COVID-19 has disrupted normal life and has enforced a substantial change in the policies, priorities and activities of individuals, organisations and governments. These changes are proving to be a catalyst for technology and innovation. In this paper, we discuss the pandemic’s potential impact on the adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) in various broad sectors, namely healthcare, smart homes, smart buildings, smart cities, transportation and industrial IoT. Our perspective and forecast of this impact on IoT adoption is based on a thorough research literature review, a careful examination of reports from leading consulting firms and interactions with several industry experts. For each of these sectors, we also provide the details of notable IoT initiatives taken in the wake of COVID-19. We also highlight the challenges that need to be addressed and important research directions that will facilitate accelerated IoT adoption.

AbstractThe Internet of Things (IoT) is a computing concept that describes the idea of everyday physical objects being connected to the Internet and being able to identify themselves to other devices, and day by day it becomes popular in everyday life as well as in entrepreneurship. The IoT covers broad areas, including manufacturing, the health sector, agriculture, smart cities, security and emergencies among many others. The market for the industrial IoT is estimated to surpass 107 billion euros by 2021 and reach a compound annual growth rate of 7.3% as of 2020. The IoT makes an impact on all industries and provides benefits for various areas of business; however, business may be faced with some risks as well. The research aim is to analyse the benefits and risks of the IoT in entrepreneurship. The descriptive method, analysis and synthesis, the induction and deduction methods were used to achieve the aim. The research has revealed that the IoT can provide several opportunities for business in all fields of operations – marketing, logistics, accounting and human resource management. However, businesses may be faced with some challenges related to privacy and security, processing, analysis and management of data, as well as monitoring and sensing.

The future of Internet of Things (IoT) is already upon us. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the ability to provide everyday devices with a way of identification and another way for communication with each other. The spectrum of IoT application domains is very large including smart homes, smart cities, wearables, e-health, etc. Consequently, tens and even hundreds of billions of devices will be connected. Such devices will have smart capabilities to collect, analyze and even make decisions without any human interaction. Security is a supreme requirement in such circumstances, and in particular authentication is of high interest given the damage that could happen from a malicious unauthenticated device in an IoT system. While enjoying the convenience and efficiency that IoT brings to us, new threats from IoT also have emerged. There are increasing research works to ease these threats, but many problems remain open. To better understand the essential reasons of new threats and the challenges in current research, this survey first proposes the concept of “IoT features”. Then, the security and privacy effects of eight IoT new features were discussed including the threats they cause, existing solutions and challenges yet to be solved.

This chapter explores awareness in relation to sensing and smartness in the city enabled through aware people and aware technologies, including the internet of things (IoT), the internet of people (IoP), and the internet of experiences (IoE). The main aim of this chapter is to shed light on where intelligence resides in the city and what constitutes and contributes to sensing and making cities smarter in relation to evolving notions of urbanity. The research literature for awareness, sensing, sensors, the IoT, the IoP, and the IoE is explored in this chapter in the context of urbanity and smart cities, enabling identification of issues, controversies, and problems. Using an exploratory case study approach, solutions and recommendations are advanced. This chapter makes a contribution to 1) research and practice across multiple domains including the IoT, the IoP, and IoE and 2) emerging thinking on human sensing and associated behaviors in smart cities.

Connected devices have access to every part of our lives with the increasing implementation of the internet of things (IoT), from home automation, health and fitness, automobile, logistics, to smart cities, and industrial IoT. Therefore, it is only natural that IoT, connected devices, and automation find their application in agriculture, and as such, greatly enhance almost every facet of it. In recent decades, farming has undergone a variety of technological changes, becoming more industrialized and powered by technology. Farmers have gained effective control and efficiency over the process of raising livestock and growing crops through the use of various smart farming devices. Within this chapter, the authors discuss and analyze the advantages of using IoT within agriculture. They present the IoT system architecture to allow smart farming. This chapter also covers the advantages of integrating the blockchain into the agricultural field. Case studies are included in the end for your reference.

Data is an essential part of smart cities, and data can play an important role indecision making processes. Data generated through web applications and devicesutilize the Internet of Things (IoT) and related technologies. Thus, it is also importantto be able to create big data, which has historically been defined as having threekey dimensions: volume, variety, and velocity. However, recently, veracity has beenadded as the fourth dimension. Data veracity relates to the quality of the data. Anypotential issues with the quality of the data must be corrected because low-quality dataleads to poor software construction, and ultimately bad decision making. In this work,we reviewed the existing literature on related technical solutions that address dataveracity based on the domain of its application, including social media, web, and IoTapplications. The challenges or limitations and related gaps in existing work will bediscussed, and future research directions will be proposed to address the critical issuesof data veracity in the era of big data

Security is a supreme requirement in such circumstances, and in particular authentication is of high interest given the damage that could happen from a malicious unauthenticated device in an IoT system. This paper gives a near complete and up-to-date view of the IoT authentication field. It provides a summary of a large range of authentication protocols proposed in the literature. Using a multi-criteria classification previously introduced in our work, it compares and evaluates the proposed authentication protocols, showing their strengths and weaknesses, which constitutes a fundamental first step for researchers and developers addressing this domain.

Internet of Things (IoT) technology, has been changed every area of human life by making everything. Well-Developed and bright IOT communicates that a network of things or people which make a self-building network. Smart farming food excellently and supportable for the public. High quality farming-based is one of the most important arena systems of increasing food excellently and supportable for the public. High quality farming is one of the well-known applications of IoT in the agriculture are and plentiful establishments are taking advantage of this procedure around the world. One more type of IoT invention in farming and one more element of high-quality farming is harvest management devices. And weather positions, they should be placed in the field to collect data designed only for happening and only with in crop farming, from temperature and rainfall to leaf water and complete crop health. The use of farming-based drones in smart farming. Also called as UAVs (unmanned air vehicles), drones are drones are well prepared than airplanes and satellites to collect farming-based data. With the increasing approval of the Internet of Things (IoT), connected devise have got into every trait of our life from health, home automation, self-pushed and planning required to move people and supplies to where they’re needed, smart cities and industrial IoT.
