Civic agency is acknowledged as a key driver/catalyst for social transformation toward sustainability. Recent environmental citizenship education (EEC) models advocate a transformative approach for addressing environmental unsustainability (addressing underlying structural causes) and the identification of the development of change agents, as both the means for deep social transformation toward sustainability and the outcome of EEC. Given the paucity of studies looking into the psychological attributes of sustainability change agents, this work aims to deepen the theoretical understanding of the motivations that drive individuals to act as change agents and the type and extent of the change that they aspire to effect, with a view to developing competent environmental citizens. To this end, this conceptual work applies Schwartz’s theory of universal values to construct a three-level framework of environmental citizenship (EC) (individual-level, community-level, and socially-transformative-level). Each level reflects an increasing level of change agency that is driven by distinct motivational values and competences. The framework shares affinities with qualitative change agency typologies in the literature but claims that these different qualitative types reflect expanding ‘levels-of-concern’ and an increasing extent of change, as expressed in the EC framework. The paper then discusses curricular implications for the design of meaningful EEC deriving from the framework: Effective EEC entails developing change agency by adapting learning to the EC-level of the learners and the educational organization. The proposed EC/change agency framework provides a scaffold for such curricular adaptation.

Subject. The emergence of new ways of interaction between sellers and buyers, the formation of new sales channels and product promotion based on the use of digital economy tools is at the heart of improving the business processes. Social networks became a tool for development; their rapid growth necessitates theoretical understanding and identification of potential application in enterprise's business process digitalization. Objectives. We explore the role of social media in the digitalization of business processes, systematize the impact of social networks on business processes of enterprises in the digital economy. Methods. The theoretical and methodological analysis of social networks as a tool for digitalization of company's business processes rests on the content analysis of domestic and foreign scientific studies, comparison, generalization and systematization. Results. We highlight the key effects of the impact of social networks on the business processes of the company; show that the digitalization of business processes should be considered in the context of a value-based approach, aimed at creating a value through the algorithmization of company operations. We determine that social networks are one of the most important tools for digitalization of company's business processes, as they have a high organizational and management potential. We also systematize the effects of social media on company's business processes. Conclusions. We present theoretical provisions of the impact of social networks on business processes of enterprises, which will enable to model and organize ideas about the development of digital ecosystems and the formation of business models.

Background. Change agents’ actions have been studied mainly from a theoretical perspective. Purpose. This study aimed to empirically identify occupational therapists’ actual change agent actions. Method. As part of a research partnership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists-Québec chapter, we conducted this cross-sectional pilot study using an online survey. Findings. The change agent practices of our 103 participants involve many types of actions but show underinvestment in mass communication. Mass communication actions are more frequent when participants have greater experience, additional academic degrees, and training in change agency. Also, occupational therapists with additional academic degrees and change agency training tend to use a wider variety of actions. Finally, our participants’ actions principally target actors in the clinical context, rarely political actors. Implications. Our results suggest that occupational therapists can and will invest in the full range of change agent actions provided they can acquire the necessary knowledge and skills.

Armed conflict has left behind a legacy of social separation, physical loss of human lives and a population suffering from many kinds of physical and mental morbidities. In the post-conflict context, a lengthy political transition, coterie politics and the absence of a stable government are severely hindering the realisation of people's aspirations. Such hindrances have fostered a deep level of political frustration and promoted a culture of depoliticization. In Rolpa, lack of political commitment has meant people's health has become an overlooked agenda and has forced people to lose hope for change and survive with silent sufferings. Through the lens of a value-critical approach, this paper attempts to explore the relationship between politics of exclusion and its reflection on individual level pain and suffering in Rolpa.

Less charted territory, however, moves beyond integration of theory and practice to the cultivation of scholars' as committed people who possess a compass of values and vision as they act as catalysts for change in the world of practice. The purpose of this chapter is to explore the kind of cultivation needed to effect the transformation required for doctoral scholars to move beyond translation of theory to practice to the next step of catalyzing change. This chapter explores the intersection of core constructs or strands for creating scholars as change agents – identity, commitment and civic agency. These elements are examined from a theoretical framework, and in context of a case example of a doctoral program that bridges the academy and the community.

This article takes a postmodernization perspective on support for the right to euthanasia by treating it as an expression of a process of value change, as a preference for quality over quantity of life. Using the data from the fifth wave of the World Values Survey, this study attempts to answer the question of whether the mass support for the right to euthanasia is an expression of autonomy values rather than just a function of a low religiosity. Multilevel regressions demonstrate that both traditional religiosity and autonomy values have a high impact at the individual level, while at the country level only the effects of traditional religiosity are significant. Autonomy values have stronger association with attitudes to euthanasia in countries with higher levels of postmaterialism. Multilevel path analysis demonstrates that the effect of religiosity is partially and weakly mediated by the values of autonomy at both levels. Although religiosity was found to have a much stronger impact, the independent effect of autonomy values suggests that mass support for the right to euthanasia is a value-driven preference for quality over quantity of life. We conclude by suggesting that the fall in traditional religiosity might emphasize the role of values in moral attitudes regulation.

This study proposes a value chain model for business incubation. It describes both an incubated start-up’s development of its own product and business and the incubator’s development of the start-up from entrance to exit as a “product” of the incubator. The reported research is based on qualitative content analysis of 15 start-up cases in a Norwegian business incubator. The reported research enhances our theoretical understanding of start-up development processes within an incubator and provides a framework that will be useful for incubator management to guide incubatees through their venture creation process.

Knowledge sharing is considered to be an essential concept and a determinant of success regarding knowledge management. The current paper reviews the most relevant quantitative studies, within the context of individual-level knowledge sharing. The main aim of this paper is to identify the relevant individual factors that influence knowledge sharing. Furthermore, it seeks to identify relevant theories, previously used in literature, that communicate a theoretical understanding of individual levels of knowledge sharing. The researchers searched through five well-known databases using a combination of keywords related to the study context. By applying filtration procedures to the articles gathered from the selected databases, the literature survey revealed 31 most relevant articles. As a result of reviewing the selected articles, it has been indicated that the factors that most affect knowledge sharing include trust, reciprocity, self-efficacy, altruism, and reputation. These factors, studied through different contexts, have been found to significantly affect the behavior of individuals in terms of sharing knowledge. Furthermore, it has been found that the social exchange theory has been repeatedly used. It has been concluded that the resulted antecedents may influence the knowledge sharing of individuals and consider these factors by the decision makers will motivate the individual’s intention to knowledge sharing.

PurposeThis study addresses the research question: How does the experiential knowledge, superstitious knowledge and the wisdom of CEOs influence the internationalization behaviour of SMEs?Design/methodology/approachAn exploratory qualitative study is used. Longitudinal case studies of two Swedish life science companies are analysed.FindingsAn individual's prior experiential knowledge influence the newly started SME's market commitments and internationalization behaviour. Such prior experiences can enable early and rapid resource commitments in the newly started SMEs. Relying upon such prior experiential knowledge in deciding upon the company's market commitments however heightens the risk of superstitious learning. The findings illustrate how wisdom can work as an antidote to superstitious learning. Wisdom lures even experienced CEOs away from believing they know more than they actually know.Research limitations/implicationsThe study contributes to extend the Uppsala model by incorporating the role of individual-level experiential knowledge. The study also adds value to the literature on small firm internationalization by providing propositions for how the prior knowledge of individual key decision makers influences SMEs' internationalization behaviour. The propositions provide new input to the ongoing discussion in the literature and help to guide future research.Originality/valueGiven the fact that the Uppsala model is centred upon a firm-level view on experiential knowledge, our theoretical understanding is still limited regarding how individual-level experiential knowledge influences the internationalization behaviour of SMEs. This study addresses calls for research on how individuals' prior knowledge influences small-firm internationalization.

Today we observe the dynamic changes in relations between the sexes in the family, which appear as a result of economic, cultural, and social transformation, the growth of women’s economic strength, as well as the level of their education, and the development of the ideas of the equal rights of women and men in the labour market and in social life. Hitherto existing research results show that Poles are increasingly in favour of the egalitarian family model and declare their wish to build their relationships based on equality. In the article I will characterise our cultural context, in which the egalitarian relation of a man and a woman in a family is both an educational space of confrontation between the “old” concept of family life, often rooted in Parsons’ concept of the nuclear family, and the “new” one, specific for the socio-cultural breakthrough in Poland. I will also present the involvement of formal education in fixing stereotypical images of family life, which are in opposition to the changes observed in relations between women and men. At the end I will present my own concept of education for equality in the marital relations, as well as the frame of equality between spouses in marital relations as a value of upbringing, which are a response to the needs of contemporary women and men.
