The concept of Smart Tourism is rapidly developing alongside Smart Cities, with increasing numbers of ICT solutions being applied for the convenience of travelers as well as for gathering information, which has become a valuable resource. The vast progress in the development of Information Technologies has also impacted the needs and expectations of tourists. However, various branches of tourism are adopting this concept at a different pace, and thus a growing development gap might emerge. Cases from all over the world show that museums are not immune to this, and it is important for their future to meet these expectations. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to investigate the use of modern technologies in Polish museums and assess their readiness for adopting Smart Tourism. For this purpose, a nationwide online survey was conducted with a sample size of 218 museums (from 500 unique entities in total). The results show that the issue of Smart Tourism in Polish museums is ambiguous. The results reveal that, currently, the status of Smart Tourism adoption in museums is quite low, and significant gaps in some areas are shown; at the same time, other areas revealed a high potential for the future application of Smart Tourism.

In the information society the status of information is changing: this main value of global civilization becomes an important resource of socio- economic, technological and cultural development. The rapid development of virtual technologies and the growing number of Internet users in Ukraine and in the world causes the new challenges to communication of each organization. The book publishers are also obliged to respond to these processes. However, the works devoted directly to publishers’ communication in the modern media space are still lacking in Ukraine. The objective of the article is to clarify peculiarities and conditions of the activities of Ukrainian book publishers in today’s media space which is an important issue today. It is analyzed the literature and sources on this issue and it is ascertained the theoretical and practical possibilities to take into account the trends in the world of modern media in the PR-activity of book publishers. Also the prospects for further scientific study and practical use of PR-communications in the activity of publishers are determined. The analysis of current changes in the modern information space allows us to trace the general tendencies: the new subject and object areas are formed; the number of subjects is expanded; the new formats of interaction within the system of communications of the organization and in society as a whole are created. That means that publishing house’s PR-communications are complicated by the emergence of new elements, such as active audience, social networks as communication channels, promotions on the Internet and others. PR communication in the Internet space is the most effective and inexpensive tool for interaction of publishers with active audiences. Thus, the activation of PR communication in the modern media space is associated with the emergence of the latest information technologies, online media as well as development of Internet. The use of online channels of Internet for communication with the target audience of publishing organizations has certain advantages over traditional media. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the information saturation of media space, which complicates the way of PR-messages of book publishers to the reader.

Many researchers in optomechatronics face the globalization of technologies they developed and implemented on production lines such as optical lithography, fiber optics, optical sensors and communication, micro/nano-optical engineering, intelligent and smart technologies, machine vision, optics-based control, visual servoing, vision-based control, microrobotics, and optics-based navigation and sensing. Optomechatronics is an active research field in which many types of optical technologies are combined with mechatronics, including mechanisms, electronics, and information technologies. Optomechatronics thus develops new technical, smart, embedded functions and systems for very broad applications. We have organized several international conferences for optomechatronics and optomechatronic systems sponsored by SPIE during this decade. At Sapporo in 2005, the SPIE international symposium on optomechatronic systems, ISOT2005, was held as a joint symposium of five conferences: actuators and manipulation, sensors and instrumentation, micro/nano-devices and components, machine vision, and systems control. The organization attracted 174 papers from around the world, and provided a fruitful forum for discussions on the status and future issues in optomechatronics. This special issue was planned partly to include many of the qualified papers presented at the symposium and to promote other researchers in peripheral fields of optomechatronics to submit their research to encourage researchers interested in it to develop systems and technologies more skilled, smarter, and more robust in the real-world environment. We thank the authors for their invaluable contributions and the reviewers for their valuable time and effort.

The development of smart cities has yielded into a desirable objective among many cities around the world. International indexes of smart cities focus on large urban cities without interest on intermediate cities of developing countries. This paper pretends to fill this gap by proposing a smart city index for the capital cities in Argentina, together with Buenos Aires City and Bahia Blanca. The index is compound of four dimensions: Environment, Governance, Society and ICT, and Mobility and Transport which are based on a set of indicators. Data emerges from official websites and national statistics. In the case of Bahia Blanca, a wider smart city index with subjective indicators from an online survey is built. Alternative versions of the index, weighted (according to the vision of citizens, enterprises and politicians) and non-weighted are provided. Results show that the cities of Bahia Blanca, Ciudad Autonoma de Buenos Aires and Cordoba are the third smartest cities in Argentina.

The smart tourism destination (STD) is an adaptation of the smart-city concept into a tourism destination. Smart cities relate to the urban use of technologies and internet in order to improve economic growth, quality of life, efficient management of resources, and generation of governance processes and social participation. This paper aims to highlight the perception that different tourism experts in Puerto Vallarta have about intelligent tourism destinations. The working method of this research was through a Delphi study to analyze the responses of local experts on the status of STD´s and their future trends. The experts’ perceptions on the concept’s definition, regional capacity for innovation, technological components, linking, and sustainability was analyzed. Experts perceived an optimistic scenario for STD in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México. The participants in this study value the factors that determine the implementation of STDs as determinants; there are at least three of them: Training, Investment, and Governance.

A key strategic aim of tourism destinations within the smart tourism paradigm is to achieve efficient, responsible and sustainable use of tourism resources. This aim can be achieved by promoting the appropriate practices and making tourists co-managers, co-designers and co-creators of tourism experiences. This paper argues that smart tourism destinations should manage their resources in a sustainable way and that smart technologies can make their contribution. Could a smart technology such as social media/social networking sites make a contribution to sustainable tourism within the smart tourism paradigm? To address this research question, a project was carried out to explore the perceptions and attitudes of Chinese tourist consumers about the contribution of social networking sites to adopting a sustainable and responsible behavior within the context of a smart tourism framework. First a research framework encompassing three hypotheses related to the influence of social networking sites at the three main stages of the travel cycle/tourist journey was designed. An exploratory quantitative research was then carried out using the online survey technique. The study’s findings indicate that the use of social networking sites influences the smart tourists at all three stages on adoption of sustainable and responsible behavior, the most significant influence is at the first two stages. The article is completed by discussing the related conclusions and management implications in the smart tourism management framework.

Purpose. The purpose of the article is to analysis of trends and formation of recommendations for the introduction of smart city technologies in the development strategy of the urban community. Methodology of research. The research methodology contains the following general scientific methods, namely: bibliographic – for the analysis and systematization of scientific works on the development of "smart" cities, modelling of their technological and information structures; historical and practical – to study the practical experience of introducing intellectual elements in the urban space; comparative – to determine the priorities of the components of the "smart city" model; abstract and logical – in forming conclusions and formulating recommendations. Findings. It is determined that the European model of smart city development provides for the introduction of such components as smart - economy, mobility, ecological approach to environmental protection; digital technologies; development of information, digital and general culture of residents; smart lifestyle; e-government. The world tendencies and Ukrainian practices of introduction of smart elements for digitalization of management of infrastructure of the city are analysed. It is determined that the technological solutions of a smart city are developed on the basis of Internet of Things technologies, active use of feedback principles, formation of data transmission infrastructure, data collection, processing and analysis systems. It is revealed that the introduction of smart technologies is carried out in fragments both in Ukraine and in the world. It is analysed that the development strategies of Ukrainian cities do not contain separate sections on the introduction of smart technologies. Ukrainian cities lag far behind in the pace of innovation and do not have separate strategies for the development of a smart city. It is proved that all stakeholders should have information on the formation of the city's development strategy and, in particular, its smart technologies, understands their level of responsibility and participation in decision-making mechanisms and implementation of the introduced technologies. Originality. The model of a smart city has been improved, taking into account trends in the development of smart cities and identifying priority areas for the development of smart technologies in the management of infrastructure and urban information environment. The information environment involves the use of a multi-loop information system to support the life of the city in various areas. Such a system contains the necessary functionality, as well as special emotional and motivating contours to increase the activity of citizens, ensure transparency of decision-making by city leaders and more. Practical value. The formed recommendations can be used by project groups of city councils for improvement of strategies of development of cities and development of scenarios of introduction of elements of system of the smart city. The purpose of the study is to synthesize the principles of smart tourism destination and justify their application for the purpose of development of tourist innovations in urban tourism. The purpose of this article is also to explore the relationship in the development of "smart destination" and "smart city" as information systems. Such studies are important in the context of the sustainable development of urban tourism. Methods. This study used a comparative analysis of modern electronic and literary sources on the topic of smart cities and smart destinations. An analogy method was used to identify similarities and differences in the development of information systems. The classification method was applied to study the main features of development of smart destination. Results. Thanks to smart destination technology, tourists become a resource for development of tourism. This technology also enhances engagement and integration with target audiences. The implementation of the concepts of smart city and smart destination requires consideration of several important factors that will create favourable preconditions for their implementation. Smart tourism is the dominant trend in the world now. With smart tourism, locals and tourists alike can interact with a convenient, safe, informative environment. Smart destinations open up previously unattainable opportunities for businesses to improve their products and services. The main feature and advantage of a smart tourist destination is its customer orientation. Scientific novelty. The article analyses the main trends of smart tourism destinations in the world. The components and main directions of the development of smart destinations are determined. The analysis of modern global tendencies of smart destinations development is carried out. Practical significance. The results of the study can be used in planning the further development of smart tourism destination in Ukraine and the corresponding adjustment of the policy of tourist innovations.

This chapter provides an insight into the topic of smart destinations. By adopting smart technologies, tourism destinations, as well as cities, gain more opportunities to offer better quality of life for residents and visitors. Smart cities aim to improve resource management, sustainability, and living conditions in urban environments by utilizing ICTs. The concept of smart tourism destination, deriving from smart city, refers to the use of technology in tourism destinations to increase the service quality and tourist satisfaction by focusing on tourists' expectations. In other words, smart tourism destinations aim to integrate technology into the destination for these purposes. This chapter presents the concepts of smart city, smart tourism, and smart destination. The emergence of smart city and smart destination concepts and the issues and challenges they might face are discussed. In addition to some future research directions, a brief discussion on potential controversies is presented.

The Smart Cities designed for All must aim to arrange the disparity in cities through smart technology, making cities both smart and accessible to a range of users regardless of their abilities or disabilities. The birth of “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) has facilitated the complex computations for reality simulation the new communication era of wireless 5G, all combined have given the hope for a new and better future, to reverse disability to empower the humans with more capabilities, to be faster than they can ever be, stronger than they can ever dream. This paper provides an overview of Ambient Intelligence and smart environments, as well as how technological advancements will benefit everyday usage by devices in common spaces such as homes or offices, and how they will interact and serve as a part of an intelligent ecosystem by bringing together resources such as networks, sensors, human-computer interfaces, pervasive computing, and so on.
