expert subjects who experienced VIP and business aircraft flight. The study generated a list of adjective pairs that describe perception of cabin sounds to be used for semantic differential listening tests. Multi-dimensional scaling is performed on paired comparison data. Results showed that subjects’ decisions can be categorized in loudness and annoyance dimensions which are not necessarily linearly associated. The second part of the study is the development of a sound quality prediction model for aircraft cabin. Semantic differential tests are conducted with potential customers. Objective sound quality metrics are correlated to subjective test responses using principal components regression. This model is found to be most effective explaining pleasantness, comfort, and loudness perception. It is intended to be utilized to modify/redesign noise control treatments and sound signature of an aircraft. All listening tests were conducted inside an aircraft cabin simulator considering the influence of visual content.

Switchmode hydraulic power supply is a new kind of energy-saving pressure converting system, which is originally proposed by the authors. It is mainly applied in multiple-actuator hydraulic systems, and installed between hydraulic pump and actuators (one switchmode hydraulic power supply for one actuator). It can provide pressure or flow rate that is adapted to the consumption of each actuator in the system by boosting or bucking the pressure, with low power loss, and conveniently, through high-speed switch valves, just like a hydraulic pressure transformer. There are two basic types of switchmode hydraulic power supply: pressure boost and pressure buck. Their structures and working principles are introduced. The dynamic characteristics of two typical types of switchmode hydraulic power supply, the pressure boost type and the pressure buck type, were analyzed through simulations and experiments. The performances were evaluated, and improvements on the efficiency of switchmode hydraulic power supply were proposed.

A method is given for calculating pressure transients in an axial piston hydraulic pump. Some theoretical predictions are given of the effect of port timing and the effect of introducing restricting grooves at the ends of the kidney ports in the valve plate and suggestions are made of the effects of these parameters on noise emission; comparative measurements of noise are then quoted that support the general arguments. A parallel shot is recommended as the best compromise for the restrictor groove geometry to give good results over the widest range of operating conditions, including reverse rotation. Finally, mention is made of the use of a relief valve in the port plate for noise reduction.
