Viscoelastic polyurethane (VEPUR) foams with increased thermal resistance are presented in this article. VEPUR foams were manufactured with the use of various types of flame retardant additives and keratin fibers. The structure of the modified foams was determined by spectrophotometric-(FTIR), thermal-(DSC), and thermogravimetric (TGA) analyses as well as by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). We also assessed the fire resistance, hardness, and comfort coefficient (SAG factor). It was found that the use of keratin filler and flame retardant additives changed the foams’ structure and properties as well as their burning behavior. The highest fire resistance was achieved for foams containing keratin and expanding graphite, for which the reduction in heat release rate (HRR) compared to VEPUR foams reached 75%.

Biocomposites were prepared with corn straw slagging (CSS) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) at four loading levels (10, 20, 30, and 40 wt%) by extrusion method. CSS/HDPE composites were tested by tension, oxygen index meter, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and the scanning electron microscopy. The scanning electron microscopy showed that CSS was dispersed uniformly in the HDPE matrix and strong interfacial interaction was achieved, which had an important influence on the tensile strength of the composites. The tensile strength of the composites could be improved with proper increase of CSS and reached maximum value at 30 wt% content. Furthermore, the addition of CSS played an important role in improving the flame-retardant ability of CSS/HDPE composites, and the limited oxygen index was 31.26% at 40 wt% content, good flame-retardant effect achieved.

The effect of plasma gases (argon, helium) on the structure and properties of the WC-CrC-Ni coatings deposited at the graphite substrate has been investigated. The coatings were deposited by plasma spraying method in equipment Cham Pro –Thermal Spray Systems produced by Sulzer company. The microstructure of coatings were investigated by light microscopy (MO) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The performed investigations have been shown that with the increasing of amounts of argon and reducing volumes of helium and nitrogen, the microhardnees increased. The plasma gases also influenced on the porosity of coatings. In this paper, super fine LiMn2O4 powder was synthesized by mechanochemical method starting from Li2CO3 and Mn2O3. The structure, size and morphology of LiMn2O4 were explored with X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The electrochemical properties of LiMn2O4 were studied in 2 mol/L (NH4)2SO4 solution. The result showed that pure spinel LiMn204 powder was prepared after 8h grinding with 3.0KW of power and the particle size was about 1µm. Cyclic vohammetry curve indicate LiMn2O4 electrode material has better capacitive performances.

ABSTRACTIncreased water activity in peanut butter significantly (P< 0.05) reduced the heat resistance of desiccation-stressedSalmonella entericaserotypes treated at 90°C. The difference in thermal resistance was less notable when strains were treated at 126°C. Using scanning electron microscopy, we observed minor morphological changes ofS. entericacells resulting from desiccation and rehydration processes in peanut oil.

The Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3-xwt%BaTiO3 compound ceramics were prepared. The influence of different BaTiO3 content on structure was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The results show oriented is induced by plate-like BaTiO3 template. Signficant improvement of the piezoelectric (d33 = 112 pC/N) and dielectric properties ( max ≈ 5500) was observed. The improvement was attested to the apparent alignment of the BaTiO3 templates and grain oriented growth.

SrTiO3-based voltage-sensitive material was prepared successfully. The structure and properties were investigated using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was observed that the average grain size was greater than 3μm and a cubic perovskite structure was obtained. XPS analysis of oxygen indicated that there existed multiform chemical state oxygen at the surface of the grain. Further researches shown that there were a few [AO12] polyhedrons and many cation vacancies in the material discussed, which demonstrated that a lot of oxygen volatilized and a well-known semiconductivity level was achieved.

The paper presents the results of studies of the structure and properties of the gypsum composition comprising 3% of crushed siltstone, a metamorphic rock. The structure and physicochemical properties of siltstone were studied, which predetermine its usage as a structuring additive in gypsum compositions. Adding crushed siltstone to the composition of a gypsum binder is shown to cause the compaction of the structure of the gypsum matrix due to changes in the morphology of crystalline hydrates of calcium sulfate and monolithic structure in general, and, consequently, the enhanced mechanical characteristics of the gypsum composition. Using scanning electron microscopy, differential thermography, and IR spectral analysis explain the change in the physicomechanical properties of the gypsum binder.

Abstract The analysis of brasses regarding their microstructure, mechanical properties and ecological characteristics has been presented. The influence of characteristic alloying elements contained in the brasses and the possibilities of replacing them with other elements have been assessed. The paper contains the results of studies on the influence of chosen additional elements shaping the structure and properties of unleaded alloys based on Cu-Zn system as the matrix. The research aimed at determining the mechanism and the intensity of influence of such additives as tellurium and bismuth. The microstructures were investigated with the help of light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with X-ray microanalysis (SEM-EDS) for determining significant changes of the properties.

The pH and electric responsive composite hydrogels were prepared byin situpolymerization in the presence of graphene oxide (GO). Their structure and properties were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Raman microscopy and mechanical testing. The results indicate that the GO is evenly dispersed in the composite hydrogels and the mechanical properties of the GO based composite hydrogels are significantly improved. Most importantly, the composite hydrogels were responsive to external stimuli such as pH and electric field.
