The wider Zagreb area is considered one of the few seismically active areas in the Republic of Croatia. During the period 1880–1906, moderate to strong seismic activity with three earthquakes magnitude M L ≥ 6 occurred on the NW-SE striking Kašina Fault and since then, the area has not experienced earthquakes exceeding magnitude M L = 5 . In order to estimate the ongoing interseismic strain accumulation along the fault, we analyze Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array L-band SAR (PALSAR) and Environmental Satellite (Envisat)-Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) datasets acquired over the period 2007–2010 and 2002–2010, respectively. The data were analyzed using small baseline interferometry (SBI) technique and indicate very slow surface deformations in the area, within ±3.5 mm/year, which are in a good agreement with previous geodetic studies. Interseismic strain accumulation analysis was conducted on two 14 km long segments of the Kašina Fault, seismically active in the South and stable in the North. The analysis indicates an ongoing interseismic strain accumulation of 2.3 mm/year on the Southern segment and no detectable strain accumulation on the Northern segment. Taking into consideration the lack of moderate to strong seismic activity in the past 113 years combined with the preliminary geodetic analysis from this study, we can conclude that the Southern segment of the Kašina Fault has the potential to generate earthquake magnitude M w < 6.

Abstract. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway is located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and is the highest altitude railway in the world. With the influence of human activities and geological disasters, it is necessary to monitor ground deformation along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. In this paper, Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) (T405 and T133) and TerraSAR-X data were used to monitor the Lhasa-Nagqu section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway from 2003 to 2012. The data period covers the time before and after the railway was open (total of ten years). This study used a new analysis method (the Full Rank Matrix (FRAM) Small Baseline Subset InSAR (SBAS) time-series analysis) to analyze the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. Before the opening of the railway (from 2003 to 2005), the Lhasa-Nagqu road surface deformation was not obvious; in 2007, the railway was completed and opened to traffic, and the settlement of the railway in the district of Damxung was obvious (20 mm/yr). After the opening of the railway (from 2008 to 2010), the Damxung area had a significant subsidence area, and the north section of the railway was relatively stable. By analyzing the distribution of geological hazards in the Damxung area, the distribution of the subsidence area was found to coincide with that of the geological hazards, indicating that the occurrence of subsidence in the Damxung area was related to the influence of surrounding geological hazards and faults. Overall, the peripheral surface of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway is relatively stable but still needs to be verified with real-time monitoring to ensure that the safety of the railway is maintained.

The article describes changes in the composition and equipment of the network of seismic stations in Armenia, which ensured a representative level of earthquake registration in Armenia in 2014 with K3min=8.0. The analysis of seismicity on the territory of Armenia and neighboring regions is carried out, focal mechanisms of 17 earthquakes are determined using the signs of P-wave first arrivals at the seismic stations of Armenia and neighboring countries. Within the Republic, the highest level of seismic activity in 2014 was in the North, in the focal zone of Spitak earthquake 07.12.1988 with MLH=6.8, I0=10. The macroseismic effect of earthquakes felt in Armenia is described.

While surface deformations and their impact on buildings have been observed in the city of Lanzhou, it is difficult to find studies of surface deformation and the influential factors in the recent decades. This study was designed to detect the spatial position of these surface deformations and to understand the mechanism behind them. Sentinel-1A TOPS model image data acquired in descending orbits between March 2015 and May 2019 were processed by using Small Baseline Subsets Interferometry (SBAS)-Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology, and then compared with geology, tectonical aspects of the study area and land cover types in Lanzhou. The results reveal that the land surface deformation is uneven in this city, and seven surface deformation regions were detected in the following areas: the north freight yard, Jiuzhou, Country garden, Donggang, Yanjiaping, Zhongxinping and Liuquan town. The land surface deformation rate in Lanzhou ranges from −82.13 mm/year to 19.31 mm/year. Time-series land surface deformation analysis showed that deformation increased over time in major deformation regions. Surface deformation expansion was significant after June 2017and it continued to expand. The surface deformation of Lanzhou is affected by natural factors (geology and geological faults) and human activities (land cover types/land cover changes). Local geological conditions control the location of the surface deformation process. These findings provide compelling data and theoretical support for disaster prevention and reduction in Lanzhou.

A growth in the number of deer and an increase in their productivity are closely related to the solution of the complex problem of reproduction and rational use of deer females. Significant damage to reindeer husbandry is caused by the barrenness of northern domestic deer, the level of which has been quite high in recent years. So, in the Republic of Sakha, on 01.01.2020, the number of domesticated reindeer was 152,068, of which female deer and heifers — 71,818, offspring per 100 females — 59, business yield amounted to 52 fawns per 100 females. The causes of infertility are very diverse, as the natural and climatic conditions of the breeding zones have a significant influence on the reproductive function of reindeer. In Yakutia, the main population of northern domestic deer is bred in mountain taiga and tundra natural-climatic zones, so there are about 55 thousand deer in the mountain taiga zone and more than 65 thousand deer in the tundra zone. In this regard, the study of the peculiarities of the postpartum period course in domestic reindeer females, its morphophysiology, and behavioral reactions depending on the natural and climatic conditions of breeding is of great importance.

This study aims to determine the role of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia in North Sumatra Representative in the Supervision of Population and Civil Registry Service in Medan City. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods describing information about the data obtained from the field in the form of written and oral data from the parties studied. Data is collected based on interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the role of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia in North Sumatra was carried out in the form of external supervision. External supervision is supervision carried out by the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia Representative of North Sumatra to the Medan Population and Civil Registry Service. Actions taken in the supervision process are incoming reports, follow-up of the first report and follow-up of the report. Based on the research that has been carried out, it has been concluded that the role of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia in the North Sumatra Representative in supervising the service provider of the Population and Civil Registry services is carried out in the form of external supervision. In supervising the handling of public reports of alleged poor service in the area of population administration, it has been effective, with several efforts to handle reports such as: (1) Clarification; (2) Investigation; (3) Recommendations; (4) Monitoring.

Using the Republic of North Macedonia as a case study, this article analyzes the processes through which national sports teams’ losing performance acquires a broad social and political significance. I explore claims to sporting victory as a direct product of political forces in countries located at the bottom of the global hierarchy that participate in a wider system of coercive rule, frequently referred to as empire. I also analyze how public celebrations of claimed sporting victories are intertwined with nation-building efforts, especially toward the global legitimization of a particular version of national history and heritage. The North Macedonia case provides a fruitful lens through which we can better understand unfolding sociopolitical developments, whereby imaginings of the global interlock with local interests and needs, in the Balkans and beyond.

The situation in the ecology of the Crimean Peninsula in recent years was discussed in the article. The analysis of absolute and integrated indicators of the anthropogenic impact showed that the ecological situation remains difficult, and according to some indicators even continues to deteriorate. In summer 2018, the situation had worsened because of the large chemical release of titanium dioxide on the north of the Crimea from the holding pond of a large Russian plant that is situated near the town of Armyansk. This, in turn, led to the contamination of the large territory on the north of the peninsula. This fact indicates insufficient control by officials of the Republic of Crimea over the implementation of the RF laws for environmental protection by business owners of various forms of ownership, especially private ownership, the level of responsibility for the environment of which is very low.
