This paper conducted a bibliometric analysis based on 4687 papers on supplier management from 1997 to 2017. Through a comparative analysis of the four stages using Bibexcel and Ucinet6 software, this paper explores the evolution of supplier management from the theme and cluster perspectives. The results show that supplier management research has made breakthroughs in both breadth and depth. Representative research themes, such as “sustainable supply chain”, “corporate social responsibility”, “knowledge management”, etc., have gradually penetrated into the field of supplier management. Research related to “supplier selection” and “supplier relations” have always been of the highest strategic importance, and themes in “supplier relations” cluster such as “trust” and “commitment” have gradually attracted more and more researchers’ attention. The “inventory” cluster has also been a research focus, and the structural stability and maturity of the cluster have gradually improved. The “innovation” cluster is a relatively “open” cluster, and its impact on the entire research filed of supplier management has been gradually increasing. More importantly, the “sustainability” cluster is an evolving cluster, research themes related to “sustainability”, such as “green supply chain”, “sustainable supply chain” and “green supplier selection”, will play an increasingly important role in the field of supplier management.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to design and optimize economic and environmental dimensions in a sustainable supply chain (SSC) network. This paper developed a mixed-integer linear programing (MILP) model to incorporate economical and environmental data for multi-objective optimization of the SSC network. Design/methodology/approach The overall objective of the present study is to use high-quality raw materials, at the same time the lowest amount of pollution emission and the highest profitability is achieved. The model in the problem is solved using two algorithms, namely, multi-objective genetic and multi-objective particle swarm. In this research, to integrate sustainable supplier selection and optimization of sustainability performance indicators in supply chain network design considering minimization of cost and time and maximization of sustainability indexes of the system. Findings The differences found between the genetic algorithms (GAs) and the MILP approaches can be explained by handling the constraints and their various logics. The solutions are contrasted with the original crisp model based on either MILP or GA, offering more robustness to the proposed approach. Practical implications The model is applied to Mega Motor company to optimize the sustainability performance of the supply chain i.e. economic (cost), social (time) and environmental (pollution of raw material). The research method has two approaches, namely, applied and mathematical modeling. Originality/value There is limited research designing and optimizing the SSC network. This study is among the first to integrate sustainable supplier selection and optimization of sustainability performance indicators in supply chain network design considering minimization of cost and time and maximization of sustainability indexes of the system.

To analyse the research progress and frontier dynamics of green supply chain management, this paper uses Web of Science’s citation database to search and filter related documents from 2007–2018. A total of 1391 articles were obtained. On this basis, a bibliometric analysis method was utilized to study the literature characteristics and research hotspots of green supply chain management research. Our results show the following: (1) The current amount of published literature on the field of green supply chain management is exponentially increasing. Research on green supply chain management tended to develop after 2013. (2) The current research on green supply chain management has not formed a core author group and among the literatures on green supply chain management, only a few authors reported some influential literatures. (3) It can be seen from the comprehensive average citation frequency and the number of publications that Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Southern Denmark and others have a strong research capability and a large field influence in the field of green supply chain management research. (4) There are 13 core journals publishing the research of green supply chain management, covering 10 fields including engineering, mathematics and social issues. (5) At present, the research hotspots of green supply chain management mainly include the following: Green production and innovation, green supply chain management theory and method, and sustainable supply chain environment and performance. Finally, this paper analyses the shortcomings of previous research and proposes a future direction for research development.

PurposeThe volume of data being generated by various sectors in recent years has increased exponentially. Consequently, professionals struggle to process essential data in the current competitive world. The purpose of the study is to explore and provide insights into the Big Data Analytics (BDA) studies in different sectors.Design/methodology/approachThis study performs a systematic literature review (SLR) with bibliometric analysis of BDA adoption (BDAA) in the supply chain and its applications in various sectors from 2014 to 2018. This paper focuses on BDAA studies have been carried out across different countries and sectors. Also, the paper explores different tools and techniques used in BDAA studies.FindingsThe benefits of adopting BDA, coupled with a lack of adequate research in the field, have motivated this study. This literature review categorizes paper into seven main areas and found that most of the studies were carried out in manufacturing and service.Practical implicationsThis research insight and observations can provide practitioners and academia with guidance on implementing BDA in different sustainable supply chain sectors. The article indicates a few remarkable gaps in the future direction and trends regarding the integration of BDA and sustainable supply chain development.Originality/valueThe study derives a new categorization of BDA, which investigates how data is generated, organized, captured, interpreted and evaluated to give valuable insights to manage the sustainable supply chain.

Being tied with sustainability and due to the emergence of various environmental threats, closed loop supply chain (CLSC) has received huge attention recently. Dealing with both forward and reverse chain simultaneously, closed loop supply chain plays the key role as an enabler for sustainability. In this paper the gradual evolution of supply chain, the concept of sustainability, sustainable supply chain, incentives and different dimensions of sustainability and closed loop supply chain, issue and challenges such as recovery options, product acquisition, uncertainty, supplier selection, etchave been discussed.

Supplier selection is a wide research area which has been explored conceptually and empirically. The criteria and decision-making methods of supplier selection have been investigated by a series of surveys dating back to the 1960s, and both of these issues are the focus of this study. Sustainable supply chain management is a forward-thinking idea which considers the environmental effects and the efficiency of resource utilization in the whole supply chain. Thus, this part will review the supplier selection literature with special focus on the background of sustainable supply chain. And then based on the literature review, the research gaps will be conducted for more in depth research in this study.
