Since the early days of the emerging research format of Real-world Labs (RwLs), higher education plays a vital role in them. Examples have been presented on teaching activities in RwLs, but the reasons for and evidence of their inclusion stays limited. To start a systematic discussion on the embedding of higher education in RwLs, this paper presents the case of six Transdisciplinary Project Courses carried out in the RwL “District Future—Urban Lab” in Karlsruhe/Germany. The paper presents the discourses on the role of learning in RwLs and compares it to those on Transition Labs and Urban Living Labs. To offer a new approach to address this aspect, the paper introduces a social practice perspective to map out the interrelations between an RwL and higher education therein. The detailed analysis of the processes is used to identify the potential of the RwL to support learning. It shows that all dimensions of social practice can be identified in the interplay between Real-world Lab and Transdisciplinary Project Courses, even though to a very different degree and in different phases. The text closes with lessons learned for teaching project courses in RwLs and similar labs.

Quality assurance and accreditation are the most pronounced words in the education sector. Quality culture involves all stakeholders in the process. Students who are the major stakeholders play a vital role in the QA process of an institution. The role of students in QA process in Oman context has been covered by conducting interviews from both students and staff members. The current study has been conducted on all the 13 branches of University of Technology and Applied Sciences. An online interview schedule was arranged with five students and two staff members from each branch. The list of students and staff was collected from the quality assurance department of UTAS branches. The results of the study showed that students are actively participating in various programs. The main hindrances to student involvement are low awareness about QA processes, time constraints, and low student representation towards QA processes. The implication of this research is important for HEIs, OAAA, academic researchers, and higher education stakeholders.

The Gene-pool Optimal Mixing Evolutionary Algorithm (GOMEA) is a model-based EA framework that has been shown to perform well in several domains, including Genetic Programming (GP). Differently from traditional EAs where variation acts blindly, GOMEA learns a model of interdependencies within the genotype, that is, the linkage, to estimate what patterns to propagate. In this article, we study the role of Linkage Learning (LL) performed by GOMEA in Symbolic Regression (SR). We show that the non-uniformity in the distribution of the genotype in GP populations negatively biases LL, and propose a method to correct for this. We also propose approaches to improve LL when ephemeral random constants are used. Furthermore, we adapt a scheme of interleaving runs to alleviate the burden of tuning the population size, a crucial parameter for LL, to SR. We run experiments on 10 real-world datasets, enforcing a strict limitation on solution size, to enable interpretability. We find that the new LL method outperforms the standard one, and that GOMEA outperforms both traditional and semantic GP. We also find that the small solutions evolved by GOMEA are competitive with tuned decision trees, making GOMEA a promising new approach to SR.

This study deals with the role of KH. Saifuddin Zuhri as Minister of Religion using biographical approach by describing his passion in improving the quality of Islamic education, particularly the Islamic university. He plays a vital role in the development of Islamic universities, namely the State Islamic Institute (IAIN). IAIN is a center for high-level teaching and education activities for Muslim youth. During a period of leadership of KH Saifuddin Zuhri at the Ministry of Religious affair, he succeeded in inaugurating the IAIN at the provincial level by naming the universities according to figures from the region and 14 IAIN branches at the district level. / city. To support the improvement of the quality of teaching staff and infrastructure for higher education, K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri seeks to make a policy, namely by sending students to study abroad on scholarships, establishing a translation and publishing agency for the Qur'an, managing the distribution of religious books to schools and Islamic boarding schools. In addition, he also made policies to appoint honorary religious teachers and the equivalent of madrasa diplomas. For his efforts, IAIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta gave a sign of honor for a professor in the field of da'wah with the title "professor" to K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri.

To respond to the needs of digital transformation, universities must continue to play their role as proving ground for educating the future generation and innovation. The article is devoted to overview, discussion, and investigation of application in higher education of two modern information technologies: big data and internet of things. The article identifies the role of analytics, based on big data, in improvement of education process and outlines the challenges, related with big data mining, storage, and security. Proposed statements are based on practical experience of the authors; architecture of program and methodological solution are the focus of the article. The article contributes to theory by the new approach to combination of big data and internet of things technologies in educational resources and, at the same time, includes implications for practice, presenting examples of the approach's realization and sharing the authors' experiences of such realization.
