Smart city strategies developed by cities around the world provide a useful resource for insights into the future of smart development. This study examines such strategies to identify plans for the explicit deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. A total of 12 case studies emerged from an online keyword search representing cities of various sizes globally. The search was based on the keywords of “artificial intelligence” (or “AI”), and “robot,” representing robotics and associated terminology. Based on the findings, it is evident that the more concentrated deployment of AI and robotics in smart city development is currently in the Global North, although countries in the Global South are also increasingly represented. Multiple cities in Australia and Canada actively seek to develop AI and robotics, and Moscow has one of the most in-depth elaborations for this deployment. The ramifications of these plans are discussed as part of cyber–physical systems alongside consideration given to the social and ethical implications.

AbstractThis paper presents a new design for artificial intelligence in cyber-physical systems. We present a survey of principles, policies, design actions and key technologies for CPS, and discusses the state of art of the technology in a qualitative perspective. First, literature published between 2010 and 2021 is reviewed, and compared with the results of a qualitative empirical study that correlates world leading Industry 4.0 frameworks. Second, the study establishes the present and future techniques for increased automation in cyber-physical systems. We present the cybersecurity requirements as they are changing with the integration of artificial intelligence and internet of things in cyber-physical systems. The grounded theory methodology is applied for analysis and modelling the connections and interdependencies between edge components and automation in cyber-physical systems. In addition, the hierarchical cascading methodology is used in combination with the taxonomic classifications, to design a new integrated framework for future cyber-physical systems. The study looks at increased automation in cyber-physical systems from a technical and social level.

The article analyzes the institutional provision of the regulatory functions of the state in such areas as artificial intelligence and robotics. The analysis is based on the Concept of the development of regulation of relations in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics technologies until 2024. Among the problematic areas of regulation are the restriction of competition, the loss of flexibility in economic relations and the market disequilibrium. It is shown that the solution of these problems requires an integrated approach. So, to implement the concept of “smart city”, it is necessary not only to weaken or remove regulatory barriers, but also to use additional tools that have already applied in the world practice. An opportunity of applying of theoretical and methodological base of quality economics is considered. The solution to a significant part of the problems of digitalization of the region’s economy is the use in the management of the development of the “smart city” the international standard “Sustainable cities and Communities – Indicators for smart cities”.

Today, the effects of promising technologies such as explainable artificial intelligence (xAI) and meta-learning (ML) on the internet of things (IoT) and the cyber-physical systems (CPS), which are important components of Industry 4.0, are increasingly intensified. However, there are important shortcomings that current deep learning models are currently inadequate. These artificial neural network based models are black box models that generalize the data transmitted to it and learn from the data. Therefore, the relational link between input and output is not observable. For these reasons, it is necessary to make serious efforts on the explanability and interpretability of black box models. In the near future, the integration of explainable artificial intelligence and meta-learning approaches to cyber-physical systems will have effects on a high level of virtualization and simulation infrastructure, real-time supply chain, cyber factories with smart machines communicating over the internet, maximizing production efficiency, analysis of service quality and competition level.

A robot with AI provides new opportunities for industries to produce work safer, save valuable time, and increase productivity. Economic impact assessment and awareness of the social, legal, and ethical problems of robotics and AI are essential to optimize the advantages of these innovations while minimizing adverse effects. The impact of AI and robots affects healthcare, manufacturing, transport, and jobs in logistics, security, retail, agri-food, and construction. The chapter outlines the vision of AI, robot's timeline, highlighting robot's limitations, hence embedding AI to robotic real-world applications to get an optimized solution.
