A new optical chemical sensor was fabricated based on incorporation of 2,2-furildioxime as a sensitive reagent into the nanopore of a transparent glasslike material through the sol-gel method which was suitable for determination of Ni2+ ions in aqueous solutions. The prepared sensors were composed of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), 2,2-furildioxime, methanol, hydrochloric acid and Triton X-100. The sensors were constructed by dip coating onto glass substrates. The optimum response of the sensor toward Ni2+ ions was reached at pH 8.5 and the contact time for the formation of the complex at 10 min. The linear concentration of the calibration curve was in the range of 1–5 mg L−1 with a detection limit of 0.111 mg L−1, and quantification limit of 0.337 mg L−1. In addition, the relative standard deviation (RSD) was less than 5% in determination of Ni2+ with ten slide sensor membranes. The developed sensor was tested on Ni2+ determination in real water samples which was confirmed by the atomic absorption spectrophotometer method.

AbstractTiO2 thin films have been deposited on glass substrates with and without ZnO underlayer by sol-gel dip coating process. XRD patterns show the formation of anatase phase with the diffraction lines (1 0 1) and (2 0 0) in TiO2/glass sample. In TiO2/(ZnO/glass) sample, TiO2 is composed of anatase phase with the diffraction line (2 0 0) but the diffraction peaks of ZnO wurtzite are also well-defined. The determination of the refractive index and the thickness of the waveguiding layers has been performed by m-lines spectroscopy. The thickness of TiO2 thin films deduced by Rutheford Backscattering Geometry (RBS) agrees well with that obtained by m-lines spectroscopy. TiO2/glass sample exhibits one guided TE0 and TM0 polarized modes. In TiO2/(ZnO/glass) sample, only, TE0 single mode has been excited due to cutoff condition.

Thin films of Al 2 O 3 were prepared by the sol–gel process. Dip-coating technique was used for deposition of the Al 2 O 3 thin films onto glass substrates. Optical and structural properties of the films were investigated with respect to the annealing temperature (100–500°C). The structure of these films was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was performed for the analysis of surface morphology. For determination of the optical constants of Al 2 O 3 thin films, UV-Visible spectrophotometry measurements were carried out. Annealing temperature affects the structural and optical properties of the Al 2 O 3 thin films. The refractive index and extinction coefficient of the films at 550 nm wavelength increase from 1.56 to 1.66, and from 3.41 × 10-5 to 5.54 × 10-5, respectively while optical band gap and thickness of the films decrease from 4.15 eV to 4.11 eV, and 360 nm to 260 nm, respectively, by increasing annealing temperature from 100°C to 500°C.

A comparative study of TiO2 films on glass substrates produced by sol- gel dip coating technique using two types of titania precursors were performed. The two types of titania solutions with and without triton x-100, poly (ethylene glycol) were used to prepare the films. The dip coated films were dried at 55°C and calcined at 400 - 600°C for 4 hrs resulting in smooth and transparent TiO2 films. Morphology and phases of the films were investigated using SEM and XRD, respectively. Anatase phase was found to be dominant in all samples with various degree of crystallinity depending on the calcination temperatures and whether the templating agents were used. The templating agent was found to effectively inhibit the crystallization and growth of the crystallites of the films. Morphology of the TiO2 particles was found to be in the nanoscale level. All films fabricated were found to effectively degrade cyanide even though no obvious relations between processing method including calcinations temperature and the use of template were found.

Sol–gel thin films containing Fe2O3 were deposited onto glass substrates by the dip-coating method at room temperature. Fe2O3 enriched with the isotope 57Fe was embedded in two kinds of matrices: zinc oxide (ZnO) and silica (SiO2). X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used for morphology and structure determination of the nanostructures and showed that the ZnO exhibit a wurtzite form when the film is annealed at 450 °C for 20 min. SiO2 thin films at C16H33PEO20:Fe2O3 = 1:2.7 × 10−1 molar concentration exhibit a hexagonal nanophase produced by the diblock copolymer Brij58 (C16H33PEO20). Optical absorption and infrared spectroscopy techniques were used to evaluate the optical quality of the films. In order to determine if the Fe2O3 was incorporated into the matrices, room temperature Mössbauer spectra of both samples were obtained. In both cases the hematite spectrum was obtained, corroborating that the incorporation of the Fe2O3 to the matrices was done without chemical reaction whatsoever.

Azithromycin is an effective and well-known antimicrobial agent. In the present study, a simple, sensitive and specific LC/MS/MS method has been developed and validated for the quantification of Azithromycin in  human serum samples using Clarithromycin as internal standard. Azithromycin was extracted from biological matrix  by using solid phase extraction process. The chromatographic separation was performed on Luna C18 (3 ?, 2x150   mm) column with a mobile phase consisting of 35 mM ammonium acetate buffer (mobile phase-A) and acetonitrile  and methanol in ratio of 90:10 ( as mobile phase-B) at a flow rate of 0.25 mL/min. The method was validated over a  linear concentration range of 0.5?50.0 ng/mL and limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.5 ng/mL with a coefficient of  correlation (r2) = 0.9998. The intra-day and inter-day precision expressed as relative standard deviation were 1.64% – 8.43% and 2.32% – 9.92%, respectively. The average recovery of azithromycin from serum was 98.11%. The method  was successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study after oral administration of Azithromycin 200 mg/5 ml suspension in healthy Bangladeshi volunteers. AbstractIn our investigation, V doped SiO2/TiO2 thin films were prepared on glass substrates by dip coating sol-gel technique. Chemical composition of the samples was studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Transmittance of the samples was characterized using UV-VIS spectrophotometry. Subsequently band-gap energy (Eg) was estimated for these films. Powders obtained from sols were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy. It was found that vanadium decreases optical band gap of SSiO2/TiO2 films.

ZnO thin films were deposited on the glass substrates via the sol-gel dip coating method. The films were annealed at various temperatures ranging from 350 °C to 550 °C. X-ray diffraction (XRD), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to investigate the effect of annealing temperature on the structural and morphology properties of the films. The as grown films exhibited amorphous pattern while annealed films were polycrystalline structure with (002) preferential growth along c-axis orientation. The AFM micrographs revealed that the RMS roughness of the films increased as the annealing temperature increased. The grain size was ranging from 32.1 nm to 176.0 nm as the annealing temperature increased from 350 °C to 450 °C and decreased to 56.1 nm for 550 °C.
