This study analyzes apartment building configurations in waterfront residential areas relative to water flow direction and assesses the waterfront impact on apartment construction planning. It surveyed 197 apartment buildings around Yangjaecheon, Gulpocheon, and Anyangcheon, three branches of the Han River, a major South Korean river, to ascertain the correlation between stream flows and apartment building configurations. The apartments were classified into four spatial-configuration categories relative to the adjacent stream’s flow axis—perpendicular, parallel, diagonal, and other—and three orientation categories—east- and/or west-facing, south-facing, and other. South-facing apartments were predominant around west- and north-flowing streams. The proportion of east- and/or west-facing apartments built and the percentage of south-facing apartments were relatively low, indicating that apartment building layouts are more diverse around north-flowing streams than around west-flowing streams. A t-test analysis of east- and south-facing apartments’ proportions relative to stream flow direction was statistically significant, and there were relatively higher percentages of east- and west-facing apartments near north-flowing streams than west-flowing ones. This suggests that the relationship with rivers is still important in urban housing in South Korea, and the importance of landscapes over the river is of increasing significance for planning urban settlements.

The paper presents the results of analysis of electrical measurements performed in the space experiment "Impulse (stage 1)" on the Service module of the ISS RS. This experiment investigated the effects of the interaction of the charged component of the ionosphere to the surface of large KA, which is the ISS. This paper analyses the measurement of quasi-stationary electric field and current leakage, was, respectively, sensors of the vibration type and flat probes from the Complex control electrophysical parameters (CCEP), developed by SPJ MT. To study the dependence of measurements from the ionosphere flow direction to the surface of the ISS RS was installed two sets of sensors with the direction of the angle of "visibility" in the Nadir (towards the Earth) and to "satellite footprint " (against the velocity vector of the ISS). Carried out analysis of common regularities measurements depending on the sun-shadow environment on orbit ISS motions and depending on current geophysical dynamics of the ionosphere. Massive the measurements including more than 170 telemetric sessions were analyzed. More than 11000 hours of measurements current of leakage (or runoff current) and measurements of quasi-stationary electric field with discretization 1s and UT binding to each point were analysed. The data measurements, geophysical and orbital data were collected in an electronic album. It is shown that experimental data correlate with the crossing time of the ISS boundaries known geophysical structures: the noon Meridian, the Main ionospheric failure (MIF), the boundaries diffuse intrusion (BDI), the Equatorial Geomagnetic anomaly (EA). In this regard, despite the specificity of the ISS (the spacecraft super big sizes, the most complex spatial configuration) similar measurements, nevertheless, are quite suitable for monitoring researches of some features of an ionosphere at the level of F2 layer with a temporary scale from 1s and can be used for more detailed study of the geophysical structures and related effects in the ionosphere. In addition, the results obtained can be used for the analysis of disturbances of electromagnetic conditions near the surface of the ISS RS, for monitoring potential and currents of leakage on the surface of the ISS. Since the 1970s, the South Korean government has been redeveloping blighted residential environments and adopting large-scale redevelopment policies to solve urban housing-related problems. However, it is difficult to designate areas for redevelopment and identify areas where redevelopment is currently unfeasible. This study establishes a framework to support decision-making in a selection of housing renewal districts. The proposed Residential Environment Maintenance Index (REMI) overcomes the limitations of existing indicators, which are often biased toward physical requirements. Using this, we rationalize the designation of maintenance areas by considering both physical and social requirements and outline the renewal district designation procedure. To derive REMI, we used an analytic hierarchy process analysis and estimated the index’s reliability by clarifying the relative importance and priority of the indicators based on surveys of 300 subject matter experts. We analyzed various simulations by applying REMI at sites where maintenance is currently planned or discharged in Seoul. These reveal that the total number of urban renewal projects can be adjusted by adjusting the number of renewal district designations through the proposed REMI according to the economic situation. The results have implications for understanding REMI’s possible application and flexible management at the administrative level to pursue long-term sustainable development.

This research examines the typological analysis of housing development in the peri-urban settlements of Lagos State, Nigeria. Case study methodology was adopted, using random sampling to select housing developments under different housing initiatives, in purposely selected peri-urban settlements in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State. Primary data collection was from survey questionnaires, direct observations and in-depth interviews administered to household heads in the case study area. Data analysis was done using descriptive statics to generate frequencies, percentages, cross tabulations of the variables. Findings showed different housing typologies under three categories: owner occupied, part rental and full rental housing. Housing typologies in the study area were influenced by different housing initiatives, and the socio-economic attributes of the residents revealed a heterogeneous mix of the population in terms of culture, literacy level and household size. Based on the research findings it is recommended that the residents' socio-demography should be put into consideration in building typology designs, to enhance effective user performance in peri-urban housing development under diverse housing development schemes in Lagos State. Since the 1940s, the city centre of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar has suffered from several flooding episodes from the several tributaries of ca n’Amer creek. Five lives lost and a significant impact on the population were the result of the most relevant flood in the series that occurred in 2018. In this paper, an analysis of the historical relationship of the village with floods, the answer provided by the administration to those floods, and the geographic setting and the anthropic actions on the land are considered. Using the data collected by direct observation, witnesses, and graphs and fieldwork, a thorough investigation of the volume, flow, direction and levels of water has been developed. This translates into an exhaustive mapping of the event, discriminating the hydraulic behaviour in each of the affected roads and showing the sequential development of the flood. Flooding is a combination of severe stream flows, avulsion processes and angular sections that combine with infraestructures that interfere with the flow direction and prevent its reintegration into the main channel and where the streets become active channels.

Abstract The process of modernization of spatial planning principles focused on the conservation of resources in solving problems related to the protection of natural areas is impossible without the effective use of natural framework of the area under study through its zoning. Natural framework is formed on the basis of hydrographic system taking into account the conditions of geomorphology and topography of the territory in the form of an integral structure of green spaces. The growing degree of urbanization of urban settlements, increase in industrial and residential areas, and growing level of motorization play a major role in changing the ecology of the city, destruction of the existing natural framework and increasing recreational load on the urban landscape.
