Previous studies on handball players’ performance are focused more on influence of physical, physiological factors and tactical strategies and less on the influence of cognitive, metacognitive and attentional regulation strategies. Performance can be achieved by attentional and emotional regulation alongside cognitive, metacognitive and procedural regulation strategies. This study explores the association between self-regulation strategies, mindfulness practice and performance. The sample consists of 288 Romanian handball players. The participants were 30% male and 70% female, with age between 12.01 and 14 years old, divided in three categories. The quantitative research design is descriptive and transversal. The method was survey based on questionnaires. There were interesting results found in different age categories and different performance levels. The variables (state mindfulness of body, self-monitoring, and self-efficacy) explained 87% of the variance in sports performance, in a hierarchical multiple regression. The research findings indicated that handball players with a high level of acceptance of one’s own thoughts and emotions, non-judging present-moment awareness, conscious monitoring the execution of movements, and confidence in their abilities to succeed could have more chances to achieve the desired performance.

The purpose of this study is identify factors that affect students motivation in  learning Arabic among lower secondary level students at Naim Lilbanat National Religious Secondary School (SMKA), Kota Bharu, Kelantan. To achieve this purpose, four objectives have been outlined; to identify the level of students performance in Arabic, to identify the level of students interest towards Arabic, to identify factors that affect students motivation towards Arabic and to evaluate the relationship between motivation and students performance in Arabic. This quantitative research used questionnaires for collecting data. 93 students at lower secondary level at SMKA Naim Lilbanat were selected by simple random technique as the sample that represent 40% of the research population. A pilot study was conducted to ensure the quality of feasibility, validity and reliability of the instrument. The validity of items was obtained by referring to 10 experts of the subject matter. Coefficient of reliability value was obtained at a high level that is 0.86 through Cronbach Alpha test using SPSS version 19. The study found that 88 (94.6%) respondents have a good performance in Arabic and 78 (83.9%) respondents have a good interest towards Arabic. According to this study, five factors that affect students motivation in descending order are: attitude toward Arabic as they consider it as important, Arabic environment, attitude toward Arabic as they consider it as easy to learn and understand, self-awareness and the effectiveness of teaching and learning in the classroom. The Pearson correlation test showed that there is a positive significant relationship at a moderate level between level of interest and performance of Arabic among lower secondary level students at SMKA Naim Lilbanat.   Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti faktor-faktor yang membentuk motivasi terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Arab dalam kalangan pelajar peringkat menengah rendah di Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Naim Lilbanat, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Bagi mencapai tujuan tersebut, empat objektif telah digariskan iaitu mengenal pasti tahap pencapaian pelajar bagi mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab, mengenal pasti tahap minat pelajar terhadap mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab, mengenal pasti faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi motivasi pelajar terhadap mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab dan menguji hubungan tahap motivasi pelajar dengan pencapaian Bahasa Arab. Kajian ini berbentuk kuantitatif dan menggunakan soal selidik sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Seramai 93 orang pelajar peringkat menengah rendah di SMKA Naim Lilbanat telah dipilih secara rawak mudah sebagai sampel yang merupakan 40% daripada jumlah populasi kajian. Satu kajian rintis telah dijalankan bagi menjamin kualiti kebolehlaksanaan, kesahan dan kebolehpercayaan instrumen. Kesahan instrumen diperoleh secara merujuk kepada 10 orang pakar bidang. Nilai keefisienan kebolehpercayaan item diperoleh pada tahap tinggi iaitu 0.86 daripada ujian Alpha Cronbach menggunakan perisian SPSS versi 19. Kajian ini mendapati 88 orang (94.6%) responden mempunyai pencapaian yang baik dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab. Kajian ini juga mendapati 78 orang (83.9%) responden mempunyai tahap minat yang baik terhadap mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab. Lima faktor yang paling mempengaruhi motivasi pelajar secara turutan menurun ialah: sikap terhadap mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab yang dianggap penting, persekitaran bahasa Arab, sikap terhadap mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab yang dianggap mudah dipelajari dan difahami, kesedaran diri dan keberkesanan pengajaran dan pembelajaran dalam bilik darjah. Ujian korelasi Pearson memperlihatkan wujud hubungan positif yang signifikan pada kadar sederhana antara tahap motivasi dan pencapaian Bahasa Arab dalam kalangan pelajar peringkat menengah rendah di SMKA Naim Lilbanat.

Abstract.Introduction. Every teaching-learning process aims toward a certain product, which is based on certain objectives and purposes that are to result in the student learning a specific subject matter. This product is called academic performance. Performance has been defined and categorized by different authors. Most research has analyzed performance based on a single global qualification. This tendency to reduce the outcome of learning to a single grade has become one of the main criticisms of research on academic performance. This variable has taken on greater importance in educational research in recent decades, with many variables being studied for their influence on the academic performance of university students. Some of these variables are approaches to learning, self-regulated learning, student attitudes, coping strategies and so on. Method. A total of 1101 students participated in the study (university and candidate students). The analyses made to meet the proposed objectives and test hypotheses were: Association analysis through Pearson bivariate correlations (Association objectives and hypotheses); linear regression analysis (Regression objectives and hypotheses); Cluster analysis, ANOVAS and MANOVAS, with Scheffé post hoc, and effect size estimates (Inferential objectives and hypotheses). Results. A significant associative relationship appeared between self-regulation and satisfaction with learning and performance. In complementary fashion, the level of personal self-regulation had a significant main effect on a high level of satisfaction with learning, specifically in the satisfaction with learning factor and in thoughtful learning, and by high levels of procedural and attitudinal performance. Discussion and Conclusions. The importance of personal self-regulation that determines the degree of cognitive self-regulation during the process of university learning; the relationship between personal self-regulation and the type and quantity of satisfaction with learning, and academic performance.Palabras Clave: Personal self-regulation, satisfaction with learning, academic performance, teaching-learning process

IntroductionA number of studies have noted a high level of symptoms of depression and anxiety in mothers bringing up children with burn injury. The emergence of such symptoms show high importance of child's disease situation to mother and suggests the formation of a special personal meaning of child's illness for mother (conflict or barrier). The aim of this study is to describe specific patterns of mothers responding on the situation of the child burn injuries : special cognitive emotion regulation strategies and personal meaning of illness.MethodsClinical interview to assess personal meaning of illness, State Trait Anxiety Inventor, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire.ParticipantsTwenty-eight mothers (aged between 22 to 43 years), children received burn 5-7 days ago ; 2 mothers (aged between 24 to 37 years), children had burns over a year ago.ResultsWe found a strong correlation between using certain strategies of cognitive emotion regulation and different personal meaning of child's illness : mothers with a conflict meaning characterized by using of « Rumination » and « Self-Blame » strategies ; mothers with barrier meaning – « Refocus on planning ». This connection is maintained throughout the child's illness and does not depend on medical specialties. A number of strategies of cognitive emotion regulation are used by all mothers at different stages of the child's illness, regardless of the mother's personal meaning of illness : immediately after injury the most popular strategies are “Catastrophizing” and « Self-Blame » ; in the long-term rehabilitation – « Putting into perspective » is the most common one.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Cultivation of mindfulness, the nonjudgmental awareness of experiences in the present moment, produces beneficial effects on well-being and ameliorates psychiatric and stress-related symptoms. Mindfulness meditation has therefore increasingly been incorporated into psychotherapeutic interventions. Although the number of publications in the field has sharply increased over the last two decades, there is a paucity of theoretical reviews that integrate the existing literature into a comprehensive theoretical framework. In this article, we explore several components through which mindfulness meditation exerts its effects: (a) attention regulation, (b) body awareness, (c) emotion regulation (including reappraisal and exposure, extinction, and reconsolidation), and (d) change in perspective on the self. Recent empirical research, including practitioners’ self-reports and experimental data, provides evidence supporting these mechanisms. Functional and structural neuroimaging studies have begun to explore the neuroscientific processes underlying these components. Evidence suggests that mindfulness practice is associated with neuroplastic changes in the anterior cingulate cortex, insula, temporo-parietal junction, fronto-limbic network, and default mode network structures. The authors suggest that the mechanisms described here work synergistically, establishing a process of enhanced self-regulation. Differentiating between these components seems useful to guide future basic research and to specifically target areas of development in the treatment of psychological disorders.

Research on the effects of cultural diversity on individual team member performance has typically assumed a linear relationship, but has yielded mixed findings. In the study, we address these inconsistencies by hypothesizing an optimal (mid-range) level of diversity that maximizes performance. Given the potential for negative emotions to arise within a diverse team, we also hypothesize that team members who employ emotional self-regulation strategies will demonstrate stronger performance. We adopt an individual-level perspective, assessing diversity as the cultural dissimilarity between each individual and their teammates. Using a sample of 103 postgraduate students (23 teams with 3–6 participants in each), we found evidence of a curvilinear relationship between cultural dissimilarity and individual team member performance. Contrary to our expectations, we found that individual performance is greatest at very low and very high levels of dissimilarity. In terms of emotional regulation strategies, we found that cognitive reappraisal was associated with higher performance, but there was no evidence for the effects of expressive suppression. Together, the present findings challenge the assumption that the diversity-performance relationship is linear. Our findings also indicate individual performance in culturally diverse teams is influenced by individuals’ use of cognitive reappraisal to regulate negative emotions.

The present study aims to investigate the emotional regulation strategies and their relation to the problem-solving ability among the gifted intermediate and secondary students in Jeddah. It adopted the questionnaire of emotional regulation strategies (Saloum, 2015) and the personal problem-solving inventory (Heppner and Peterson, 1982). Results revealed the high level of the emotional regulation strategies among the gifted students. While "positive focus" was ranked first, "distraction" was ranked last. Results also revealed the high level of the problem-solving ability among the participants. While "personal discipline" was ranked first, "avoidance" was ranked last. Furthermore, the emotional regulation strategies were not correlated to the problem-solving ability. Although there were differences in the emotional regulation strategies due to educational stage favoring the secondary stage, there were no differences in the problem-solving ability. The study recommended activating the role of the educational institutions by increasing the attention to the emotional regulation strategies in the different stages and holding workshops and symposia to the students at schools and universities to improve their emotional regulation and problem-solving ability.

This work presents a theoretical and integrative review about parental self-regulation and emotional regulation processes, and its connections with parental coping and temperament. Parents' adaptation requires the ability to regulate their own behavior in reaction to their perception and interpretation of the child's behavior. These self-regulation processes are often intertwined with intense emotions that need to be regulated. Parenting attitudes and behaviors cannot be fully understood without considering the parents' emotional dysregulation and their emotional regulation strategies. However, only few studies focus the effects of parents' emotional regulation strategies on the parenting behavior. Experiential avoidance and overprotection are discussed as extreme cases of parental emotional regulation strategies that may have particularly detrimental effects in childrearing. The authors propose that, although the main parenting interventions already use a self-regulation approach, specific training in adaptive emotional regulation strategies should be included in these programs.

Socio-psychological adaptation of the employee is an important condition for the success of professional activities, determining the effectiveness and reliability of the subject in performing operational tasks. The scientific significance of the problem is actualized in the professions of social orientation and requires not only physiological adaptations, but analysis of prospects predict the dynamics of adaptation, a constructive interaction and cooperation in socio-professional environment. Current empirical studies show that law enforcement problems of professional adaptation involve a lot of social regulatory factors, value and moral content. In the presented results of empirical research the peculiarities of socio-psychological adaptation of employees of internal Affairs bodies with different level of personal adaptive capacity are discussed. Statistical analysis of indicators of two groups of adapted and unadapted staff allowed us to establish reliably significant differences in the adaptation on physical, psychological and social levels. It was revealed that employees with low levels of adaptive capacity are different in asthenic reactions, neuropsychological instability, emotional discomfort, severity of negative emotional state. The overall profile of socio-psychological adaptation is characterized by low level of behavioral self-regulation and communicative potential difficulties in establishing a constructive relationship, deconditioning disorders. It was found that employees with a high level of personal adaptive capacity are different in activity and performance, neuro-psychological stability, the capacity for behavioral self-control, communicative abilities and moral normativity. Indicators of socio-psychological adaptation demonstrate the ability to adequate perception of social norms, the availability of professional motives in the activities, alignment of personal interests with the interests of the service activities, goodwill in the relationship, cooperation and responsibility.

Deficit in the management of time continues to be an important difficulty students are faced with. The present work aimed to test the hypothesis that self-regulation is the major predictor of academic performance and that this effect can be mediated both by the student’s emotional regulation and his propensity for procrastination. Participants were 450 university students who were administered MPP and AIP. The procedures involved the administration of instruments and the collection of average exam grades as a measure of academic performance. The effect of a specific component of self-regulation on academic performance, namely action orientation, was significant, while procrastination showed a limiting effect on the performative quality of the student. The model confirmed the mediation role of emotional balance on the effect that action orientation exerts on procrastination, and the mediation of procrastination in the relationship between action orientation and Academic Performance. Results of the study suggest focusing on student support and on prevention of procrastinating behavior through programs that enhance first of all student’s proactive attitude, planning skills, self-monitoring and effective/efficient time management, and secondly, emotional awareness and regulation of emotional response in situations of stress and performance anxiety.
