Mining and the utilization of mineral resources, especially coal for energy consumption, are considered a major contributor to China’s total index of environmental pollution, but there is less focus on its sustainable development. This study focused on the influence of research and development (R&D) on the sustainable development capabilities of 45 coal mining cities in China from 2008 to 2017. These cities were grouped into growing, maturity, declining, and regeneration categories. A DEAP model together with the Malmquist productivity index were used in calculating their sustainable development capabilities. It emerged that the R&D inclination for the coal mining cities was low at an average of 0.3406 and its influence has not pushed enough to reach the production frontier. The overall sustainable development capabilities of the four categories of coal mining cities were 0.6918 and also proved to have an unstable trend. There was evidence of inefficiencies in some categories of resource input and output. Technological changes (TECHCH) that promote the sustainable development capabilities grew at 12.2% for the period, which is moderately significant but still needs improvement. Major factors hindering the sustainable development of coal mining cities were insufficient desired input indicators including decisional capabilities, recovery in the treatment of pollution, and effective utilization of resources.

A community with a shared future for mankind embodies the concept of sustainable development. This is also China’s contribution to global governance. Some of the Sustainable Development Goals (such as the elimination of hunger and malnutrition) require countries to implement people-centered overall agricultural transformations, and achieving such agricultural transformations is key to ensuring sustainable agricultural development and shifting agriculture toward a greener and more ecological direction. This paper uses the SBM Directional Distance Function and Malmquist Productivity Index with calculated data from 2000 to 2016. The results show that, since 2000, China’s environmental performance index growth has been slow, with an average annual growth rate of only 0.80%. This growth has gone through three phases: a stable up and down phase, a volatility decrease phase, and a volatility increase phase. In general, agricultural technological advances have played a more visible role in promoting a strong performance in reducing carbon emissions. Agriculture in China is also on the way to becoming more sustainable and green.

This paper based on efficacy function to get a general assessment about the mineral resources in China on sustainable development level in five major categories: existence, development, society, environment and human resource. Meanwhile, the OLS method is also utilized to make a regressive analysis. The sustainable development of mineral resources in china is fairly well in development and human resource while show trend of continuous growth. The increase of sustainable development in society is slowing down and turning to be tranquil. However, sustainable development level is severe in existence and environment hence illustrate a exasperate trend.

Sustainable development of the Stebnyk Mining Industrial Area (MIA) is fully consistent with the goal of the National Program for the Development of the Mineral Resources of Ukraine until 2030. It is the ensuring the urgent needs for mineral resources without the risk of depriving future generations of their needs (On Approval of the National Program…, 2011). The triune concept of sustainable development is based on the economic, environmental and social components. For practical implementation of the sustainable development strategy of Stebnyk MIA, it is expedient to design, create and operate the Stebnyk natural and man-made geopark based on the blighty (Zinko, Shevchuk, 2011; Mokryi et al., 2017) and European (Alexandrowicz., 2006) experience. Expert assessments of the environment indicate the need to use information and analytical technologies in the management, modeling, and design of environmental safety Stebnyk MIA.

Mineral resources provide a high standard of living for modern societies: satisfying electricity demand as well as demand for construction materials and they sustain the basis for industry and technological development. Now, modern societies are facing the challenge ofreversing the trend of the depletion of non-renewable mineral resources and sustainable development is intended to ensure the survivalof human civilization in the face of dwindling non-renewable raw materials (especially energy resources) and also increasing anthropopression and related environmental pollution. The amount of non-renewable mineral resources of the Earth's crust is limited. Underspecific conditions there is a possibility of their regeneration however over a period of several if not more than a dozen generations. Thearticle raises questions how societies can prevent mineral resources crises in future and whether this task is feasible.The article identifies the main aspects of the sustainable development in mining sector in Poland as well as environmental challengesrelated to the new CSR mechanism which are: the creation and implementation of sustainable and responsible business model whichthanks to reformed financial and economic system, will make creating a better future easier, more natural and more cost-effective.The crucial aspects of sustainable development as economic and social conditions, environmental challenges, safety of agglomerationlocated in the area of exploitation of resources or in its neighborhood were also presented in the article. The author highlighted thelegal conditions for the management of deposits and extracted mineral resources as well as work safety and research and developmentactivities in the sector.

The concept of sustainable development (SD) is aimed at ensuring public well-being for the present and future generations. Hundreds of methods have been proposed for assessing and comparing the sustainable development of countries and analyzing their contribution to the future of the world. When applied to resource-based economies (RBEs), assessment tools do not take into account the value and impact of mineral resources on SD indicators. The purpose of the study is to reveal the limitations of applying some tools by taking into consideration the specific features of RBEs. Research methods include a correlation analysis between gross national income (GNI) per capita and aggregated indices (the Sustainable Society Index (SSI), the Human Development Index (HDI), and the Environmental Performance Index (EPI)), a comparative analysis of these indices and mining companies’ performance indicators. Object Eurasian RBEs were selected, but Norway was analyzed separately from the sample. The results of the study show that correlations between GNI per capita and SD indicators are heterogeneous. There is no statistically significant correlation between GNI per capita and SSI, a strong correlation with HDI, and a weak correlation with EPI. The EPI and SSI structures do not reflect the specific features of RBEs.

China's cement and concrete industry is still in rapid development period. Cement production and application consumes amount of mineral resources and fuels. A mass of greenhouse gases are released. Resource consuming and greenhouse gases releasing has a direct impact on resource depletion and global climate change. By using new technologies to reduce consumption of cement and concrete is of importance for conserving resources, reducing emissions and achieve the sustainable development of the industry.
