AbstractWith the rapid success of the digital enterprises in the 21st Century, industrial manufacturing is expected to be approaching the fourth industrial revolution, coined Industry 4.0 (I4.0). The instrumental technology that will drive this evolution is the integration of the physical and digital factory into one cyber physical system. There is consensus among academics and industry alike that there will be an integral paradigm shift in how offerings will be developed and manufactured. While there is much confidence that the future factory will have unprecedented capabilities to satisfy complex customer demands, there is little agreement on how individual organisations can utilise these trends. This paper presents a literature review identifying reoccurring themes and trends of I4.0 and their expected effect on future manufacturing. Central characteristics, challenges and opportunities are identified and discussed. The findings can provide support in developing actionable strategies for industry to direct I4.0 endeavours.

The preprint is a presentation about the contributions of Muslim scientists to technology enabling the fourth industrial revolution. First, the presentation illustrates the industrial revolutions and their enabling technologies, and then it focuses on the industry 4.0 technologies by highlighting the history of artificial intelligence. It continues with the flashback of the contributions of scientists from the Islamic Golden Age to technologies used in industry 4.0, such as mechanics, automation, robotics, and IT. The presentation presents the works of Banu Musa, Al-Jazari, and Al-Khawarizm. Then, the presentation gives an overview of the implications of industry 4.0 on business, education, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Finally, the presentation presents the challenges and opportunity of current Muslim scientists and communities in facing the industry 4.0 era.

The presentation introduces the technologies associated with the fourth industrial revolution which rely on the concept of artificial intelligence. Data is the basis of functioning artificial intelligence technologies. The presentation also explains how data can revolutionize the business by providing global access to physical products through an industry 4.0 ecosystem. The ecosystem contains four pillars: smart product, smart process, smart resources (smart PPR), and data-driven services. Through these four pillars, the industry 4.0 can be implemented in different sectors. The presentation also provides some insights on the roles of linked data (knowledge graph) for data integration, data analytics, and machine learning in industry 4.0 ecosystem. Project examples in smart city, healthcare, and agriculture sectors are also described. Finally, the presentation discusses the implications of the introduced concepts on the Indonesian context.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, finally, will change not only what we do but also who we are. The convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) and the associated paradigm shift toward fourth industrial revolution (aka Industry 4.0) in companies has brought tremendous changes in technology vision with innovative technologies such as robotics, big data, cloud computing, online monitoring, internet of things (IoT), cyber-physical systems (CPS), cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence (AI). However, this transition towards the fourth industrial revolution has many benefits in productivity, efficiency, revenues, customer experience, and profitability, but also imposes many challenges. One of the challenges is to manage and secure large amount of data generated from internet of things (IoT) devices that provide many entry points for hackers in the form of a threat to exploit new and existing vulnerabilities within the network. This chapter investigates various cybersecurity issues and challenges in Industry 4.0 with more focus on three industrial case studies.

Industry 4.0 is the fourth industrial revolution that was first introduced in Germany. This paper presents a review on the advances of robotic and automation technology in achieving industry 4.0. Many companies, research centers, and universities acknowledge that robotics and automation technology is the basis of industrial manufacturing and an important driver for Industry 4.0. Hopefully, from this report, engineering students would be exposed to new inventions of technology revolution as well as to create the business mind for a better future.

The fourth industrial revolution is the transformation of industrial manufacturing into smart manufacturing. The advancement of digital technologies that make the trend Industry 4.0 are considered as the transforming force that will enable this transformation. However, Industry 4.0 digital technologies need to be connected, integrated and used effectively to create value and to provide insightful information for data driven manufacturing. Smart manufacturing is a journey and requires a roadmap to guide manufacturing organizations for its adoption. The objective of this paper is to review different methodologies and strategies for smart manufacturing implementation to propose a simple and a holistic roadmap that will support the transition into smart factories and achieve resilience, flexibility and sustainability. A comprehensive review of academic and industrial literature was preformed based on multiple stage approach and chosen criteria to establish existing knowledge in the field and to evaluate latest trends and ideas of Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing technologies, techniques and applications in the manufacturing industry. These criteria are sub-grouped to fit within various stages of the proposed roadmap and attempts to bridge the gap between academia and industry and contributes to a new knowledge in the literature. This paper presents a conceptual approach based on six stages. In each stage, key enabling technologies and strategies are introduced, the common challenges, implementation tips and case studies of industrial applications are discussed to potentially assist in a successful adoption. The significance of the proposed roadmap serve as a strategic practical tool for rapid adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies for smart manufacturing and to bridge the gap between the advanced technologies and their application in manufacturing industry, especially for SMEs.

Nowadays, all companies are subject to new global trends related to smart manufacturing, connectivity, information technologies applications, big cloud-based data analysis, Cyber-Physical Systems, among others. These factors generate changes in the supply chain of manufacturing and service companies. According to literature reviewing, the applicable central model of the new trends, which allows these companies to face these changes, has been in continues movement. To understand the behavior of these trends, a documentary review related to Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing as trends that outline the fourth industrial revolution, is facing through this work. As result of this review, the authors to develop holistically a semantic representation of the main terms of descriptive figures and graphs, some components and terminology related to Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing. As main conclusion, this reached integrated view, aimed to establish a semantic guideline of the fourth industrial revolution that may be also applicable to the enterprise no matter its size.
