Total quality management (TQM) is a lean manufacturing tool that focuses on ensuring the production of goods that meet design specifications and give customer satisfaction, both attractive benefits highly appreciated by managers. However, there are several factors involved in the success of TQM programs, many of which are cultural aspects associated with human resources (HR). This article presents a structural equation model that integrates three latent variables related to internal HR: “managerial commitment,” “employee integration,” and “training and education,” which are linked to the operational benefits of a manufacturing system. The variables are connected through six hypotheses that have been validated with information obtained from 398 responses of a questionnaire applied to manufacturing industry professionals. In addition, a sensitivity analysis was carried out to describe the probabilities of occurrence for the variables at low and high levels. The hypotheses were statistically validated with the partial least squared technique, where the results showed that human factors play an essential role in the success of TQM, since the direct, indirect, and total effects of managerial commitment, employee integration and training, and education processes on the benefits obtained from the implementation of TQM were statistically significant at 95% confidence.

The present research proposes a structural equation model to integrate four latent variables: managerial commitment, preventive maintenance, total productive maintenance, and productivity benefits. In addition, these variables are related through six research hypotheses that are validated using collected data from 368 surveys administered in the Mexican manufacturing industry. Consequently, the model is evaluated using partial least squares. The results show that managerial commitment is critical to achieve productivity benefits, while preventive maintenance is indispensable to total preventive maintenance. These results may encourage company managers to focus on managerial commitment and implement preventive maintenance programs to guarantee the success of total productive maintenance.

A successful Just in Time (JIT) implementation is based on human resources integration (managers, operators and suppliers) and other lean manufacturing techniques applied in the production process. However, the relationship between these variables is not easily quantified. This paper reports a structural equation model that integrates variables associated with JIT implementation: management commitment, human resources integration, suppliers and production tools and technique, which affect the benefits gained, and are integrated into nine hypotheses or relationships among then. The model is evaluated with information from 352 responses to a questionnaire applied to manufacturing industry, and partial least squares technique is used to evaluate it. The direct effects, sum of indirect effects, and total effects are quantified, and a sensitivity analysis based on conditional probabilities is reported to know scenarios associated with low and high levels in variables’ execution and how they impact the benefits obtained. Findings indicate that managerial commitment is the most important variable in the JIT implementation process, since managers are the ones that determine the relationships with suppliers, integrate human resources, and approve the lean manufacturing techniques and tools that support the JIT.

The purpose of this study was to discover the crucial issues between TQM and the performance of Malaysian SMEs. This paper also reviewed the need of the other variable in the relationship between TQM and Malaysian SME’s performance; namely innovation. This paper then presents the empirical results carried out on the Malaysian SMEs covering the manufacturing industry. The measurement scale in this study was tested and found to be reliable and valid to examine the research model. The 124 samples obtained were assessed using Smart PLS in order to examine the structural equation model. Empirical findings in this study prove that TQM had an insignificant impact on innovation and performance. Moreover, innovation mediates the relationship between TQM and performance of SMEs in Malaysia. This study provides new evidence in the important area of TQM and innovation of Malaysian SMEs. The study focuses on the analysis of the direct effect of Lean Manufacturing (LM) practices on operational performance in manufacturing industry. A model for evaluating the effect of LM is developed taking into consideration as a fundamental variable that affects the causal relationship between LM practices and operational performance. A structural equation model was proposed and investigated across the manufacturing industry in India. A structured survey questionnaire was used to collect empirical data from 400 Indian companies. A total of 203 usable responses were obtained giving a response rate of 53%. The data was analyzed using SPSS- AMOS software. The results revealed that LM practices directly and positively affected operational performance. The results indicated that the structural equation model remained invariant across the Industry. The study provides further evidence to managers and practitioner on the effect of LM practices on operational performance in developing countries like India.

Nowadays, green supplier selection (GSS) is one of the most important activities for companies. Therefore, this research aims to demonstrate the relationship that exists between GSS and the marketing benefits of companies. The chapter proposes a structural equation model that integrates three latent variables. The two independent latent variables concern preproduction green attributes and process green attributes, and they are associated with a dependent latent variable: marketing indexes. Thus, three hypotheses are proposed to relate these latent variables. To validate such hypotheses, a survey is administered to 253 middle and senior managers from the manufacturing industry of Ciudad Juárez. Similarly, a descriptive analysis of the sample and the items is carried out. Results show direct and positive effects among the analyzed variables. However, the highest impact is caused by preproduction green attributes over production process green attributes.

Nowadays, Lean Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and Sustainability are important concerns for the companies and in a general way for the society, principally, the influence of the two production philosophies, Lean Manufacturing and Industry 4.0, in the three main pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social. According to the literature review done in this work, these relations are not well known and are dispersed by different sustainability’s criteria. To address this gap, this research proposes a structural equation model, with six hypotheses, to quantitatively measure the effects of Lean Manufacturing and Industry 4.0, in Sustainability. To statistically validate such hypotheses, we collected 252 valid questionnaires from industrial companies of Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain). Results show that: (1) it is not conclusive that Lean Manufacturing is correlated with any of the sustainability pillars; and (2) Industry 4.0 shows a strong correlation with the three sustainability pillars. These results can contribute as an important decision support for the industrial companies and its stakeholders, even because not all the results are in line with other opinions and studies.

Importance and impact of the systems related to Agribusiness and Agri-food, are increasing around the world and demand a paramount attention. Collaboration in the inventory management is an integral part of the supply chain management, related to proactive integration among the chain actors facilitating production and supply, in especial in the agroindustrial sector of the Departamento de Antioquia, Colombia. This research establishes the main relationships between latent variables as collaboration, technology, models, optimization and inventory management, based on a literature review and applying a Structural Equation Model to a survey data of a sample of agribusiness companies. The results show that Available Technologies associated with Big Data, generates improvement of Collaboration Strategies, improving also Forecasting and Optimization; besides, Inventory Planning and Collaboration are related to Available Technologies associated with Big Data. A Poisson regression model and a Structural Equation Model estimations detect that the increasing strategies of technologies and Big Data are favorable to apply collaboration in the supply chain management, increasing possibilities to the enterprise competitiveness.

Abstract- The research objectives were to determine: 1) The description of performance, organizational culture, education and training, competence and work motivation of Indonesian National Police members at the Traffic Directorate of East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police; 2) The influence of organizational culture, education and training, competence and work motivation on the performance of Police members at the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Traffic Directorate. The study was conducted on all members of the East Nusa Tenggara Police Traffic Directorate with 145 respondents. The data collected were analyzed descriptively based on the results of processed data using the method of Structural Equation Model. The results of descriptive analysis showed that the achievement of the indicators for each variable is as follows: Performance = 67.68 (Good Enough), Organizational Culture = 68.84 (Good), Competence = 67.93 (Good Enough), Education and Training = 67.45 (Good Enough), and Work Motivation = 68.55 (Good). Furthermore, the results of SEM analysis showed that Organizational Culture, Education and Training, Competence and Work Motivation had a positive and significant effect on the Performance of the investigated Police Members. This research is still limited to the 4 variables used so that testing is needed on other variables such as; leadership style, compensation, work atmosphere, work facilities and others with job satisfaction as an intervening variable. This study aims to prove the role of Total Quality Management (TQM) and organizational commitment in supporting the achievement of company operational performance. The population was all Convection SMEs in the city of Banda Aceh, consisted of 294 Convection SMEs. The sample was selected using a proportional sampling technique where sampling considers elements or categories in the study population. The sample taken was 15% of the population. One respondent represented one unit of SMEs, so the sample has amounted to 169 respondents. Data was collected using questionnaires. The model was analyzed with the Structural Equation Model Analysis. The result showed an influence between TQM on Organizational Commitment, TQM on Company Operational Performance, and Organizational Commitment on Company Operational Performance. This study also found that organizational commitment can act as a partial mediator to strengthen the effect of TQM on Company operational performance. The interesting issue in this study lies in the discussion of the organizational commitment to solving the inconsistency problems in the quality of convection production in SMEs. Furthermore, the other researchers can provide more concepts and variables to enrich this research model, like other mediators for TQM to achieve performance or even the commitment that can strengthen the TQM and performance. The model also can be a reference for practitioners to set their strategy in further, to go more productive.
