A piezoelectric actuator using a lever mechanism is designed, fabricated, and tested with the aim of accomplishing long-travel precision linear driving based on the stick-slip principle. The proposed actuator mainly consists of a stator, an adjustment mechanism, a preload mechanism, a base, and a linear guide. The stator design, comprising a piezoelectric stack and a lever mechanism with a long hinge used to increase the displacement of the driving foot, is described. A simplified model of the stator is created. Its design parameters are determined by an analytical model and confirmed using the finite element method. In a series of experiments, a laser displacement sensor is employed to measure the displacement responses of the actuator under the application of different driving signals. The experiment results demonstrate that the velocity of the actuator rises from 0.05 mm/s to 1.8 mm/s with the frequency increasing from 30 Hz to 150 Hz and the voltage increasing from 30 V to 150 V. It is shown that the minimum step distance of the actuator is 0.875 μm. The proposed actuator features large stroke, a simple structure, fast response, and high resolution.

The objective of this research was to use a DSP for controlling a nano-precision positioning system. The positioning system was constructed by a piezoelectric actuator, a flexural stage that composed by notch hinges and parallel springs; capacitor sensor was used instead of laser interferometer as displacement sensor. In order to increase the traveling range of the stage, a lever mechanism was used to enlarge the displacement of the piezoelectric actuator. In this study a Dmatek PICE-DSP 320C542 microcomputer developing system was used as the controller, which contained a TI TMS320C542 DSP chip. PI feedback control rule together with n-times feedforward control rule were used for the controlling of this system. Three different experiments were conducted: (1) fixed-point test; (2) continuous stepping test; and (3) ramp-tracking test. From the experiment results, it was shown that the bias Ess was within 2 nm and the standard deviation 1σ was around 30 nm, with settling time less than 0.02 sec, in the continuous stepping test. While, in the ramp-tracking test, the bias Ess was less than 1.25 nm and the standard deviation 1σ was around 35 nm.

To determine the efficiency, load-bearing capacity and fatigue life of beveloid gears with intersecting axes, we design a mechanical gear test bed with closed power flow. To test the quality of its structure and predict its overall performance, we establish a three-dimensional solid model for various components based on the design parameters and adopt the technology of virtual prototyping simulation to conduct kinematics simulation on it. Then observe and verify the interactive kinematic situation of each component. Moreover, the finite element method is also utilized to carry out structural mechanics and dynamics analysis on some key components. The results indicate that the test bed can achieve the desired functionality, and the static and dynamic performance of some key components can also satisfy us.

In order to optimize the design of flexible pressurized anchor, this paper gives a further analysis on structural features of the new type of flexible pressurized anchor and carries out a contact analysis on anchor system by using the finite element method. It calculates as well as researches the contact stress relation of interactional anchor rod and surrounding rock under the circumstance of anchoring, obtaining the law of all major design parameters of anchor rod structure and pressure from surrounding rock influencing the anchoring performance and arriving at the conclusion that the anchor rod is adapted to various conditions of surrounding rock. They not only serve as important references for optimized design and application of anchor rod, but also provide a basis for the experiment of new type of anchor rod.

Разработан алгоритм и проведена оценка прочности сборных твердосплавных элементов со сплошной и дискретной рабочими поверхностями. Получены зависимости, позволяющие установить связь между конструктивными параметрами сборных деформирующих инструментов и их прочностью. Выполнены прочностные расчеты деформирующего инструмента для обработки отверстий значительного диаметра со сплошной и дискретной рабочими поверхностями. Численным моделированием, методом конечных элементов получены распределения эквивалентных напряжений в элементах инструмента и контактных напряжений по поверхности контакта твердосплавная вставка-корпус, что позволило проанализировать прочность инструмента под нагрузкой. Определены конструктивные параметры инструмента и приведены алгоритмы последовательности расчета сборных деформирующих элементов (ДЭ). Разработан алгоритм последовательности расчета сборного ДЭ для дискретного протягивания. Предложенная конструкция сборного рабочего элемента позволяет не только улучшить обрабатываемость изделия резания, но и уменьшить расход остродефицитного твердого сплава по сравнению с твердосплавным ДЭ аналогичных размеров на 6 кг. Полученные результаты можно использовать в инженерных расчетах при проектировании сборного инструмента для дискретного деформирования, а также для оценки прочности сборных инструментов, например, фрез, зенкеров, разверток при уточнении внешних нагрузок We developed an algorithm and assessed the strength of prefabricated carbide elements with solid and discrete working surfaces. We obtained dependencies that make it possible to establish a relationship between the design parameters of prefabricated deforming tools and their strength. We performed strength calculations of the deforming tool for machining holes of significant diameter with solid and discrete working surfaces. We obtained the distributions of equivalent stresses in the elements of the tool and contact stresses over the contact surface of the hard-alloy insert - body by numerical modeling, by the finite element method, which made it possible to analyze the strength of the tool under load. We determined the design parameters of the tool and here we give algorithms for the sequence of calculation of prefabricated deforming elements (DE). We developed an algorithm for the sequence of calculating the prefabricated DE for discrete broaching. The proposed design of the prefabricated working element allows not only to improve the machinability of the cutting product but also to reduce the consumption of an acutely deficient hard alloy in comparison with a hard alloy DE of similar dimensions by 6 kg. The results obtained can be used in engineering calculations when designing a prefabricated tool for discrete deformation, as well as for assessing the strength of prefabricated tools, for example, cutters, countersinks, reamers when specifying external loads

The objective of the presented work is to perform numerical and experimental studies on compressor stators. This paper presents the modification of a baseline stator design using numerical optimization resulting in a new 3D stator. The Rolls Royce in-house compressible flow solver HYDRA was employed to predict the 3D flow, solving the steady RANS equations with the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model, and its corresponding discrete adjoint solver. The performance gradients with respect to the input design parameters were used to optimize the stator blade with respect to the total pressure loss over a prescribed incidence range, while additionally minimizing the flow deviation from the axial direction at the stator exit. Non-uniform profile boundary conditions, being derived from the experimental measurements, have been defined at the inlet of the CFD domain. The presented results show a remarkable decrease in the axial exit flow angle deviation and a minor decrease in the total pressure loss. Experiments were conducted on two compressor blade sets investigating the three-dimensional flow in an annular compressor stator cascade. Comparing the baseline flow of the 42° turning stator shows that the optimized stator design minimizes the secondary flow phenomena. The experimental investigation discusses the impact of steady flow conditions on each stator design while focusing on the comparison of the 3D optimized design to the baseline case. The flow conditions were investigated using five-hole probe pressure measurements in the wake of the blades. Furthermore, oil-flow visualization was applied to characterize flow phenomena. These experimental results are compared with the CFD calculations.

Background In recent years, as the large own weight of active exoskeleton brings some difficulty to energy-sustainable, studies have shown that passive lower extremity exoskeletons can also reduce the energy consumption of human locomotion, but the energy saving is still relatively small compared with the total consumption. Methods A passive lower limb exoskeleton named Multi-Resiliency was described, and design parameters were estimated based on inverse dynamics. Furthermore, a series of experiments was designed for assessing the assisting effect of the exoskeleton in uphill walking and upstairs activities. Results In the inverse dynamics analysis, the spring release angle θmax was confirmed to be 45° for increasing assist performance of the exoskeleton. In the exoskeleton wearing experiments, the energy expenditure of subjects were decreased by 14.3% in uphill walking test and 16.0% in stair climbing test respectively. Conclusion The results show that the design of Multi-Resiliency exoskeleton is reasonable and it may effectively improve walking efficiency during uphill walking and stair climbing activities.

This paper presents a triangular-lattice photonic crystal fiber for broadband dispersion compensation. The finite element method with perfectly matched absorbing layers boundary condition is used to investigate the guiding properties. The designed dispersion compensating fiber shows that it is possible to obtain a larger negative dispersion coefficient of ?360 ps/(nm.km) at 1.55 ?m, better dispersion slope compensation, better compensation ratio in the entire telecommunication (1460-1640 nm) band by using a modest number of design parameters and very simple cladding design.
