This review is an attempt to summarize current research on ozone, titanium dioxide (TiO2), silver (Ag), copper oxide CuO and platinum (Pt) nanoparticles (NPs). These agents can be used in various fields of dentistry such as conservative dentistry, endodontic, prosthetic or dental surgery. Nanotechnology and ozone can facilitate the dentist’s work by providing antimicrobial properties to dental materials or ensuring a decontaminated work area. However, the high potential of these agents for use in medicine should be confirmed in further research due to possible side effects, especially in long duration of observation so that the best way to apply them can be obtained.

The field of nanotechnology elaborates the synthesis, characterization as well as application of nanomaterials. Applications of nanoparticles in various fields have interested scientists since decades due to its unique properties. Combination of pharmacology with nanotechnology has helped in development of newer antimicrobial agents in order to control the ever increasing multidrug resistant micro-organisms. Properties of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles like silver, gold, titanium dioxide as well as magnesium oxide as antimicrobial agents are very well known. This review elaborates synthesis methods and antimicrobial mechanisms of various metal as well as metal oxide nanoparticles for better understanding in order to utilize their potentials in various biomedical applications.

Chenodiol is noninvasive, safe and moderately expensive. Because of diarrhea, the need for aminotransferase monitoring, the long duration of therapy required, and the minority of patients who are appropriate candidates, it has had limited use. Ursodiol is generally preferred because it has minimal side effects. Patients with increased surgical risk, mild to moderate symptoms, and gallstones which are either floatable with oral radiopaque contrast media or radiolucent by computed tomography scan in a nonobstructed gallbladder arc appropriate candidates for oral bile acid therapy. Silent stones should not be treated under most circumstances.

Annotation. Prolonged antibacterial therapy of acne, mainly by antibiotics of MLS-group (macrolides, lincosamides and streptogramin B), has a number of side effects, the main of which is the emergence of resistant strains. Considering the risks and side effects of traditional etiotropic acne therapy, the use of herbal medicines may be an alternative of this disease treatment. The purpose of this study was to perform a screening study of 90% aqueous-ethanolic medicinal plant extracts antimicrobial activity against P acnes test strains. Antimicrobial activity of 242 aqueous-ethanolic extracts of 183 medicinal and aromatic plants of various organs against two P. acnes strains: sensitive and MLS resistant by HB (Heart Brain) agar diffusion method was studied. Statistical processing of results has been caried by UTHSCSA ImageTool 2.0, Microsoft Office Excel 2011. Eupatorium cannabinum L. and Grindelia squarrosa (Pursh) Dun. aerial parts, Populus nigra L. fruits and needles, Helichrysum arenarium L., Evernia prunastri (L.) Ach. herbs, Calendula officinalis L. flowers, Geranium pratense L. rhizomes and Larix decidua Mill. needles exhibited strong antimicrobial activity (diameter of growth inhibition≥ 15 mm) against test strains. Representatives with antimicrobial properties against acne agents have been found among medicinal plants of Ukraine's flora. The detection of pronounced antimicrobial properties in various pharmacopoeial and non-pharmacopoeial plants necessitates the need for phytochemical study of the raw material to isolate and identify its active components.
