On the basis of realizing regional navigation, the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) has advanced navigation function, which leads to the broadcasting of more signals in a single frequency of QZSS signals. Current signal transmission technology cannot solve this problem, so it is necessary to design a signal multiplexing method. The current QZSS satellite interface document does not disclose the multiplexing modulation method of the signal transmission, which has a certain impact on the acquisition of high-precision observation data and further data processing. The iGMAS (International GNSS Monitoring & Assessment System) Monitoring and Evaluation Center of the 54th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation has used the low-distortion data acquisition and processing platform and refined signal software receiving processing algorithm of the iGMAS to complete the signal acquisition and analysis of QZSS satellites. Analysis of the multiplexing and modulation method and signal characteristics for the QZSS has been carried out, which can provide a reference for the design and data processing of high-precision receivers.

Compared with the previous GPS satellites, the first GPS III satellite adds a new civil signal L1C to the signal components of the L1 frequency in addition to the improvement of positioning accuracy, anti-interference ability, and service life. The selection and combination of signal modulation and multiplexing methods will affect the power ratio and phase relationship in the process of signal transmission. In the distribution of constellation of different modulation modes, the signal amplitudes of different signal constellation points will be affected by the nonlinear amplifiers of satellites. The analysis can assess its impact on navigation performance. The iGMAS monitoring and evaluation center of the 54th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation uses the low-distortion data acquisition and processing platform and refined signal software receiving processing algorithm of the iGMAS monitoring and evaluation center to complete the signal acquisition of the first satellite of GPS III over China, and processes accordingly for its signal modulation mode. Compared with the previous generation GPS of old system signals, it is found that the GPS signal of the new system not only adds the L1C frequency, but also the constant envelope multiplexing mode of the L1 frequency signal, and the power ratio of the internal signal components are also adjusted.

Errors in ultra-rapid UT1-UTC primarily affect the overall rotation of spatial datum expressed by GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) satellite ultra-rapid orbit. In terms of existing errors of traditional strategy, e.g., piecewise linear functions, for ultra-rapid UT1-UTC determination, and the requirement to improve the accuracy and consistency of ultra-rapid UT1-UTC, the potential to improve the performance of ultra-rapid UT1-UTC determination based on an LS (Least Square) + AR (Autoregressive) combination model is explored. In this contribution, based on the LS+AR combination model and by making joint post-processing/rapid UT1-UTC observation data, we propose a new strategy for ultra-rapid UT1-UTC determination. The performance of the new strategy is subsequently evaluated using data provided by IGS (International GNSS Services), iGMAS (international GNSS Monitoring and Assessment System), and IERS (International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service). Compared to the traditional strategy, the numerical results over more than 1 month show that the new strategy improved ultra-rapid UT1-UTC determination by 29–43%. The new strategy can provide a reference for GNSS data processing to improve the performance of ultra-rapid products.

In order to provide better service for the Asia-Pacific region, the BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) is designed as a constellation containing medium earth orbit (MEO), geostationary earth orbit (GEO), and inclined geosynchronous orbit (IGSO). However, the multi-orbit configuration brings great challenges for orbit determination. When orbit maneuvering, the orbital elements of the maneuvered satellites from broadcast ephemeris are unusable for several hours, which makes it difficult to estimate the initial orbit in the process of precise orbit determination. In addition, the maneuvered force information is unknown, which brings systematic orbit integral errors. In order to avoid these errors, observation data are removed from the iterative adjustment. For the above reasons, the precise orbit products of maneuvered satellites are missing from IGS (international GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) service) and iGMAS (international GNSS monitoring and assessment system). This study proposes a method to determine the precise orbits of maneuvered satellites for BeiDou GEO and IGSO. The initial orbits of maneuvered satellites could be backward forecasted according to the precise orbit products. The systematic errors caused by unmodeled maneuvered force are absorbed by estimated pseudo-stochastic pulses. The proposed method for determining the precise orbits of maneuvered satellites is validated by analyzing data of stations from the Multi-GNSS Experiment (MGEX). The results show that the precise orbits of maneuvered satellites can be estimated correctly when orbit maneuvering, which could supplement the precise products from the analysis centers of IGS and iGMAS. It can significantly improve the integrality and continuity of the precise products and subsequently provide better precise products for users.

Navigational error accounts for half of the accidents and serious incidents in close to shore maritime transport in Norway predominantly due to the rapidly changing weather conditions and the dangerous nature of the narrow inshore waters found along the Norwegian coast. This creates a dependence on Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) use and any disruption to this service can lead to an increased accident rate. The aim of this paper is to research the jamming vulnerability of existing maritime receivers and to understand if an upgrade to a multi-constellation or multi-frequency receiver would improve system resilience. The novelty of this work is a comparison of jamming resilience between different combinations of multiple constellations (GPS and Globalnaya Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema (GLONASS)) and multi-frequency Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals. This paper presents results from GNSS jamming trials conducted in the northern part of Norway, confirming previous research and indicating that typical maritime GPS receivers are easy to jam and may produce erroneous positional information. Results demonstrate that the single frequency multi-constellation receivers offer better jamming resilience than multi-frequency (L1 + L2) GPS receivers. Further, the GLONASS constellation demonstrated a better resilience than GPS. Results demonstrate a known correlation between GPS L1 and L2 frequencies, as well as a probable over-dependence on GPS for signal acquisition, meaning that no signal can be received without GPS L1 present. With these limitations in mind, the authors suggest that the most economic update to the single frequency GPS receivers, currently used for maritime applications, should be multi-constellation GPS + GLONASS receivers. This solution is cheaper and it also offer better jamming resistance for close to shore navigation than dual frequency receivers.

<p>Since the release of Android 7.0 in 2016, raw GNSS measurements tracked by smartphones operating with Android can be accessed. Before this date, solely the position solution of the smartphone's internal "black box" algorithm could be further processed in various applications. Now the smartphone's GNSS observations can be used directly to estimate the user position with specialized self-developed algorithms and correction data. Since smartphones are equipped with simple, cost-effective GNSS chips and antennas, they provide challenging, low-quality GNSS measurements. Furthermore, most smartphones on the market offer GNSS measurements on just one frequency. </p><p>Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is one of the most promising processing techniques for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data. PPP is characterized by the use of precise satellite products (orbits, clocks, and biases) and the application of sophisticated algorithms to estimate the user's position. In contrast to relative positioning methods, PPP does not rely on nearby reference stations or a regional reference network. Furthermore, the concept of PPP is very flexible, which is another advantage considering the challenging nature of (single frequency) GNSS measurements from smartphones.</p><p>In this contribution, we present PPP results applying the uncombined model on raw GNSS observations from various smartphone devices. In contrast to the typical use of the ionosphere-free linear combination for PPP, this flexible PPP model applies the raw GNSS observation equations, is suitable for any number of frequencies, and allows the utilization of ionosphere models as an ionospheric constraint. We explore the potential and limitations of using raw GNSS observations from smartphones for PPP to reach a position accuracy at the decimeter level. Therefore, we test different correction data types and algorithms and examine diverse ways to handle the tropospheric and ionospheric delay. The PPP calculations are performed with our self-developed in-house software raPPPid.</p>

The Global Navigation Satellite System has a huge impact on both the public and private sectors, including the social-economic development, it has many applications and is an integral part of many domains. The application of the satellite navigation systems remains the most relevant in the field of transport, including land, air and maritime transport. The GLONASS system consists of three segments and the operation of the entire system depends on functioning of each component, but primarily, the accuracy of measurements depends on the basis forming of the control segment and management, responsible for forming ephemeris-time information. In the work, the influence of ephemeris-time information on the accuracy of solving the navigation problem by the signals of the GLONASS satellite navigation system has been analyzed. The influence of both ephemeris information and the frequency information, and of the time corrections has been individually studied. The accuracy of the ephemeris-time information is especially important when solving the navigation problem by highly precise positioning method. For the analysis the following scenarios of the navigation problem solving have been formed: using high-precision and broadcast ephemeris-time information, a combination of broadcast (high-precision) ephemeris-time information, and high-precision (broadcast) satellite clock offsets and two scenarios with simulation of the calculation of the relative correction to the radio signal carrier frequency. Based on the study results it has been concluded that the contribution of the frequency-time corrections to the error of location determination is of the greatest importance and a huge impact on the error location, while the errors of the ephemeris information are insignificant

AbstractThe Fractional Cycle Bias (FCB) product is crucial for the Ambiguity Resolution (AR) in Precise Point Positioning (PPP). Different from the traditional method using the ionospheric-free ambiguity which is formed by the Wide Lane (WL) and Narrow Lane (NL) combinations, the uncombined PPP model is flexible and effective to generate the FCB products. This study presents the FCB estimation method based on the multi-Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) precise satellite orbit and clock corrections from the international GNSS Monitoring and Assessment System (iGMAS) observations using the uncombined PPP model. The dual-frequency raw ambiguities are combined by the integer coefficients (4,− 3) and (1,− 1) to directly estimate the FCBs. The details of FCB estimation are described with the Global Positioning System (GPS), BeiDou-2 Navigation Satellite System (BDS-2) and Galileo Navigation Satellite System (Galileo). For the estimated FCBs, the Root Mean Squares (RMSs) of the posterior residuals are smaller than 0.1 cycles, which indicates a high consistency for the float ambiguities. The stability of the WL FCBs series is better than 0.02 cycles for the three GNSS systems, while the STandard Deviation (STD) of the NL FCBs for BDS-2 is larger than 0.139 cycles. The combined FCBs have better stability than the raw series. With the multi-GNSS FCB products, the PPP AR for GPS/BDS-2/Galileo is demonstrated using the raw observations. For hourly static positioning results, the performance of the PPP AR with the three-system observations is improved by 42.6%, but only 13.1% for kinematic positioning results. The results indicate that precise and reliable positioning can be achieved with the PPP AR of GPS/BDS-2/Galileo, supported by multi-GNSS satellite orbit, clock, and FCB products based on iGMAS.

The differential global navigation satellite system (DGNSS) is an enhancement system that is widely used to improve the accuracy of single-frequency receivers. However, distance-dependent errors are not considered in conventional DGNSS, and DGNSS accuracy decreases when baseline length increases. In network real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning, distance-dependent errors are accurately modelled to enable ambiguity resolution on the user side, and standard Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services (RTCM) formats have also been developed to describe the spatial characteristics of distance-dependent errors. However, the network RTK service was mainly developed for carrier-phase measurements on professional user receivers. The purpose of this study was to modify the local-area DGNSS through the use of network RTK corrections. Distance-dependent errors can be reduced, and accuracy for a longer baseline length can be improved. The results in the low-latitude areas showed that the accuracy of the modified DGNSS could be improved by more than 50% for a 17.9 km baseline during solar active years. The method in this paper extends the use of available network RTK corrections with high accuracy to normal local-area DGNSS applications.

AbstractThe BeiDou global navigation satellite system (BDS-3) constellation deployment has been completed on June 23, 2020, with a full constellation comprising 30 satellites. In this study, we present the performance assessment of single-epoch Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning with tightly combined BeiDou regional navigation satellite system (BDS-2) and BDS-3. We first investigate whether code and phase Differential Inter-System Biases (DISBs) exist between the legacy B1I/B3I signals of BDS-3/BDS-2. It is discovered that the DISBs are in fact about zero for the baselines with the same or different receiver types at their endpoints. These results imply that BDS-3 and BDS-2 are fully interoperable and can be regarded as one constellation without additional DISBs when the legacy B1I/B3I signals are used for precise relative positioning. Then we preliminarily evaluate the single-epoch short baseline RTK performance of tightly combined BDS-2 and the newly completed BDS-3. The performance is evaluated through ambiguity resolution success rate, ambiguity dilution of precision, as well as positioning accuracy in kinematic and static modes using the datasets collected in Wuhan. Experimental results demonstrate that the current BDS-3 only solutions can deliver comparable ambiguity resolution performance and much better positioning accuracy with respect to BDS-2 only solutions. Moreover, the RTK performance is much improved with tightly combined BDS-3/BDS-2, particularly in challenging or harsh conditions. The single-frequency single-epoch tightly combined BDS-3/BDS-2 solution could deliver an ambiguity resolution success rate of 96.9% even with an elevation cut-off angle of 40°, indicating that the tightly combined BDS-3/BDS-2 could achieve superior RTK positioning performance in the Asia–Pacific region. Meanwhile, the three-dimensional (East/North/Up) positioning accuracy of BDS-3 only solution (0.52 cm/0.39 cm/2.14 cm) in the kinematic test is significantly better than that of the BDS-2 only solution (0.85 cm/1.02 cm/3.01 cm) due to the better geometry of the current BDS-3 constellation. The tightly combined BDS-3/BDS-2 solution can provide the positioning accuracy of 0.52 cm, 0.22 cm, and 1.80 cm, respectively.

High-precision 3D maps play an important role in autonomous driving. The current mapping system performs well in most circumstances. However, it still encounters difficulties in the case of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal blockage, when surrounded by too many moving objects, or when mapping a featureless environment. In these challenging scenarios, either the global navigation approach or the local navigation approach will degenerate. With the aim of developing a degeneracy-aware robust mapping system, this paper analyzes the possible degeneration states for different navigation sources and proposes a new degeneration indicator for the point cloud registration algorithm. The proposed degeneracy indicator could then be seamlessly integrated into the factor graph-based mapping framework. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed 3D reconstruction system based on GNSS and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensors can map challenging scenarios with high precision.
