This paper proposes a compact, semi-circular shaped multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna design with high isolation and enhanced bandwidth for ultrawide band (UWB) applications. A decoupling stub is used for high isolation reaching up to −55 dB over the entire bandwidth. The proposed antenna is used for UWB as well as super wide band (SWB) applications. The overall size of the proposed antenna is 18 × 36 × 1.6 mm3. The | S 11 | and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of the proposed antenna are less than −10 dB and 2, respectively, in the range of 3–40 GHz. The total impedance bandwidth of the proposed design is 37 GHz. The VSWR, | S 11 | , | S 22 | , | S 21 | , | S 12 | , gain, envelope correlation coefficient (ECC), radiation pattern, and various other characteristic parameters are discussed in detail. The proposed antenna is optimized and simulated in a computer simulation technology (CST) studio, and printed on a FR4 substrate.

This paper presents a compact planar multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna for super wide band (SWB) applications. The presented MIMO antenna comprises two identical patches on the same substrate. Dimensions of the MIMO antenna are 0.17λ × 0.20λ × 0.006λ mm3, with respect to the lowest resonance of 1.30 GHz. The SWB antenna was manufactured using F4B substrate having a dielectric constant of 2.65 that provides a percent impedance bandwidth and bandwidth ratio of 187% and 30.76:1, respectively. The mutual coupling between the antenna elements is suppressed by placing a T-shaped corrugated strip in the mid of two antenna elements. The proposed MIMO antenna exhibits maximum diversity gain of 10 dB, low mutual coupling (<−20 dB), low envelope correlation coefficient (ECC < 0.02), efficiency >80%, and low reflection coefficient (<−10 dB) in the SWB frequency range (1.30 GH–40 GHz). The presented antenna is a good candidate for SWB applications. The designed antenna has been experimentally validated, and the simulated results were also verified.

In this article, a compact ultra-wide band (UWB) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna system is showed. This antenna is based on fractal Fibonacci circles and operates over wide frequency range from 2.9 to 14.51 GHz. The dielectric used was Duroid substrate with dielectric constant εr = 2.2 and thickness of substrate 1.27 mm. This UWB MIMO antenna is simulated by HFSS. In order to improve the isolation between the elements of the antenna a parasitic structure is used, getting S12 and very low ECC. Also, the Total Active reflection Coefficient (TARC) was obtained. Proposed antenna can be used for UWB communication applications and its size is 64 × 38mm2

Abstract In this research study, a compact dual-polarized co-radiator ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with improved impedance bandwidth and isolation is proposed for wireless applications. The designed co-radiator has an overall area of 0.3λo × 0.3λo mm2 (where, λo is free space wavelength corresponding to the lower cut-off frequency, i.e., 3.1 GHz). The proposed resonator comprises of a hybrid geometry which is created with the combinations of a circular-shaped patch, a square, and two rectangular stubs. It is centrally aligned between two 50 Ω micro-strip feed lines that are positioned orthogonal to each other. Further, the modified ground plane is attached with the end-loaded line which provides broadband isolation over entire UWB frequency band. The simulated results of the proposed antenna exhibit wideband characteristics with impedance bandwidth of 3.1–16.9 GHz with minimum isolation of −15 dB. Moreover, all the radiation performance parameters are analyzed and discussed. Some important diversity parameters such as envelope correlation coefficient, mean effective gain, effective diversity gain, and channel capacity loss have also been evaluated. Furthermore, all the measured results of proposed antenna agree well with the simulated results which make the proposed antenna a suitable candidate for UWB-MIMO wireless applications.

Abstract In this article, cross-shaped metallic parasitic strips based two radiator element multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is excited by quadrature wave transformer microstrip feedline, designed, simulated and fabricated for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The proposed MIMO antenna structure is implemented with the help of two rectangular-shaped radiator elements that supports three modes HE11δ , HE21δ , and HE12δ at 4.4, 8.3, 10.8 GHz respectively. These fundamental and higher-order modes are supported to wide impedance bandwidth. Inverted T-shaped metallic strip and ground stub to improve the impedance bandwidth 104.6% (3.3–10.8 GHz) with 5.7 dBi peak gain, to enhance the coupling coefficient by stub, scissor-shaped defected ground structure and cross-shaped metallic parasitic strips are used in the existed structure. The MIMO diversity parameters are implemented as simulated ECC ≤ 0.003, DG ≥ 9.98 dB, and CCL ≤ 0.68. All the obtained MIMO antenna parameters are within the acceptable limit for providing high data rate for UWB applications.

A compact high isolation ultrawideband (UWB) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is designed. The proposed MIMO antenna consists of a rectangular monopole antenna and a slot antenna fed by two microstrip lines, respectively. To improve the impedance matching, a circular coupling structure is designed to feed the tapered slot antenna. The parasitic resonance introduced by the ground stub helps to extend the impedance bandwidth of monopole antenna at the upper UWB band. Commonly used complex decoupling or coupling structures are eliminated that endow the proposed antenna minimized foot print, which is preferred in mobile handset. Although without decoupling structure, high isolation is obtained between two antenna elements. Simulation and measurement verify the antenna’s desirable performance, showing a broad impedance bandwidth of 3.1–10.6 GHz with |S11| < −10 dB and |S21| < −20 dB over 3.4–10.6 GHz, and |S21| < −18 dB from 3.1–3.4 GHz.

In the paper, an extremely compact multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is proposed for portable wireless ultrawideband (UWB) applications. The proposed prototype consists of four monopole antenna elements, which are placed perpendicularly to achieve polarization diversity. In addition, the mutual coupling between antenna elements is suppressed by designing the gap between the radiation element and the ground plane. Moreover, a matching stub has been connected to the feedline to ensure impedance matching in high frequency. Both simulated and measured results indicate that the proposed antenna has a bandwidth of 3–20 GHz, with a high isolation better than 17 dB. In addition, the designed MIMO antenna offers excellent radiation characteristics and stable gain over the whole working band. The envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) is less than 0.1, which shows that the antenna can meet the polarization diversity characteristics well.

This paper presents a close-spaced dual-band 2 × 2 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation based on half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW). The dual-band operation of the antenna element is achieved by loading a rectangular patch outside the radiating aperture of an HMSIW cavity. The HMSIW cavity is excited by a coaxial probe, whereas the rectangular patch is energized through proximity coupling by the radiating aperture of HMSIW. The antenna elements can be closely placed using the rotation and orthogonal arrangement for a 2 × 2 array. Small neutralization lines at the center of the MIMO antenna can increase the isolation among its elements by around 10 dB in the lower band and 5 dB in the higher band. A prototype of the MIMO antenna is fabricated and its performance is measured. The measured results show that the resonant frequencies are centered at 4.43 and 5.39 GHz with bandwidths of 110 and 80 MHz and peak gains of 6 and 6.4 dBi, respectively. The minimum isolation in both bands is greater than 35 dB. The envelope correlation coefficient is lower than 0.005 within two operating bands.

A compact printed 2 × 2 ultrawideband (UWB) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna with a single circular patch as a common radiator for both the antenna elements is presented in this paper. A single circular patch is excited by two tapered CPW feeds for dual polarization. To improve the isolation between two ports, a rectangular slot of dimension L1 × W1 is created in the radiator. The UWB MIMO antenna has impedance bandwidth of 3–12 GHz with a isolation better than 17 dB between the two ports. The envelope correlation coefficient and the capacity loss are evaluated to ensure the good diversity performance of UWB MIMO antenna. The antenna has a compact size of 45 × 45 mm2 and is fabricated on low cost FR4 substrate and measured using Agilent VNA. The simulated and measured results show that the proposed UWB antenna is good candidate for UWB MIMO applications.

In this research article, a compact MIMO (Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output) antenna with inclusion of two notched bands characteristics is presented. Designed MIMO antenna consist of dual radiating patches printed on one surface of the substrate which covers measured wide impedance bandwidth of 2.88 GHz–19.98 GHz and satisfies bandwidth ratio more than 10:1 for superwideband with compact size of 18 mm × 34 mm. Two radiating patch are placed symmetrically for MIMO configuration and notched bands to eliminate WiMAX/C and WLAN bands are obtained by attaching inverted T-shaped stub on radiating patch and etched inverted U-shape slit in microstrip feed. Isolation between the two radiating patch is maintained by adding two L-shaped stub in slotted rectangular ground plane. Measured radiation pattern are stable in operating band and offers maximum 4.23 dBi and 89% gain and radiation efficiency respectively. Moreover, antenna shows good diversity performance with Envelope-Correlation-Coefficient (ECC) < 0.5, Directive-Gain (DG) > 9.95 dB and Total-Active-Reflection Coefficient (TARC) < -30 dB.
