Sustainability has become a relevant element for organizations due to several motivators: companies adopt sustainability practices in need for regulatory compliance, anticipation of regulatory changes, understanding of limited natural resources, and a desire to limit expenditure associated with resource consumption and waste disposal. Thus, this article aims to identify the gaps present in maturity models, present an integrator theoretical model that considers the characteristic elements of the models present in the literature and affects the level of maturity in sustainability. The construction of the integrator theoretical model was based on the following stages: research questions; theoretical framework on Supply Chain Management; sustainability and concept of maturity model; maturity models and performance measurement systems; interpretation/analysis of research; and construction of the integrator theoretical model. The literature review was carried out in the Scopus and Web of Science databases. The main conclusions: maturity models focus on only one aspect or are excessively broad and do not include in detail the elements necessary to measure the level of maturity in sustainability. The proposed model aims to mitigate these gaps with the addition of the cross-sectional dimension, which offers an integrated and holistic view in relation to the other dimensions.

The authors describe how organizations can leverage the maturity model approach in conjunction with foundational concepts of perspective-based performance evaluation models like the balanced scorecard (BSC) to define a comprehensive performance measurement framework. A maturity model by design provides a road-map to the next level of performance. In this chapter, the authors propose using maturity models as a structured way of identifying current capability or maturity level of any supply chain. The authors provide guidance on selecting the right “causal linkages” between supply chain objectives and performance measures. They then define a mechanism for specifying even more granular definitions of measures linked to strategic objectives, as the level of maturity progresses. In this chapter, the authors survey widely used supply chain/business process maturity models and current practices related to measuring operational metric. And then present a tiered framework for operational metric alignment and KPI governance based on perspective-based modeling design principles.

Supply chain management is the practice of coordinating the flow of goods, services, information and finances as they move from raw materials to parts supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer. Thus it is important for organisations to build up their partner networks supporting their long-term demand forecasts for capacity requirements. Constructing such an ecosystem, the companies need some supporting framework. The current article proposes maturity model based approach that could assist companies in their decisions.

Supply Chain Intelligence (SCI) is relatively new initiative that provides the capability to improve business performance by utilizing sophisticated analytical tools and collaborative decision making. SCI takes broader, multidimensional view of supply chain in which, using patterns and rules, meaningful information about the data can be discovered. In this chapter, the drivers for the implementation of the business intelligence and performance measurement systems are discussed. Review of the most important literature and research findings provides condensed view of the existing state of the art. Furthermore, the integrated supply chain intelligence system that enables creation of pervasive analytical systems for collaborative planning, monitoring and management of the supply network is described. The SCI system is robust and cloud-based, capable to handle big data analytical tasks. Its flexible and multi-layered architecture enables creation of adaptive supply chain intelligence systems by composing various analytical software components, services and tools.

PurposeThe aim of this study is to develop a framework for measuring of service supply chain (SSC) maturity process.Design/methodology/approachThe main framework of the SSC maturity was developed by reviewing the concepts and models of SSC, business excellence, maturity and supply chain performance evaluation. Then, the maturity level of each excellence criterion was defined in the proposed model by using the excellence criteria for SSC and the concept of Plan, Do, Check and Act (PDCA) cycle in combination with the process survey tools maturity model. Based on the excellence criteria and their maturity levels, a questionnaire was designed to practically measure the proposed framework.FindingsThe concepts and features of maturity levels defined for each of the excellence criteria were used to implement and operationalize the proposed framework and evaluate the SSC processes.Practical implicationsThrough the assessment of the existing status of SSC processes, the findings allow managers to reach a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of such processes. Then, some opportunities are provided for improving each excellence criterion to enhance the performance of each process.Originality/valueIn fact, this study provides guidelines for organizations to measure their progress and performance and improve their management systems. The main advantages of the proposed SSC measurement framework include self-assessment facilitation, calculation of criteria scores and development of uses. The proposed model, like quality and productivity awards, can pave the way for increased competitiveness of the service industry.

Purpose This paper aims to show that current Industry 4.0 maturity models primarily focus on manufacturing processes. Until now, research has been lacking with regard to outbound logistics, that is, the delivery process. This paper develops such a model. Design/methodology/approach Methodologically, this paper is grounded in design science research (DSR) and rigorously follows the model development guidelines presented by De Bruin et al. (2005). This work builds on current maturity models and original empirical research to populate and test the model. Findings The model appears to be applicable to describing the status quo of the digitization efforts in outbound logistics, developing a corporate vision for delivery logistics excellence and providing guidance on the development path. Research limitations/implications Thus far, the model has been applied only for a development stakeholder. For further validation, the authors are currently working on additional case studies to demonstrate the model’s applicability. Practical implications The developed model provides guidance for the digitization of an important value-adding activity in supply chain management: the delivery process. Originality/value To the authors’ knowledge, the proposed model is the first to explicitly consider the delivery process; therefore, it complements available approaches that focus on the manufacturing process. Moreover, the results show that the widely used Supply Chain Operations Reference model can serve as the basis for additional process maturity models.

Soft-bodied locomotion in fluid-filled confined spaces is critical for future wireless medical robots operating inside vessels, tubes, channels, and cavities of the human body, which are filled with stagnant or flowing biological fluids. However, the active soft-bodied locomotion is challenging to achieve when the robot size is comparable with the cross-sectional dimension of these confined spaces. Here, we propose various control and performance enhancement strategies to let the sheet-shaped soft millirobots achieve multimodal locomotion, including rolling, undulatory crawling, undulatory swimming, and helical surface crawling depending on different fluid-filled confined environments. With these locomotion modes, the sheet-shaped soft robot can navigate through straight or bent gaps with varying sizes, tortuous channels, and tubes with a flowing fluid inside. Such soft robot design along with its control and performance enhancement strategies are promising to be applied in future wireless soft medical robots inside various fluid-filled tight regions of the human body.

Since the beginning of year 2020, Covid-19 pandemic crisis attacks the whole world. The outbreak affects all companies from all sizes across all industry sectors. As a result, global economy is significantly impacted by Covid-19. In order to provide a holistic view on the matters related to impacts faced by companies as well as how the companies create value during the pandemic periods, companies will improve the information disclosures to the stakeholders. As integrated reporting improves quality of information on non-financial information, it is able to provide useful information on future prospects of companies as well as the effects of pandemic. Cross sectional analysis and content analysis will be used in the study. This study suggests that when companies apply integrated reporting to produce the annual reports, there will be an improvement of firm performance. This study also proposes that the roles of family firms and board gender diversity can also influence the association between integrated reporting disclosures and performance of company. The findings of study can give an overall picture to the management on how the integrated reporting disclosures influence firm performance. Results of study can also be employed by regulatory bodies to design policies to promote the adoption of integrated reporting.
