AB5 compounds issued from the reactivity of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene are relatively easy to obtain using two ways: either first the reaction of one chloride with one reagent, followed by the reaction of the five remaining Cl with another reagent, or first the reaction of five chlorides with one reagent, followed by the reaction of the single remaining Cl with another reagent. This particular property led to the use of such compounds as core for the synthesis of dendrons (dendritic wedges), using the five functions for growing the dendritic branches. The single function can be used for the synthesis of diverse types of dendrimers (onion peel, dumbbell-shape, Janus), for covalent or non-covalent grafting to solid surfaces, providing nanomaterials, for grafting a fluorophore, especially for studying biological mechanisms, or for self-associations to get micelles. All these properties are reviewed in this paper.

The formation of “iso-oleic” acids during hydrogenation of oleic (Δ 9 : 10 - octadecenoic) acid or its esters is of importance in connection with the general theory of catalytic action at solid surfaces. The constitution of these isomeric acids has therefore been re-examined by means of the oxidising action of potassium permanganate upon hot acetone solutions of their unsaturated esters, a method which has been shown to break such compounds up almost quantitatively into derivatives of the corresponding monobasic and dibasic acids:- CH 3 . [CH 2 ] x . CH : CH. [CH 2 ] y . COOR → CH 3 . [CH 2 ] x . COOH + COOH. [CH 2 ] y . COOR. Moore has already shown that during hydrogenation a state of equilibrium is reached between the amounts of ordinary oleic acid present and the isomeric forms, and that the latter include elaidic acid together with one or more isooleic acids produced by migration of the ethylenic linkage (Δ 11 : 12 -octadecenoic acid being suggested as a possible product).

This paper proposes a foot mapping-based representation of curves and surfaces which is a geometric generalization of signed distance functions. We present a first-order characterization of the footvector mapping in terms of the differential geometric invariants of the represented shape and quantify the dependence of the spatial partial derivatives of the footvector mapping with respect to the principal curvatures at the footpoint. The practical applicability of foot mapping representations is highlighted by several fast iterative methods to compute the exact footvector mapping of the offset surface of CSG trees. The set operations for footpoint mappings are higher-order functions that map a tuple of functions to a single function, which poses a challenge for GPU implementations. We propose a code generation framework to overcome this that transforms CSG trees to the GLSL shader code.
