Gait recognition is being employed as an effective approach to identify people without requiring subject collaboration. Nowadays, developed techniques for this task are obtaining high performance on current datasets (usually more than 90 % of accuracy). However, those datasets are simple as they only contain one subject in the scene at the same time. This fact limits the extrapolation of the results to real world conditions where, usually, multiple subjects are simultaneously present at the scene, generating different types of occlusions and requiring better tracking methods and models trained to deal with those situations. Thus, with the aim of evaluating more realistic and challenging situations appearing in scenarios with multiple subjects, we release a new framework (MuPeG) that generates augmented datasets with multiple subjects using existing datasets as input. By this way, it is not necessary to record and label new videos, since it is automatically done by our framework. In addition, based on the use of datasets generated by our framework, we propose an experimental methodology that describes how to use datasets with multiple subjects and the recommended experiments that are necessary to perform. Moreover, we release the first experimental results using datasets with multiple subjects. In our case, we use an augmented version of TUM-GAID and CASIA-B datasets obtained with our framework. In these augmented datasets the obtained accuracies are 54.8 % and 42.3 % whereas in the original datasets (single subject), the same model achieved 99.7 % and 98.0 % for TUM-GAID and CASIA-B, respectively. The performance drop shows clearly that the difficulty of datasets with multiple subjects in the scene is much higher than the ones reported in the literature for a single subject. Thus, our proposed framework is able to generate useful datasets with multiple subjects which are more similar to real life situations.

Distributed systems are commonly built under the assumption that the network is the primary bottleneck, however this assumption no longer holds by emerging high-performance RDMA enabled protocols in datacenters. Designing distributed applications over such protocols requires a fundamental rethinking in communication components in comparison with traditional protocols (i.e., TCP/IP). In this paper, communication paradigms in existing systems and new possible paradigms have been investigated. Advantages and drawbacks of each paradigm have been comprehensively analyzed and experimentally evaluated. The experimental results show that writing the requests to server and reading the response presents up to 10 times better performance comparing to other communication paradigms. To further expand the investigation, the proposed communication paradigm has been substituted in a real-world distributed application, and the performance has been enhanced up to seven times.

AbstractFuzzy set and neutrosophic set are two efficient tools to handle the uncertainties and vagueness of any real-world problems. Neutrosophic set is more capable than fuzzy set to deal the uncertainties of a real-life problem. This research paper introduces some new concept of single-valued neutrosophic graph (SVNG). We have also presented some different operations on SVNG such as rejection, symmetric difference, maximal product, and residue product with appropriate examples, and some of their important theorems are also described. Then, we have described the concept of total degree of a neutrosophic graph with some interesting examples. We have also presented an efficient approach to solve a decision-making problem using SVNG.

Bipartite graphs are naturally used to model relationships between two different types of entities, such as people-location, author-paper, and customer-product. When modeling real-world applications like disease outbreaks, edges are often enriched with temporal information, leading to temporal bipartite graphs. While reachability has been extensively studied on (temporal) unipartite graphs, it remains largely unexplored on temporal bipartite graphs. To fill this research gap, in this paper, we study the reachability problem on temporal bipartite graphs. Specifically, a vertex u reaches a vertex w in a temporal bipartite graph G if u and w axe connected through a series of consecutive wedges with time constraints. Towards efficiently answering if a vertex can reach the other vertex, we propose an index-based method by adapting the idea of 2-hop labeling. Effective optimization strategies and parallelization techniques are devised to accelerate the index construction process. To better support real-life scenarios, we further show how the index is leveraged to efficiently answer other types of queries, e.g., single-source reachability query and earliest-arrival path query. Extensive experiments on 16 real-world graphs demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed techniques.

Analysis of GIOVE-A signals is an important part of the in-orbit validation phase of the Galileo program. GIOVE-A transmits the ranging signals using all the code modulations currently foreseen for the future Galileo and provides a foretaste of their performance in real-life applications. Due to the use of advanced code modulations, the ranging signals of Galileo provide significant improvement of the multipath performance as compared to current GPS. In this paper, we summarize the results of about 1.5 years of observations using the data from four antenna sites. The analysis of the elevation dependence of averaged multipath errors and the multipath time series for static data indicate significant suppression of long-range multipath by the best Galileo codes. The E5AltBOC signal is confirmed to be a multipath suppression champion for all the data sets. According to the results of the observations, the Galileo signals can be classified into 3 groups: high-performance (E5AltBOC, L1A, E6A), medium-performance (E6BC, E5a, E5b) and an L1BC signal, which has the lowest performance among Galileo signals, but is still better than GPS-CA. The car tests have demonstrated that for kinematic multipath the intersignal differences are a lot less pronounced. The phase multipath performance is also discussed.

Abstract In our article, we present several protocols that allow to efficiently construct large groups of users based only on local relations of trust. What is more, our approach proves to need only very small computational and communication overhead. Moreover, we give guarantees that a trusted core of the network is defended, even facing a powerful adversary capable of controlling a vast majority of users. This is non-trivial property in real-life networks, as those are usually modelled using preferential attachment graphs, which are extremely prone to attacks on the hub nodes. We show that using our protocols we can achieve similar robustness as Erdős–Renyí graphs, which, on the contrary, are very resistant against attacks focused on chosen nodes. Our protocols have been tested on graphs representing real-world social networks using high performance computing due to the size of the networks. In addition for some protocols, we provided a formal analysis to prove some phenomena in random graphs following power-law distribution, which we use as a network model. Finally, we explicitly demonstrate how our approach can be used to amplify security offered by some privacy-preserving protocols. We believe however that our results can be also seen as a contribution to fundamental observation about the nature of social networks. These results may help to design protocols, whenever it is necessary to gather a big group of users in highly dynamic or even adversarial settings.

Current ambulatory technologies are highly relevant for neuropsychological assessment and treatment as they provide a gateway to real life data. Ambulatory assessment of cognitive complaints, skills and emotional states in natural contexts provides information that has a greater ecological validity than traditional assessment approaches. This issue presents an overview of current technological and methodological innovations, opportunities, problems and limitations of these methods designed for the context-sensitive measurement of cognitive, emotional and behavioral function. The usefulness of selected ambulatory approaches is demonstrated and their relevance for an ecologically valid neuropsychology is highlighted.

Age changes cause major variations in the appearance of human faces. Due to many lifestyle factors, it is difficult to precisely predict how individuals may look with advancing years or how they looked with "retreating" years. This paper is a review of age variation methods and techniques, which is useful to capture wanted fugitives, finding missing children, updating employee databases, enhance powerful visual effect in film, television, gaming field. Currently there are many different methods available for age variation. Each has their own advantages and purpose. Because of its real life applications, researchers have shown great interest in automatic facial age estimation. In this paper, different age variation methods with their prospects are reviewed. This paper highlights latest methodologies and feature extraction methods used by researchers to estimate age. Different types of classifiers used in this domain have also been discussed.
