Background: Plasma albumin (ALB) reflects protein nutritional status in rats, but it is not clear whether it is associated with dietary protein insufficiency in pregnant women and/or their risk of low birth weight delivery. This study aimed to investigate whether maternal serum ALB redox state reflects maternal protein nutritional status and/or is associated with infant birth weights. Methods: The relationship between the serum reduced ALB ratio and infant birth weight was examined in an observational study of 229 Japanese pregnant women. A rat model simulating fetal growth restriction, induced by protein-energy restriction, was used to elucidate the relationship between maternal nutritional status, maternal serum ALB redox state, and birth weight of the offspring. Results: In the human study, serum reduced ALB ratio in the third trimester was significantly and positively correlated with infant birth weight. In the rat study, serum reduced ALB ratio and birth weight in the litter decreased as the degree of protein-energy restriction intensified, and a significant and positive correlation was observed between them in late pregnancy. Conclusions: Maternal serum reduced ALB ratio in the third trimester is positively associated with infant birth weight in Japanese pregnant women, which would be mediated by maternal protein nutritional status.

Nutrition for pregnant women is very influential on the fetus. Poor maternal nutritional status before conception and during pregnancy will lead to low birth weight infants (LBW), fetal brain growth retardation, anemia on fetus, susceptible to infectious diseases and abortion. The aim is to determine determinant predictor of infant birth weight in Puskesmas Lingkar Timur Area Bengkulu City 2011. This study used cross sectional by analytic approach. The sample were 88 people. Data obtained in  Puskesmas Lingkar Timur Area Bengkulu City from January to February 2011. Data research used secondary data which consisted of weight gain of pregnant women TM2, TM3, MUAC, Hb, iron (Fe), infant birth weight that obtained from the register book KIA BPS in Puskesmas Lingkar Timur Area Bengkulu City. Significant value of MUAC 0.0005 (p <0.05) and significant value of Hb 0.0005 (p <0.05). This study shows that MUAC and Hb are determinant predictor of weight infants. Therefore it is necessary for the promotion of research results that can be followed by monitoring nutrient intake and nutritional status  in pregnant women.

Maternal nutritional status, e.g. body weight and composition, is associated with fetal growth. It has been suggested that the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system may be a mediator of this relationship. In twenty-three healthy Swedish women, we studied (1) the relationships before and during pregnancy between maternal serum concentrations of IGF-I and IGF binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) and maternal body weight and composition; (2) interactions between serum concentrations of IGF-I (before and in early pregnancy) and maternal nutritional status in relation to infant birth weight. We found that serum IGF-I during pregnancy was positively correlated with maternal body weight (r 0·47–0·56) and fat-free body weight (r 0·61–0·65), whereas serum IGFBP-1 was negatively correlated with maternal body weight (r − 0·44 to − 0·69) and body fat (r − 0·64 to − 0·76) before and during pregnancy. Women with a lower body fat content (%) before pregnancy had greater increases in serum IGFBP-1 during pregnancy than women with a higher prepregnant body fat content (%). In addition, significant fractions of the variation in corrected infant birth weight were explained by variables related to the maternal nutritional status when these were combined with serum concentrations of IGF-I in gestational week 14 (adjusted r2 0·25–0·44, P = 0·001–0·021), but not when they were combined with such concentrations before pregnancy (adjusted r2 0·11–0·12, P = 0·105–0·121). These results suggest mechanisms by which the IGF system may be a mediator between maternal nutritional status and fetal growth.

AbstrakPertumbuhan janin intrauterin sangat menentukan berat bayi lahir. Banyak faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi berat bayi lahir, salah satunya adalah status gizi janin.Untuk mencapai status gizi yang diharapkan, ibu hamil harus mencapai penambahan berat badan yang ideal. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan pertambahan berat badan ibu hamil terhadap berat bayi lahir di kota Pariaman. Metode penelitian adalah analitik yang dilakukan di kota Pariaman dengan menggunakan data ibu melahirkan bulan Januari-Juni 2011. Ada 95 sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, didapatkan jumlah terbanyak pertambahan berat badan ibu pada range < 10 kg, yaitu sebanyak 39 orang dengan rerata 7,46 kg (± 1,274 SD) sedangkan berat badan yang >12,3 kg didapatkan 27 orang dengan rerata 17,39 kg (± 5,792 SD). Secara keseluruhan pertambahan berat badan ibu rerata dalam rentang normal, yaitu 11,29 kg (± 5,194 SD). Bayi dengan berat badan lahir rendah (≤ 2,5 kg) sebanyak 2 bayi (2,1%) dengan berat rerata 2,350 gram (± 0,2121 SD) sedangkan berat badan normal (>2,5 – 4 kg) adalah 92 bayi atau 96,8% dengan berat rerata 3,176 gram (± 0,3339 SD). Secara keseluruhan berat bayi lahir rratae yang didapatkan adalah 3,169 kg (± 0,3661 SD). Berdasarkan hasil uji korelasi, didapatkan r = 0,103 dan p = 0,323 (>0,05). Disimpulkan bahwa tidak ada hubungan signifikan antara pertambahan berat badan ibu hamil terhadap berat bayi lahirdi kota Pariaman.Kata kunci: pertambahan berat badan ibu hamil, berat bayi lahir, pertumbuhan janin intrauterin, status gizi janin AbstractThe intrauterine fetal growth is very affect the birth weight. Many factors that can affect birth weight is one of the nutritional status of the fetus. To achieve the expected nutritional status of pregnant, women have reached the ideal weight gain. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship of maternal weight gain on infant birth weight in Pariaman. The method of this study is analytical in Pariaman. Pregnant women’s data taken from January until June 2011.There were 95 samples used in this study.Obtained the highest number of maternal weight gain, we found that the average of birth weight, range < 10 kg, as many as 39 samples with an average 7.46 kg (± 1.274 SD), whereas sample with a weight gain of more than 12.53 kg as many as 27 samples with an average 17.39 kg (± 5.792 SD). Overall maternal weight gain in the average is normal, the average is 11.29 kg (± 5.194 SD). Obtained birth weight, infant with low birth weight (≤ 2.5 kg) as many as 2 samples (2.1%) with an average 2.350 kg (± 0.2121 SD) whereas sample withnormal birth weight (> 2.5 – 4 kg) as many as 92 samples,(96.8%)with weight in the average is normal, 3.176 gram (± 0.3339 SD). Overall birth weight int the average is normal, the average is 3.169 kg (± 0.3661 SD). Based on the test result showed that the correlation, r = 0.103 and p = 0.323 (> 0.05). It can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between maternal weight gain on infant birth weight in Pariaman.Keywords: maternal weight gain, birth weight, intrauterine fetal growth, nutritional status of the fetus

Introduction: The nutritional status of pregnant women has a significant impact on the fetus's health and development. Low birth weight can be caused by womb growth problems. Research in Nepal shows that babies with low birth weight have a higher risk of becoming stunted. West Sulawesi is the most populous province in Central Indonesia, with a population of 39.7%. In Mamuju District, West Sulawesi, the relationship between stunted babies and maternal nutritional status during pregnancy was investigated. Methods: Cross sectional analytic survey with a retrospective approach. Data processing using the chi square test. The population in this study was 20.039 people. Total sampling was used to collect nutritional status data of children under the age of five in West Sulawesi province from February to June 2020. In this study, 88 people were sampled, all of whom were mothers of stunted children aged 2 to 5 Years old and who had a KIA book during pregnancy. Results: The results of statistical tests showed that the p value of nutritional status with BMI and LILA 0.000 and the p value of HB levels 0.066. There was a link between pregnant women's nutritional status and LILA, but not between HB levels and stunting. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between the nutritional status of pregnant women based on BMI and LILA and the incidence of stunting in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province.

Background : A person's nutritional condition is influenced by her nutritional status during the womb. In other words, the nutritional status of pregnant women is very influential on their own health and as a predictor of pregnancy outcomes for mothers and nutritional status of newborns (Senbanjo et al, 2013). This is due to fetal food intake can be through the umbilical cord that is connected to the mother's body (Indreswari et al, 2008). Various maternal and child health efforts are carried out to reduce mortality. One of them is obstructed fetal growth which must be known while still in utero so that the clinician can be more stringent in monitoring and planning the delivery method to reduce the risk of perinatal death. The increase in maternal weight during pregnancy is directly related to the weight of the baby and the risk of giving birth to low birth weight increases with a lack of weight gain during pregnancy. This shows a significant relationship between the increase in body weight of pregnant women and the weight of the baby born. (handayani, 2013). From several studies, it is still not known what factors most influence the birth weight of the baby, so in this study sistematic review was carried out as a strong first step for other researchers in developing this research. Method : A systematic review through journal reviews of the relationship between maternal weight, fetal weight, age at pregnancy, status of Gravida with birth weight Result and Discussion : Based on the analysis of the article it was found that the relationship between maternal weight, fetal weight, gestational age, gravida status and birth weight. Several studies have reported an increased risk of low birth weight (LBW) among offspring (generally defined as women <20 years). The number of births for women 35 years and over is increasing in both high-income countries and middle-income countries. Several mechanisms have been suggested to explain this. Biological mechanisms for increasing infant birth Low birth weight (LBW) in teenage mothers <20 years can be explained as follows. Blood circulation to the cervix and also to the uterus in adolescents is still not perfect so this can interfere with the process of channeling nutrients from the mother to the fetus she contains. Nutrition of pregnant adolescents also plays a role because adolescents still need nutrients to be shared with the fetus they contain compared to adult pregnant women who do not need nutrients for growth (Johanes, 2009 in Rahardjo et al, 2011). Teenage mothers are inherently at risk for birth outcomes that are compromised because biological factors are considered. A large US sample shows that unfavorable birth outcomes for adolescent mothers compared to older mothers occur at several levels due to biological factors (Fraser, Brockert, & Ward, 1995; Chen, et al., 2007). However, additional research shows that this difference does not exist among African-American women because of higher average exposure to social and environmental losses compared to whites (Geronimus, 1987; 1996). This explanation shows that unfavorable birth outcomes among teens compared to older mothers are the norm, from which African American mothers deviate as a result of lower socioeconomic status (SES). The role of social loss in understanding the risks of compromised young mothers from birth outcomes is examined, especially those related to the selection of disadvantaged teenagers to give birth to children. Thus, the way the age of young mothers is associated with unfavorable birth outcomes is considered, both cross and in racial / ethnic groups Conclusion :  This study has not been able to find a relationship between the weight gain of pregnant women on the weight of the baby born. According to assumptions, this happens because there are still other factors that are not yet known exactly where these factors can affect the weight of the baby born.

KEK (Chronic Energy Deficiency) is a condition of the mother suffering from lack of calories and protein (malnutrition) that lasts chronic (chronic) at risk of causing complications in the mother one of which is anemia gravidarum. Anemia in pregnancy is a decrease in Hb levels, so that the carrying capacity of oxygen for the needs of vital organs in the mother and fetus is reduced. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship of KEK with anemia gravidarum in mothers with low birth weigth history. The correlation analytic research design is a case control study approach, the population is 68 mothers with low birth weight history, using simple random sampling technique, the sample is calculated using Slovin formula, the number of 58 low birth weight history mothers fulfills the inclusion criteria. The research instrument used observation sheets to look at secondary data on cohorts of pregnant women, data analysis using the chi square test obtained a p value of 0, 001 means that p <0.05 indicates the relationship of KEK with anemia gravidarum in women with low birth weight history with a close relationship is sufficient. The value of the Contingency Coefficient in the Chronic Energy Deficiency variable is 0.39, which means that the relationship between KEK and anemia gravidarum is sufficient. The Odds Ratio (OR) value in the Chronic Energy Deficiency variable is 6.9, which means that pregnant women with nutritional status of Chronic Energy Deficiency have a 6.9 times greater risk of anemia during pregnancy than those who are not. Inadequate nutritional needs have a greater risk of anemia during pregnancy and the risk of giving birth to Low Birth Weight Babies. Researchers suggest providing counseling to women of adolescence, women of childbearing age and especially pregnant women so that they can add more information about the importance of nutritional status in pregnant women, the dangers of anemia during pregnancy and also the importance of consuming blood booster tablets during pregnancy. So that it is expected to reduce the incidence of anemia pregnant women case and low birth weight history.

Education influences a changes in knowledge, attitudes, and lifestyle patterns in the selection of the type and amount of food consumed. The health of a pregnant women affects the fetus in her womb. Nutrient content consumed by the mother will be absorbed by the fetus which is important for the growth of the fetus itself. This study aims to determine the relationship of education level, energy intake and protein nutritional status of pregnant women in the Bungoro Health Center Work Area of Bungoro District, Pangkep Regency. This research is an analytical study with cross-sectional design. Samples were pregnant women, amount to 40 people. The level of education is obtained through a questionnaire. Energy and protein intake was obtained through 2x24 hours recall and then processed using menu A software. To find out the relationship between variables of education level, energy and protein intake with nutritional status, Chi-Square was tested using the SPSS program. Data is presented in the form of tables and narratives. The results showed that 77.5% of the sample education level was high. Sample energy intake was classified as less than 82.5% and 17.5% classified as good. Sample protein intake of 95% classified as poor and 5% classified as good. Nutritional status of pregnant women is 70% experiencing KEK and 30% normal. Statistical test results show that there is no relationship between education level, energy and protein intake and nutritional status of pregnant women in the Bungoro Health Center Work Area, Bungoro District, Pangkep Regency.

Low birth weight babies are babies born with a weight less than 2500 grams. LBW (low birth weight) affects the high mortality rate in infants and is at risk of experiencing obstacles in growth and development. LBW is generally caused due to lack of nutrition and nutritional needs from mother to fetus while pregnant women aged less than 20 years and more than 35 years have the risk of giving birth to LBW. The purpose of this study is to determine the risk factors that cause LBW based on maternal age and nutritional status. The research method used was observational with a cross sectional study approach. The sampling technique was random sampling at the Regional Haji Makassar General Hospital in the January to July 2015 period with a total sample of 65 people. Analysis using the Chi Square Test. The results showed that there was a relationship between maternal age, nutritional status of LBW with a value (p value = 0.00 <α = 0.05). Maternal age and nutritional status are factors that influence low birth weight where the results of the study indicate that there is a relationship between maternal age and nutritional status on the incidence of low birth weight. To reduce the incidence of low birth weight, it is necessary to increase counseling about the causes of low birth weight babies by health workers, especially midwives to pregnant women to prevent the risk of low birth weight birth.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to study the relationship between prenatal marijuana and infant birth weight using natural cohorts established before, during and after the 20-month lapse between legalization and legal recreational sales in Washington State. Study Design Over 5 years, 5,343 pregnant women with documented urine drug screen (UDS) results delivered at Tacoma General Hospital or Good Samaritan Hospital. Maternal medical data were extracted for three delivery cohorts established based on before (T1), during (T2), and after legalization (T3) of recreational marijuana and legalized availability. Univariate and multivariate models were created to study marijuana exposure on infants' birth weight. Results Marijuana exposure increased the risk of low birth weight (LBW; odds ratio [OR] = 1.42, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01–2.01). This was more pronounced in full-term babies (OR = 1.72, 95% CI: 1.10–2.69), and was independently associated with a higher risk for small for gestational age (SGA; OR = 1.51, 95% CI: 1.49–1.53). The associations between marijuana exposure and SGA were maintained in cohort-specific models (OR = 1.53, 95% CI: 1.01–2.32 for T2, and OR = 1.43, 95% CI: 1.01–2.02 for T3, respectively). Conclusion Marijuana exposure verified by UDS was associated with LBW and SGA. However, recreational marijuana legalization and availability did not have direct impact on newborns' risk of LBW or SGA.

Abstract Objectives The objectives of this study were to explore associations between maternal dietary choline intake and diet quality, maternal body mass index (BMI), and infant birth weight. Methods De-identified secondary data from 251 participants in a study involving pregnant women were analyzed to investigate associations between maternal dietary choline intake and infant birth weight; maternal dietary choline intake and 2015 Healthy Eating Index (HEI) scores; as well as 2015 HEI scores and maternal BMI. HEI scores were calculated from 3-day food records obtained during gestation (&lt;10, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 weeks). Overall dietary choline intake during pregnancy was computed from all food records. Spearman's rank-order correlations, a one-sample Wilcoxon signed rank test, and a mixed linear model were used to test the hypotheses. Results There was a statistically significant correlation between maternal choline intake and the 1st trimester and 3rd trimester 2015-HEI scores (rs(207) = 0.204, P = 0.003 and rs(207) = 0.249, P = 0.00028, respectively). Median intake of dietary choline, 267 milligrams, was significantly lower (P &lt; 0.0005) than the adequate Intake for pregnant women (450 milligrams). There were trends (0.05 &lt; P &lt; 0.1) pointing to a pattern of negative association between maternal BMI and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester 2015-HEI scores. Mixed model analysis revealed a statistically significant negative correlation (β = −0.001, P = 0.010) between maternal choline intake and infant birth weight. Conclusions As dietary choline increased, there was an associative decrease in birthweight; however, overall diet quality was poor and dietary choline intake was significantly lower than the recommended intake for pregnant women. These findings reflect the current body of evidence that pregnant women are at risk for choline inadequacy and that overall diet quality may help in preventing low choline intake during pregnancy.
