This paper aims to explore the impact of a collective immersion on learners’ engagement and performance. Building on Bandura’s social learning theory and the theory on the sense of presence, we hypothesise that collective immersion has a positive impact on performance as well as cognitive, emotional and behavioural engagement. Ninety-three participants distributed in four conditions took part in the experiment. The four conditions manipulated the collective and individual dimensions of the learning environment as well as the high and low immersion of the learning material. The two conditions that offered a high immersion setting used two types of the novel immersive dome: a large one for collective immersion and a small one for individual use. All participants were presented with the same stimuli, an 8-min-long video of a virtual neighbourhood visit in Paris in the 18th century. The participants’ reactions were measured during and after the task. The learning outcome, as well as the cognitive, emotional and behavioural engagement, were measured. Final results showed that collective immersion learning outcomes are not significantly different, but we find that collective immersion impacts the cognitive, emotional and behavioural engagement of learners.

This paper aims to investigate the impacts of customer orientation, competitor orientation, learning orientation, technology orientation, and entrepreneurial orientation on hotel innovation and performance. Data from 69 hotels in four Angolan provinces were analyzed using the partial least squares (PLS) approach and multi group analysis. The results show that learning and entrepreneurial orientations have a positive impact on hotel innovation. As anticipated, innovation has a positive impact on performance. According to the multigroup analysis, only the hotel category has a moderating effect on performance. Results suggest that hotels in developing countries could add value to both customers and shareholders by promoting new services and exploring new business opportunities. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the few studies that has researched the impact of strategic orientation on hotel innovation and financial performance in developing countries.

<em>Organizational learning has the potential to improve organizational performance. For any organization to sustain long term benefits it requires to establish a mechanism to tap the knowledge and use this knowledge in taking future decisions. This study tries to capture the role of Organizational Learning and Employee Motivation and its impact on the Employees’ Performance. The study is exploratory and descriptive in nature. The questionnaire used for primary data collection has its items collected and derived from various standardized questionnaires available. The analysis of the primary data shows that there is a positive correlation between Organizational Learning and Organizational Performance. On understanding Herzberg theory of motivation the study came to conclusion that employees consider hygiene factors of motivation more significant than the motivator factors. The motivation level of employees in an organization has positive impact on the overall performance of any organization. The study helps the organizations to understand the relationship between learning and performance considering motivation as a mediating variable. </em>

This paper analyzes the impact of information interaction ability on the value co-creation business model of online education enterprises from the perspective of supply chain. Integrate the perspective of supply chain and summarize the content of supply chain capability and performance. This paper analyzes the connotation and shortcomings of information interaction ability, combines the connotation of value co-creation to maximize the advantages of information interaction, assumes the impact of information interaction on value co-creation through questionnaire survey method, uses software to analyze the reliability and validity of data, and proves that the data are reasonable. Information interaction has a positive impact on the value co-creation business model of online education enterprises.

The porous-media-based electrospray thruster is a cutting-edge micropropulsion technology that can revolutionize the capabilities of microsatellites. This paper reports the design, fabrication, and characterization of a novel porous-media borosilicate glass electrospray thruster. The porous glass used here is integrally formed by the phase separation method, which make it display outstanding pore uniformity and processability. The picosecond ultraviolet laser processing technique is applied to machine 361 emitters out of glass. Performance characteristic experiments are conducted with the thruster passively fed with ionic EMI-BF4 liquid. The results reveal that the per-emitter can emit up to 200.46 nA of ion current at 2 kV. The novel porous glass and the corresponding machine method present an opportunity to attain more-controllable emitter shapes, which has a positive impact on thruster lifetime and performance improvement.

There is an increased emphasis in the management literature on the use of strategic management as the primary means of adapting organizations to their changing environments. for firms in the maturing hospitality industry to survive and succeed, they will have to depend upon their ability to strategically align themselves with the turbulent environment and select appropriate strategies to create defendable competitive positions. Success in strategy implementation depends partly on a proper match between strategy and organizational structure and this match is expected to have a positive impact on financial performance. This study was conducted to explore the relationships among strategies of restaurant firms, their organizational structure and financial performance. The top management team in 296 American multi-unit restaurant firms were surveyed. Results regarding relationships posited among strategy, structure and performance are presented.

Current study aims to critically investigate the impact of HR practices on organizational commitment of employees in the Banking Sector of Pakistan. The impact of training, compensation, performance evaluation, and promotion practices have been assessed on affective, normative and continuance commitment of employees via 12 hypotheses. Survey methodology was adopted via using structured questionnaire. A sample of 100 respondents was drawn from the employees working with various branches of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) located in Lahore, Pakistan. Collected data was subjected to Pearson Correlation and Regression analysis. The results of Pearson Correlation matrix demonstrated a positive correlation between HR practices and organizational commitment of employees which confirms all proposed hypotheses. Regression results showed a significant positive impact of training and performance evaluation on organizational commitment of employees. However, the significance of compensation and promotional practices could not be proved.

Objective: This research studies the impact of role familiarity on team performance by examining performance of the “Carry” role in the Multi-player Online Battle Arena gaming environment, League of Legends™. Background: Roles are typically defined as stable patterns of expectations, relationships, and behaviors. As social constructs, roles therefore include notions of status, relationships with additional social actors, and of defined sets of behaviors tied to the assigned role. We hypothesize that the importance of role familiarity in teams is mediated by the nature and extent of team members’ experience working together in defined roles. Methods: The data set used for this study is from League of Legends’ Application Program Interface and consists of ranked match play from 2011–2016. Results: ANOVA and visualization techniques are used to explore match-level data in order to address the proposed research questions. The proportion of time the same team member is assigned to the “Carry” role (role familiarity) has a direct and positive impact on team performance. Conclusions: This study shows how objective, detailed data on teamwork may be used to provide insights into questions of the composition and performance of teams. Additionally, the results illustrate the importance of role familiarity in the performance of teams. Application: This research highlights the value and feasibility of studying virtual teams for new insights into team performance.

Web 2.0 applications (such as blogs, wikis, and group messaging) have been widely adopted by organizations to enhance the effectiveness of internal communication and improve knowledge management within the organization. However, predictors that impact Web 2.0 continuous use within the organization and knowledge management performance have been neither well defined nor well understood in academia and practice. This paper empirically investigates the impact of hedonic and utilitarian performance on continual usage intention of Web 2.0 applications within the organization, and then examines continuance use decision impact on knowledge management performance. The authors’ results are useful in developing guidelines and strategies to increase the likelihood of Web 2.0 continuance use and to improve its positive impact within the organization.

Abstract Background Obesity prevalence has been rising worldwide and currently is one of the most serious public health problems. Nutrition literacy is important to the development of healthier habits that could help prevent and stem obesity and overweight. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of using a multimedia web platform to provide nutrition education to Portuguese adolescents. Methods The intervention consisted in a two-week period in which students (n = 1291) had access to an interactive multimedia web platform with nutritional content, and designed for a self-paced learning experience. Students completed a knowledge questionnaire at baseline and immediately after the end of the intervention. Results The results obtained revealed that 85.8% of the students increased their nutrition knowledge. No gender differences were observed post-intervention. There were significant differences in the knowledge acquisition regarding age (P &lt; 0.001). The baseline knowledge seemed to influence the learning process. Conclusions Overall, the intervention had a positive impact. The preliminary results observed will be important for the improvement of the intervention, though they need to be confirmed by further research. Nevertheless, it is safe to say that technology-based assets can be important tools to incorporate and complement health-related interventions in schools.
