A modified convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed to enhance the reliability of source ranging based on acoustic field data received by a vertical array. Compared to the traditional method, the output layer is modified by outputting Gauss regression sequences, expressed using a Gaussian probability distribution form centered on the actual distance. The processed results of deep-sea experimental data confirmed that the ranging performance of the CNN with a Gauss regression output was better than that using single regression and classification outputs. The mean relative error between the predicted distance and the actual value was ~2.77%, and the positioning accuracy with 10% and 5% error was 99.56% and 90.14%, respectively.

Objective: COVID-19 is a sort of infectious disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. This study aims to develop a more accurate COVID-19 diagnosis system.Methods: First, the n-conv module (nCM) is introduced. Then we built a 12-layer convolutional neural network (12l-CNN) as the backbone network. Afterwards, PatchShuffle was introduced to integrate with 12l-CNN as a regularization term of the loss function. Our model was named PSCNN. Moreover, multiple-way data augmentation and Grad-CAM are employed to avoid overfitting and locating lung lesions.Results: The mean and standard variation values of the seven measures of our model were 95.28 ± 1.03 (sensitivity), 95.78 ± 0.87 (specificity), 95.76 ± 0.86 (precision), 95.53 ± 0.83 (accuracy), 95.52 ± 0.83 (F1 score), 91.7 ± 1.65 (MCC), and 95.52 ± 0.83 (FMI).Conclusion: Our PSCNN is better than 10 state-of-the-art models. Further, we validate the optimal hyperparameters in our model and demonstrate the effectiveness of PatchShuffle.

Community-based question answering (CQA) is formed to help people who search information that they need through a community. One condition that may occurs in CQA is when people cannot obtain the information that they need, thus they will post a new question. This condition can cause CQA archive increased because of duplicated questions. Therefore, it becomes important problems to find semantically similar questions from CQA archive towards a new question. In this study, we use convolutional neural network methods for semantic modeling of sentence to obtain words that they represent the content of documents and new question. The result for the process of finding the same question semantically to a new question (query) from the question-answer documents archive using the convolutional neural network method, obtained the mean average precision value is 0,422. Whereas by using vector space model, as a comparison, obtained mean average precision value is 0,282. Indoor object detection is a very demanding and important task for robot applications. Object knowledge, such as two-dimensional (2D) shape and depth information, may be helpful for detection. In this article, we focus on region-based convolutional neural network (CNN) detector and propose a geometric property-based Faster R-CNN method (GP-Faster) for indoor object detection. GP-Faster incorporates geometric property in Faster R-CNN to improve the detection performance. In detail, we first use mesh grids that are the intersections of direct and inverse proportion functions to generate appropriate anchors for indoor objects. After the anchors are regressed to the regions of interest produced by a region proposal network (RPN-RoIs), we then use 2D geometric constraints to refine the RPN-RoIs, in which the 2D constraint of every classification is a convex hull region enclosing the width and height coordinates of the ground-truth boxes on the training set. Comparison experiments are implemented on two indoor datasets SUN2012 and NYUv2. Since the depth information is available in NYUv2, we involve depth constraints in GP-Faster and propose 3D geometric property-based Faster R-CNN (DGP-Faster) on NYUv2. The experimental results show that both GP-Faster and DGP-Faster increase the performance of the mean average precision.

ABSTRACT We use deep learning to predict surface-to-borehole Fourier amplification functions (AFs) from discretized shear-wave velocity profiles. Specifically, we train a fully connected neural network and a convolutional neural network using mean AFs observed at ∼600 KiK-net vertical array sites. Compared with predictions based on theoretical SH 1D amplifications, the neural network (NN) results in up to 50% reduction of the mean squared log error between predictions and observations at sites not used for training. In the future, NNs may lead to a purely data-driven prediction of site response that is independent of proxies or simplifying assumptions.

Convolutional neural network (CNN) is one of the most promising algorithms that outweighs other traditional methods in terms of accuracy in classification tasks. However, several CNNs, such as VGG, demand a huge computation in convolutional layers. Many accelerators implemented on powerful FPGAs have been introduced to address the problems. In this paper, we present a VGG-based accelerator which is optimized for a low-cost FPGA. In order to optimize the FPGA resource of logic element and memory, we propose a dedicated input buffer that maximizes the data reuse. In addition, we design a low resource processing engine with the optimal number of Multiply Accumulate (MAC) units. In the experiments, we use VGG16 model for inference to evaluate the performance of our accelerator and achieve a throughput of 38.8[Formula: see text]GOPS at a clock speed of 150[Formula: see text]MHz on Intel Cyclone V SX SoC. The experimental results show that our design is better than previous works in terms of resource efficiency.

Purpose The problems of Super resolution are broadly discussed in diverse fields. Rather than the progression toward the super resolution models for real-time images, operating hyperspectral images still remains a challenging problem. Design/methodology/approach This paper aims to develop the enhanced image super-resolution model using “optimized Non-negative Structured Sparse Representation (NSSR), Adaptive Discrete Wavelet Transform (ADWT), and Optimized Deep Convolutional Neural Network”. Once after converting the HR images into LR images, the NSSR images are generated by the optimized NSSR. Then the ADWT is used for generating the subbands of both NSSR and HRSB images. The residual image with this information is obtained by the optimized Deep CNN. All the improvements on the algorithms are done by the Opposition-based Barnacles Mating Optimization (O-BMO), with the objective of attaining the multi-objective function concerning the “Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), and Structural similarity (SSIM) index”. Extensive analysis on benchmark hyperspectral image datasets shows that the proposed model achieves superior performance over typical other existing super-resolution models. Findings From the analysis, the overall analysis of the suggested and the conventional super resolution models relies that the PSNR of the improved O-BMO-(NSSR+DWT+CNN) was 38.8% better than bicubic, 11% better than NSSR, 16.7% better than DWT+CNN, 1.3% better than NSSR+DWT+CNN, and 0.5% better than NSSR+FF-SHO-(DWT+CNN). Hence, it has been confirmed that the developed O-BMO-(NSSR+DWT+CNN) is performing well in converting LR images to HR images. Originality/value This paper adopts a latest optimization algorithm called O-BMO with optimized Non-negative Structured Sparse Representation (NSSR), Adaptive Discrete Wavelet Transform (ADWT) and Optimized Deep Convolutional Neural Network for developing the enhanced image super-resolution model. This is the first work that uses O-BMO-based Deep CNN for image super-resolution model enhancement.

AbstractArtificial neural networks (ANN) which include deep learning neural networks (DNN) have problems such as the local minimal problem of Back propagation neural network (BPNN), the unstable problem of Radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) and the limited maximum precision problem of Convolutional neural network (CNN). Performance (training speed, precision, etc.) of BPNN, RBFNN and CNN are expected to be improved. Main works are as follows: Firstly, based on existing BPNN and RBFNN, Wavelet neural network (WNN) is implemented in order to get better performance for further improving CNN. WNN adopts the network structure of BPNN in order to get faster training speed. WNN adopts the wavelet function as an activation function, whose form is similar to the radial basis function of RBFNN, in order to solve the local minimum problem. Secondly, WNN-based Convolutional wavelet neural network (CWNN) method is proposed, in which the fully connected layers (FCL) of CNN is replaced by WNN. Thirdly, comparative simulations based on MNIST and CIFAR-10 datasets among the discussed methods of BPNN, RBFNN, CNN and CWNN are implemented and analyzed. Fourthly, the wavelet-based Convolutional Neural Network (WCNN) is proposed, where the wavelet transformation is adopted as the activation function in Convolutional Pool Neural Network (CPNN) of CNN. Fifthly, simulations based on CWNN are implemented and analyzed on the MNIST dataset. Effects are as follows: Firstly, WNN can solve the problems of BPNN and RBFNN and have better performance. Secondly, the proposed CWNN can reduce the mean square error and the error rate of CNN, which means CWNN has better maximum precision than CNN. Thirdly, the proposed WCNN can reduce the mean square error and the error rate of CWNN, which means WCNN has better maximum precision than CWNN.

Ground-penetrating radar allows the acquisition of many images for investigation of the pavement interior and shallow geological structures. Accordingly, an efficient methodology of detecting objects, such as pipes, reinforcing steel bars, and internal voids, in ground-penetrating radar images is an emerging technology. In this paper, we propose using a deep convolutional neural network to detect characteristic hyperbolic signatures from embedded objects. As a first step, we developed a migration-based method to collect many training data and created 53510 categorized images. We then examined the accuracy of the deep convolutional neural network in detecting the signatures. The accuracy of the classification was 0.945 (94.5%)–0.979 (97.9%) when using several thousands of training images and was much better than the accuracy of the conventional neural network approach. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of the deep convolutional neural network in detecting characteristic events in ground-penetrating radar images.

In this article, according to the real-time and accuracy requirements of advanced vehicle-assisted driving in pedestrian detection, an improved LeNet-5 convolutional neural network is proposed. Firstly, the structure of LeNet-5 network model is analyzed, and the structure and parameters of the network are improved and optimized on the basis of this network to get a new LeNet network model, and then it is used to detect pedestrians. Finally, the miss rate of the improved LeNet convolutional neural network is found to be 25% by contrast and analysis. The experiment proves that this method is better than SA-Fast R-CNN and classical LeNet-5 CNN algorithm.
