A comparative study was performed on Trichoderma harzianum and a combination of Candida boidinii/Bacillus pumilus to reduce the polluting effect of TOPW (Table Olive Processing Water) from the Spanish style. A 2k fractional design was used to study the effect of pH (6–11 for the fungus and 6–9 for Candida/Bacillus), temperature (10–35 °C) and duration (7–14 days for Candida/Bacillus and 14–21 days for T. harzianum), and the effect on phenol reduction, COD and color was evaluated. The experiments were also performed on diluted TOPW (dilution ratio 1:1). Generally, Trichoderma removed higher amounts of phenols and reduced COD more than the combination Candida/Bacillus, thus confirming the higher efficiency of filamentous fungi reported in the literature. The dilution of TOPW had an effect only on COD reduction; however, the effect was mild, at least for T. harzianum (4%), while yield increase was 9% for Bacillus/Candida. pH acted in a different way on phenol removal and COD reduction; an increase of pH caused a reduction of efficiency for COD, while the effect was positive for phenols.

The main goal of this paper was to assess the ability of a combination of Candida boidinii and Bacillus pumilus to remove phenol in table olive processing water, as a function of some variables, like temperature, pH, a dilution of waste and the order of inoculation of the two microorganisms. At this purpose C. boidinii and B. pumilus were sequentially inoculated in two types of table olive processing water (fresh wastewater, FTOPW and wastewater stored for 3 months-aged wastewater, ATOPW). pH (6 and 9), temperature (10 and 35 °C) and dilution ratio (0, 1:1) were combined through a 2k fractional design. Data were modeled using two different approaches: Multifactorial Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and multiple regression. A higher removal yield was achieved by inoculating B. pumilus prior to the yeast (192 vs. 127 mg/L); moreover, an increased efficiency was gained at 35 °C (mean removal of 200 mg/L). The use of two statistic approach suggested a different weight of variables; temperature was a global variable, that is a factor able to affect the yield of the process in all conditions. On the other hand, an alkaline pH could increase the removal of phenol at 10 °C (25–43%).

Use of Cultural Filtrates of Certain Microbial Isolates for Powdery Mildew Control in SquashPowdery mildew induces significant losses in yield and quality of squash. Therefore, culture filtrates of certain microbial isolates, (Epicoccum nigrum,Epicoccum minitans,Epicoccumsp.,Trichoderma harzianum,Trichoderma virideandBacillus pumilus) were used alone, and in combination with the fungicide penconazole to control powdery mildew in squash, under field conditions. Moreover, GC-MS analysis was carried out to identify the chemical components of the most effective culture filtrates against powdery mildew pathogen. The results showed that culture filtrates of different microbial isolates (except forTrichoderma harzianum) were more effective against powdery mildew in squash than the tested fungicide alone at the recommended levels, in both tested seasons. The results also showed that mixing different culture filtrates with penconazole improved efficiency against powdery mildew compared to using the fungicide alone, in both tested seasons. The efficacy of the culture filtrates of the tested microbial isolates against powdery mildew were due to the presence of a mixture of known antifungal compounds. The results suggest the possible use of the culture filtrates of the tested microbial isolates as alternative to fungicides, in powdery mildew control. Also, this study suggests the possible mixing of the culture filtrate of the tested biocontrol agents with fungicides to minimize the applied amount of fungicides.

A comparative study on mineral composition of the olive trees was made to see the changes in the content of the nutrient elements in the component (leaf and fruit) parts. Differences between the leaf and fruit mean concentrations of the whole elements examined were found to be statistically significant. Potassium and boron concentrations in the fruits were higher than that of the leaves. But, the concentration of the rest of the elements in the fruits was lower than the leaves.

Essential Oils andTrichoderma Harzianumas an Integrated Control Measure Against Faba Bean Root Rot PathogensCarnation, caraway, thyme, peppermint and geranium essential oils have been found to have inhibitory effects against the mycelial growth ofFusarium solani,Rhizoctonia solani,Sclerotium rolfsiiandMacrophomina phaseolinaunderin vitroconditions. Complete inhibition of fungal growth was observed with the use of 4% carnation and geranium oils. Mycelial growth of the tested fungi showed more sensitivity to high concentrations of thyme than to caraway and peppermint oils. Moreover, essential oils used to coat seeds resulted in a significant reduction of root rot incidence of bean, at both pre- and post-emergence stages under greenhouse conditions. Under field conditions seeds coated with essential oils at a concentration of 4% sown in soil treated with the bio-agentTrihoderma harzianum, gave pronounced protection to emerged bean seeds against the invasion of root rot pathogenic fungi. Compared to the control, the above treatment resulted in a reduction of disease incidence at the pre-emergence stage. This reduction was calculated to be between 47.3 and 55.4% compared with a 16.1% reduction with the use of the Rizolex-T treatment. At the post-emergence stage, all applied treatments were able to reduce the percentage of root-rot incidence. Reduction ranged between 41.4 and 47.1% over the untreated control. Reduction in disease incidence was reflected in a yield increase of 15.1-28.8% and 40.1-50%, in seeds coated with one of the different essential oils, or combined withT. harzianumsoil treatments, in the respective order. Seeds coated with the fungicide Rhizolex-T caused a yield increase estimated as 11.3% over the check treatment. These results show that application of essential oils in integration with the bio-agentT. harzianummay be considered as an applicable, safe and cost-effective method for controlling such soilborne diseases.

The study of different complexes of new and innovative forms of fertilizers with the same ratio of trace elements applied in Nizhny Novgorod region in 2018 showed that the greatest grain yield increase to 0.45 and 0.435 t/ha or 7.8 and 7.4 % was obtained using trace elements and amino acids in doses of 1.5 and 3.0 l/ha. Similar results were observed when using amino acids in a dose of 2.0 l/ha. The yield Increase was 0.44 t/ha compared to the control one of 2.59 t/ha. In Ryazan region, the maximum yield was obtained using amino acids in a dose 1.0 l/ha; the yield increase was 1.4 t/ha or 28.6 %, while the control yield was 4.9 t/ha. Amino acid with microelements in a dose of 1.5 and 3.0 l/ha gave the high yield; the yield increase was 1 t/ha (20.4 %).

Integrated commercial blue-green algae extracts and bioagents treatments against vegetables root rot incidence when used as soil drench under greenhouse and plastic house conditions were evaluated. All applied treatments reduced significantly root rot incidence at both pre- and postemergence growth stages of cucumber, cantaloupe, tomato, and pepper plants compared with untreated check control. In pot experiment, the obtained results showed that treatments ofTrichoderma harzianumorBacillus subtiliseither alone or combined with commercial algae extracts were significantly superior for reducing root rot disease for two tested vegetable plants compared with the other tested treatments as well as control. It is also observed that rising concentrations of either algae products, Oligo-X or Weed-Max, were reflected in more disease reduction. Promising treatments for controlling root rot disease incidence were applied under plastic houses conditions. As for field trails carried out under plastic houses conditions at different locations, the obtained results revealed that the applied combined treatments significantly reduced root rot incidence compared with fungicide and check control treatments. At all locations it was observed that Weed-Max (2 g/L) +Bacillus subtilissignificantly reduced disease incidence of grown vegetables compared with Oligo-X (2 mL/L) +Trichoderma harzianumtreatments. An obvious yield increase in all treatments was significantly higher than in the control. Also, the harvested yield in applied combined treatments at all locations was significantly higher than that in the fungicide and control treatments.
