Vision-based fall-detection methods have been previously studied but many have limitations in terms of practicality. Due to differences in rooms, users do not set the camera or sensors at the same height. However, few studies have taken this into consideration. Moreover, some fall-detection methods are lacking in terms of practicality because only standing, sitting and falling are taken into account. Hence, this study constructs a data set consisting of various daily activities and fall events and studies the effect of camera/sensor height on fall-detection accuracy. Each activity in the data set is carried out by eight participants in eight directions and taken with the depth camera at five different heights. Many related studies heavily depended on human segmentation by using Kinect SDK but this is not reliable enough. To address this issue, this study proposes Enhanced Tracking and Denoising Alex-Net (ETDA-Net) to improve tracking and denoising performance and classify fall and non-fall events. Experimental results indicate that fall-detection accuracy is affected by camera height, against which ETDA-Net is robust, outperforming traditional deep learning based fall-detection methods.

The current automatic packaging process is complex, requires high professional knowledge, poor universality, and difficult to apply in multi-objective and complex background. In view of this problem, automatic packaging optimization algorithm has been widely paid attention to. However, the traditional automatic packaging detection accuracy is low, the practicability is poor. Therefore, a semi-supervised detection method of automatic packaging curve based on deep learning and semi-supervised learning is proposed. Deep learning is used to extract features and posterior probability to classify unlabeled data. KDD CUP99 data set was used to verify the accuracy of the algorithm. Experimental results show that this method can effectively improve the performance of automatic packaging curve semi-supervised detection system.

Numerous vehicle detection methods have been proposed to obtain trustworthy traffic data for the development of intelligent traffic systems. Most of these methods perform sufficiently well under common scenarios, such as sunny or cloudy days; however, the detection accuracy drastically decreases under various bad weather conditions, such as rainy days or days with glare, which normally happens during sunset. This study proposes a vehicle detection system with a visibility complementation module that improves detection accuracy under various bad weather conditions. Furthermore, the proposed system can be implemented without retraining the deep learning models for object detection under different weather conditions. The complementation of the visibility was obtained through the use of a dark channel prior and a convolutional encoder–decoder deep learning network with dual residual blocks to resolve different effects from different bad weather conditions. We validated our system on multiple surveillance videos by detecting vehicles with the You Only Look Once (YOLOv3) deep learning model and demonstrated that the computational time of our system could reach 30 fps on average; moreover, the accuracy increased not only by nearly 5% under low-contrast scene conditions but also 50% under rainy scene conditions. The results of our demonstrations indicate that our approach is able to detect vehicles under various bad weather conditions without the need to retrain a new model.

Software Defined Network (SDN) is a next-generation networking architecture and its power lies in centralized control intelligence. The control plane of SDN can be extended to many underlying networks such as fog to Internet of Things (IoT). The fog-to-IoT is currently a promising architecture to manage a real-time large amount of data. However, most of the fog-to-IoT devices are resource-constrained and devices are widespread that can be potentially targeted with cyber-attacks. The evolving cyber-attacks are still an arresting challenge in the fog-to-IoT environment such as Denial of Service (DoS), Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), Infiltration, malware, and botnets attacks. They can target varied fog-to-IoT agents and the whole network of organizations. The authors propose a deep learning (DL) driven SDN-enabled architecture for sophisticated cyber-attacks detection in fog-to-IoT environment to identify new attacks targeting IoT devices as well as other threats. The extensive simulations have been carried out using various DL algorithms and current state-of-the-art Coburg Intrusion Detection Data Set (CIDDS-001) flow-based dataset. For better analysis five DL models are compared including constructed hybrid DL models to distinguish the DL model with the best performance. The results show that proposed Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) hybrid model outperforms other DL models in terms of detection accuracy and response time. To show unbiased results 10-fold cross-validation is performed. The proposed framework is so effective that it can detect several types of cyber-attacks with 99.92% accuracy rate in multiclass classification.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has become one of the important technical means of marine monitoring in the field of remote sensing due to its all-day, all-weather advantage. National territorial waters to achieve ship monitoring is conducive to national maritime law enforcement, implementation of maritime traffic control, and maintenance of national maritime security, so ship detection has been a hot spot and focus of research. After the development from traditional detection methods to deep learning combined methods, most of the research always based on the evolving Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) computing power to propose more complex and computationally intensive strategies, while in the process of transplanting optical image detection ignored the low signal-to-noise ratio, low resolution, single-channel and other characteristics brought by the SAR image imaging principle. Constantly pursuing detection accuracy while ignoring the detection speed and the ultimate application of the algorithm, almost all algorithms rely on powerful clustered desktop GPUs, which cannot be implemented on the frontline of marine monitoring to cope with the changing realities. To address these issues, this paper proposes a multi-channel fusion SAR image processing method that makes full use of image information and the network’s ability to extract features; it is also based on the latest You Only Look Once version 4 (YOLO-V4) deep learning framework for modeling architecture and training models. The YOLO-V4-light network was tailored for real-time and implementation, significantly reducing the model size, detection time, number of computational parameters, and memory consumption, and refining the network for three-channel images to compensate for the loss of accuracy due to light-weighting. The test experiments were completed entirely on a portable computer and achieved an Average Precision (AP) of 90.37% on the SAR Ship Detection Dataset (SSDD), simplifying the model while ensuring a lead over most existing methods. The YOLO-V4-lightship detection algorithm proposed in this paper has great practical application in maritime safety monitoring and emergency rescue.

Security attacks on legitimate websites to steal users’ information, known as phishing attacks, have been increasing. This kind of attack does not just affect individuals’ or organisations’ websites. Although several detection methods for phishing websites have been proposed using machine learning, deep learning, and other approaches, their detection accuracy still needs to be enhanced. This paper proposes an optimized stacking ensemble method for phishing website detection. The optimisation was carried out using a genetic algorithm (GA) to tune the parameters of several ensemble machine learning methods, including random forests, AdaBoost, XGBoost, Bagging, GradientBoost, and LightGBM. The optimized classifiers were then ranked, and the best three models were chosen as base classifiers of a stacking ensemble method. The experiments were conducted on three phishing website datasets that consisted of both phishing websites and legitimate websites—the Phishing Websites Data Set from UCI (Dataset 1); Phishing Dataset for Machine Learning from Mendeley (Dataset 2, and Datasets for Phishing Websites Detection from Mendeley (Dataset 3). The experimental results showed an improvement using the optimized stacking ensemble method, where the detection accuracy reached 97.16%, 98.58%, and 97.39% for Dataset 1, Dataset 2, and Dataset 3, respectively.

The revolutionary idea of the internet of things (IoT) architecture has gained enormous popularity over the last decade, resulting in an exponential growth in the IoT networks, connected devices, and the data processed therein. Since IoT devices generate and exchange sensitive data over the traditional internet, security has become a prime concern due to the generation of zero-day cyberattacks. A network-based intrusion detection system (NIDS) can provide the much-needed efficient security solution to the IoT network by protecting the network entry points through constant network traffic monitoring. Recent NIDS have a high false alarm rate (FAR) in detecting the anomalies, including the novel and zero-day anomalies. This paper proposes an efficient anomaly detection mechanism using mutual information (MI), considering a deep neural network (DNN) for an IoT network. A comparative analysis of different deep-learning models such as DNN, Convolutional Neural Network, Recurrent Neural Network, and its different variants, such as Gated Recurrent Unit and Long Short-term Memory is performed considering the IoT-Botnet 2020 dataset. Experimental results show the improvement of 0.57–2.6% in terms of the model’s accuracy, while at the same time reducing the FAR by 0.23–7.98% to show the effectiveness of the DNN-based NIDS model compared to the well-known deep learning models. It was also observed that using only the 16–35 best numerical features selected using MI instead of 80 features of the dataset result in almost negligible degradation in the model’s performance but helped in decreasing the overall model’s complexity. In addition, the overall accuracy of the DL-based models is further improved by almost 0.99–3.45% in terms of the detection accuracy considering only the top five categorical and numerical features.

Background. Surfaced-enhanced laser desorption-ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF-MS) technology plays an important role in the early diagnosis of ovarian cancer. However, the raw MS data is highly dimensional and redundant. Therefore, it is necessary to study rapid and accurate detection methods from the massive MS data.Methods. The clinical data set used in the experiments for early cancer detection consisted of 216 SELDI-TOF-MS samples. An MS analysis method based on probabilistic principal components analysis (PPCA) and support vector machine (SVM) was proposed and applied to the ovarian cancer early classification in the data set. Additionally, by the same data set, we also established a traditional PCA-SVM model. Finally we compared the two models in detection accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity.Results. Using independent training and testing experiments 10 times to evaluate the ovarian cancer detection models, the average prediction accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the PCA-SVM model were 83.34%, 82.70%, and 83.88%, respectively. In contrast, those of the PPCA-SVM model were 90.80%, 92.98%, and 88.97%, respectively.Conclusions. The PPCA-SVM model had better detection performance. And the model combined with the SELDI-TOF-MS technology had a prospect in early clinical detection and diagnosis of ovarian cancer.

Vehicle detection is one of the most important environment perception tasks for autonomous vehicles. The traditional vision-based vehicle detection methods are not accurate enough especially for small and occluded targets, while the light detection and ranging- (lidar-) based methods are good in detecting obstacles but they are time-consuming and have a low classification rate for different target types. Focusing on these shortcomings to make the full use of the advantages of the depth information of lidar and the obstacle classification ability of vision, this work proposes a real-time vehicle detection algorithm which fuses vision and lidar point cloud information. Firstly, the obstacles are detected by the grid projection method using the lidar point cloud information. Then, the obstacles are mapped to the image to get several separated regions of interest (ROIs). After that, the ROIs are expanded based on the dynamic threshold and merged to generate the final ROI. Finally, a deep learning method named You Only Look Once (YOLO) is applied on the ROI to detect vehicles. The experimental results on the KITTI dataset demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has high detection accuracy and good real-time performance. Compared with the detection method based only on the YOLO deep learning, the mean average precision (mAP) is increased by 17%.

It is a must to bring the fall detection system in to use with the increasing number of elder people in the world, because the most of them tend live voluntarily and at risk of injuries. Falls are dangerous in a few cases and could even lead to deadly injuries. A very robust fall detection system must be built in order to counter this problem. Here, we establish fall detection and recognition of daily live behavior through machine learning system. In order to detect different types of activities, including the detection of falls and day to-day activities, We use 2 shared archives for the accelerating and lateral speed data during this development. Logistic regression is used to determine motions such as drop, walk, climb, sit, stand and lie bases on the accelerating data and data on angular velocities. More specifically, the triaxial acceleration average value is used to achieve fall detection accuracy.
