With the rapid development of the internet, many WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) online recyclers have emerged and developed. They improve recycling efficiency significantly and bring hope for sustainable development. Unfortunately, few works in the literature are concerned about it, with many questions still unanswered. The WEEE online recyclers always face a challenge with regard to how to strategically design their reselling channel structure in fact. In this paper, we examined this challenge by two decision models: agency and self-run. We derived the performance of the self-run model and agency model by backward induction and then examined the desirability from different stakeholders’ perspective. The results suggested that WEEE online recyclers prefer the self-run model to the agency model when the unit recycling cost is low and a conflict exists between the WEEE online recycler and e-retailer for the resale channel preference. Interestingly, the manufacturer shows consistent resale channel preference with the WEEE online recycler when the unit recycling cost is low. Our further analysis revealed that all players can agree on the agency model in a certain case. In addition, we found that the consumer surplus and the recovery ratio in the self-run model are always better than that in the agency model. Our work provides insight into the promotion of the WEEE online recycling industry and into the resale channel selection for online recyclers. The study also generates managerial insights for environmental sustainability.

Abstract Although online business has been growing for some time, third-party e-platforms and their impact on e-channels are an under-explored area in the literature on dual-channel supply chains. Considering different combinations of open and self-support e-platform, this paper develops dynamic game models in four dual-channel e-retail structures to study pricing strategies and channel preference for manufacturers. The results provide interesting insights. First, a manufacturer’s optimal prices vary in different e-channels. Second, e-retail prices on the self-support e-platform and open e-platform are both affected by the e-platform’s service quality and commission fee. Regardless of the channel structure, a better service quality by one e-platform leads to an increase in its own e-retail prices and forces the competing e-platform to either improve its service quality or take a lower price. Lastly and more importantly, we compare the manufacturer’s pricing strategies and performances in different dual-channel e-retail structures and identify its preferences. Specifically, if the commission fee is dynamic, we find that the manufacturer always prefers to use two e-channels provided by different e-platforms, and at least one of the e-channels is the self-support model, although it is a sub-optimal strategy.

The rapid development of e-commerce technologies has encouraged collection centers to adopt online recycling channels in addition to their existing traditional (offline) recycling channels, such the idea of coexisting traditional and online recycling channels evolved a new concept of a dual-channel reverse supply chain (DRSC). The adoption of DRSC will make the system lose stability and fall into the trap of complexity. Further the consumer-related factors, such as consumer preference, service level, have also severely affected the system efficiency of DRSC. Therefore, it is necessary to help DRSCs to design their networks for maintaining competitiveness and profitability. This paper focuses on the issues of quantitative modelling for the network design of a general multi-echelon, dual-objective DRSC system. By incorporating consumer preference for the online recycling channel into the system, we investigate a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model to design the DRSC network with uncertainty and the model is solved using the ε-constraint method to derive optimal Pareto solutions. Numerical results show that there exist positive correlations between consumer preference and total collective quantity, online recycling price and the system profits. The proposed model and solution method could assist recyclers in pricing and service decisions to achieve a balance solution for economic and environmental sustainability.

An experiment tested whether the belief that one is better than others on performance aspects of the self moderates social loafing, the tendency for individuals to expend less effort when working collectively than when working individually. French students performed an easy task either coactively or collectively. They were then asked to rate how they individuate themselves from others on personal abilities within various domains of social life. The loafing effect was especially strong in participants who perceived themselves as better than others, suggesting that self-beliefs related to one's feeling of uniqueness is a significant component of social loafing. This finding is discussed from the perspective of Karau and Williams' (1993) Collective Effort Model.

We tested the prediction, derived from the hubris hypothesis, that bragging might serve as a verbal provocation and thus enhance aggression. Experiments 1 and 2 were vignette studies where participants could express hypothetical aggression; Experiment 3 was an actual decision task where participants could make aggressive and/or prosocial choices. Observers disliked an explicit braggart (who claimed to be “better than others”) or a competence braggart as compared with an implicit braggart (who claimed to be “good”) or a warmth braggart, respectively. Showing that explicit and competence bragging function as verbal provocations, observers responded more aggressively to the explicit and competence braggart than to the implicit and warmth braggart, respectively. They did so because they inferred that an explicit and a competence braggart viewed other people and them negatively, and therefore disliked the braggart. Rather than praising the self, braggarts are sometimes viewed as insulting others.

Along with the rapid development of electric power industry in China, the pollutant discharge limits are getting more strict, and WFGD (wet flue gas desulfurization) technology and its equipment have been greatly developed and extensively applied, in which the gas-gas heater (GGH) is adopted at lots of the power stations. The corrosion is a very important issue in GGH, and it is experimentally studied in this paper. Through experiment of polarization curves and the control variable method, a comparative analysis of the corrosion resistance between the commonly used materials of the GGH is made. The results have shown that the corrosion resistance with the heat transfer surface in GGH will decrease with the temperature increasing, but the enamel steel’s corrosion resistance and stability is strikingly better than that of others, and the increasing volume of corrosion resistance by plating enamel is remarkable.

Spectrum availability is becoming scarce due to the rise of number of users and rapid development in wireless environment. Cognitive radio (CR) is an intelligent radio system which uses its in-built technology to use the vacant spectrum holes for the use of another service provider. In this paper, genetic algorithm (GA) is used for the best possible space allocation to cognitive radio in the spectrum available. For spectrum reuse, two criteria have to be fulfilled - 1) probability of detection has to be maximized, and 2) probability of false alarm should be minimized. It is found that with the help of genetic algorithm the optimized result is better than without using genetic algorithm. It is necessary that the secondary user should vacate the spectrum in use when licensed users are demanding and detecting the primary users accurately by the cognitive radio. Here, bit error rate (BER) is minimized for better spectrum sensing purpose using GA.

In this work, we numerically studied the steady swimming of a pufferfish driven by the undulating motion of its dorsal, anal and caudal fins. The simulations are based on experimentally measured kinematics. To model the self-propelled fish swimming, a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool was coupled with a Multi-Body-Dynamics (MBD) technique. It is widely accepted that deformable/flexible or undulating fins are better than rigid fins in terms of propulsion efficiency. To elucidate the underlying mechanism, we established an undulating fins model based on the kinematics of live fish, and conducted a simulation under the same operating conditions as rigid fins. The results presented here agree with this view by showing that the contribution of undulating fins to propulsion efficiency is significantly larger than that of rigid fins.

Abstract. Surface water system is an important part of global ecosystem, and the changes in surface water may lead to disasters, such as drought, waterlog, and water-borne diseases. The rapid development of remote sensing technology has supplied better strategies for water bodies extraction and further monitoring. In this study, AdaBoost and Random Forest (RF), two typical algorithms in integrated learning, were applied to extract water bodies in Chaozhou area (mainly located in Guangzhou Province, China) based on GF-1 data, and the Decision Tree (DT) was used for comparative tests to comprehensively evaluate the performance of classification algorithms listed above for surface water body extraction. The results showed that: (1) Compared with visual interpretation, AdaBoost performed better than RF in the extraction of several typical water bodies, such as rivers, lakes and ponds Moreover, the water extraction results of the strong classifiers using AdaBoost or RF were better than the weak basic classifiers. (2) For the quantitative accuracy statistics, the overall accuracy (96.5%) and kappa coefficient (93%) using AdaBoost exceeded those using RF (5.3% and 10.6%), respectively. The classification time of AdaBoost increased by 403 seconds and 918 seconds relative to RF and DT methods. However, in terms of visual interpretation, quantitative statistical accuracy and classification time, AdaBoost algorithm was more suitable for the water body extraction. (3) For the sample proportion comparison experiment of AdaBoost, four sampling proportions (0.1%, 0.2%, 1% and 2%) were chosen and 0.1% sampling proportion reached the optimum classification accuracy (93.9%) and kappa coefficient (87.8%).

Welding worker was not the easy task because it has a very high physical risk and the process requires special skills and equipment to prevent accident exposed. This devotional activity is carried out in the welding industry at Jl. Mahkamah with two partners, namely CV. M. Nauli and CV. Cahaya. The aim of training activity made the worker able to analyze the hazards in the workplace so that it will be more careful in their work. The result show that the training could develop the worker to be aware about safety and health work patterns. In order to support the work in accordance with occupational safety and health standards, workers are also given pocket books that contain safety and health working methods and also given the self-protection of welding like welding clothes, welding gloves, welding mask, welding glasses and masks. Based on the evaluation of activities, it show that the worker has develop and always using the self protector in their work evenly. It build the good collaboration between them and they are could arrage the rest time with ergonomics relaxation in 5-10 minutes. The workshop station looks better than before and the workshop doing good house keeping before and after their work.
