The phytochemical analysis of the butanolic extract from the leaves of date palm of Saudi origin resulted in the isolation of three major constituents, oleanolic acid (1), vanillyl alcohol (2), and β-sitosterol-3-O-β-d-glucoside (3), which had not been isolated from this plant or previously reported. Together, compounds 1 and 2 account for 1.0% of the butanol extract, which represents 0.4% of the mass of the dried leaves. The isolation of other known compounds for this plant such as fatty acids, lutein, and sucrose was also achieved in this study. The characterization and identification of the isolated compounds were conducted on the basis of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS), and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analyses. The findings of the current study will definitely increase the knowledge about the contribution of the constituents of this plant to its well-known nutrition, corrosion inhibition, and antimicrobial properties.

Nowadays, plant is being used as a biofuel, a probable source for a pesticide and it is valued for its pharmacological effects. Hence, the researchers engaged in the scientific approach to provide explanation to these claims. The study focused on the phytochemical screening of the ethanolic extract of radish bulbs (Raphanus sativus). It further dealt on the isolation and determination of the molecular masses to provide probable structures and associated molecular properties for its constituents.<br />Alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins were analyzed. Further, this effort involved analysis through Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) using the mobile phase of Toluene: Chloroform (9:11) and Gas Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to analyze the first spot (Retention Factor= 0.667).<br />Phytochemical analysis showed no tannins. Using TLC, it revealed two spots having Rf values of 0.667 and 0.507, respectively. Using GC-MS method, 24 different molecules were isolated and analyzed of which only 23 were given probable structures. The 23 molecules constituted 11 long-chain alkanes, 4 long-chain alkyl esters, 2 aromatic ketones, a benzyl halide, an aryl ether, a quinone, an aromatic aldehyde, a long chain aromatic alkane, and a long-chain alkyl nitrile. With this finding, the bulb extract may be a good source of potential biofuel (mono-alkyl ester), UV A, B and C blockers in the form of diphenyl-ketone, oviposition attractants (long-chain alkanes) and also a source of bioactive molecules such as estragole which shows antispasmodic effect, methyl palmitate with immunosuppressive effect in semi-allografts and hepatoprotective activity in rats, and an analogue of the antidepressant alfetamine.

The essential oils from Aniba parviflora and the balsam from Protium rubrum, which are two woody scented Amazonian species, were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of unknown constituents. These compounds were then isolated, analyzed and characterized by NMR. Both substances presented distinct woody notes that contributed to the bulk woody character of the crude oils.

Objective: Andrographis lawsonii Gamble is a medicinal herb species, Endemic to India: Karnataka (Dakshina kannada or south Canara district), Kerala (Palakkad district), and Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts). The Andrographis is a large genus of the family Acanthaceae. This study focused to check the preliminary phytochemical nutritive analysis, leaf stem and root and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis leaf methanol extract. Methods: The plant samples were subjected to Soxhlet extraction for phytochemical analysis and further experimental studies. The test on phytochemical studies indicated the presence of alkaloids, saponins, glycosides, and flavonoids glycosides within the plant parts, respectively. The estimation of carbohydrate protein starch methanol leaves extracts to have high activity compared to others. Results: Preliminary phytochemical and Nutritional analysis in A. lawonii. Nutritional analysis in carbohydrate protein and starch content was found to be high in leaf methanol extract. Highly medicinal compound analysis in this GC-MS Analysis 50 compound present in methanol leaf extract. Conclusion: The leaf methanol extract of A. lawsonii has exhibited remarkable preliminary phytochemical analysis and nutritional analysis GC-MS analysis to the medicinal plant.

Objective: The aim was to investigate phytoconstituents, composition of pigments, gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) and allelopathy of Alternanthera ficoidea (L.) P. Beauv.Methods: Qualitative phytochemical analysis was carried out by the method of Paech and Tracey using five different solvent systems (D.W., ether, chloroform, ethanol, and methanol). Methanol leaf extract of this plant was analyzed using GCMS. Chlorophylls, carotenoid, and polyphenols were estimated by following standard methods. Allelopathy effect was studied using leaf leachets on seeds of jowar and mung.Result and Conclusion: Investigation of above parameters in A. ficoidea showed presence of large amount of pharmaceutically important phytochemicals like tannins, saponins, phytols, carotenoids, xanthophylls and polyphenols. It indicates that this weed can be used in herbal medicines and dietary supplements. Since this weed is showing allelopathy effect it should be eradicated from fields before it spreads and occupies the place meant for crop plants.Keywords: Allelopathy, Alternanthera ficoidea, Exotic weed, Phytochemicals.

Abstract Essential oils (EOs) separated from Lamiaceae species attract more attention due to their abundant use in the preservation of natural foods and pharmaceutics and have gained considerable interester in research and industrial. The aim of this study was to evaluate composition and antimicrobial activity of EOs obtained from five species Lamiaceae in Iran. After extraction of EOs by Clevenger, their composition was evaluated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Antimicrobial properties were assayed by measuring inhibition zones, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). The results showed that the effects of species, on yield and predominant compounds amount of EOs of five species were significant with a probability of error of 1 %. The yield of oils were varied from ~ 0.02 to ~ 1.88%. About 66 components were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and the dominant compounds were included thymol (67.71%), oleic acid (0.49–62.09%), (-)-caryophyllene oxide (0.41–24.81%), α-pinene (1.09–19.41%), 1,8-cineole (0.22–15.40%), palmitic acid (0.32–13.28%), (+)spathulenol (11.16%), and germacrene D (0.30-10.26%) in different species. The results of analysis of variance showed that there was a significant difference between the mean of the inhibition zone obtained treating the different microorganisms with the essential oil of five species (P ≤ 0.01). The highest inhibition zone belonged to TDEO (39.33 ± 0.58 and 25.00 ± 0.00 mm) against Gram-positive S. aureus and A. brasiliensis. The Gram-negative P. aeruginosa showed the lowest inhibitory resistance to HIEO, SIEO, and ROEO (with a MIC value of 31.25 µg/mL), which was very significant compared to rifampin. Therefore, EOs of five species have potential applications in the control of various bacteria and fungi and can be a natural alternative to some antibiotics.

Objective: The mimosine is a novel substance extracted and purified from Mimosa pudica. The present study is to evaluate lipid peroxidation (LPO). Methods: The sox halation is used to differentiate extracts. Mimosine is purified by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS). The present study was conducted to evaluate the hepatoprotective activity of ethanol extract of M. pudica against alcohol-induced albino rats. This was evident from significant of M. pudica on LPO and antioxidants liver of rats. Results: By GC–MS and LC–MS, the mimosine is purified and it shows the highest peak. The phytochemical analysis of M. pudica and the activity of the enzyme antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase is 176.83 g and peroxidase is 0.989 g, were found to be present in the plant extract of M. pudica. In rat treated with toxic dose of alcohol, a significant increase in serum and liver were observed. Simultaneous oral administration of the aqueous extract of M. pudica reduced the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity to a significant extent compared to control. LDH, a cytosolic liver marker enzyme, is a regulator of many biochemical reactions in the body tissues and the fluid. Conclusion: The result obtained in our work, existence of bioactive substance proves that it is mainly used as a traditional medicine. The phytochemical analysis indicated the presence of alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, tannin, phenolic, saponins, proteins, and amino acids. The liver showed that the induction of alcohol causes hepatic necrosis and injury, but it is cured by M. pudica.
