Aluminum alloys are the most important part of all shaped castings manufactured, especially in the aerospace and automotive industries. This work focuses on the corrosion properties of the heat-hardening aluminum alloys commonly used for production of automotive castings AlSi7Mg0.3 and on self-hardening AlZn10Si8Mg. Iron is a common impurity in aluminum cast alloy and its content increases by using secondary aluminum alloys. Therefore, experimental materials were developed, with chemical composition according to standards (primary alloys) and in states with an increasing content of Fe. The experimental aluminum alloys are briefly discussed in terms of their chemical composition, microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion behavior. Corrosion properties were examined using three types of corrosion tests: exposure test, potentiodynamic tests, and Audi tests. Corrosion characteristics of materials were evaluated using stereo, optical and scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, too. Correlation of pit initiation sites with microstructural features revealed the critical role of iron-rich phases, silicon particles and corresponding alloy matrix.

Abstract Additively manufactured (AM) AlSi10Mg is one of the most studied AM aluminium alloys to date. While several studies have focused on investigating its mechanical properties and corrosion performance, very little work has been dedicated to study corrosion protection mechanisms and surface treatments applicable for this material. This work presents for the first time an analysis of the mechanism of Zr electrochemical conversion on AM AlSi10Mg parts. A comparison with the conventional cast alloy was also conducted. An analysis of the specimens using SEM/EDS provided interesting insights concerning the effect of the microstructure on the deposition of the Zr conversion layer. This work demonstrates that due to the very fine microstructure and distribution of alloying elements in AM AlSi10Mg, a homogeneous deposition of the Zr conversion layer is promoted. Conversely, the cast alloy is characterized by a very heterogeneous deposition of the Zr conversion layer due to the presence of relatively large Fe-containing intermetallic particles. The influence of the conversion coating on the corrosion performance of these materials was also studied. The results show that while the conversion treatment has no impact on the corrosion resistance of the cast alloy, it greatly improves the passivity of the AM AlSi10Mg samples.

This work presents mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of duplex stainless steels obtained through powder metallurgy starting from austenitic X2CrNiMo17-12-2 (AISI 316L), martensitic X6Cr13 (AISI 410L) powders by controlled addition of alloying elements in the proper quantity to obtain the chemical composition of the structure similar to biphasic one. In the mixes preparations the Schaffler’s diagram was taken into consideration. Prepared mixes of powders have been sintered in a vacuum furnace with argon backfilling. After sintering rapid cooling was applied using nitrogen. Produced duplex stainless steels have been studied by SEM with EDS and light optical microscopy (LOM) and X-rays analysis to determine obtained structures. Corrosion properties have been studied through electrochemical methods in 1M NaCl.

Abstract At temperatures below 5°C, the ductility of ZnCuTi alloy sheets is observed to suffer a drastic drop in direction transverse to the rolling direction. Studies have shown that the critical temperature at which this phenomenon occurs is strongly dependent on the alloy structure and parameters of the sheet metal production process. Quite important is also the role of micro-inhomogeneity arising in the chemical composition of the alloy matrix, directly related with the structure of intermetallic precipitates containing Cu and Ti.

AbstractRecent prevalence estimates for autism have been alarming as a function of the notable increase. Speech-language pathologists play a critical role in screening, assessment and intervention for children with autism. This article reviews signs that may be indicative of autism at different stages of language development, and discusses the importance of several psychometric properties—sensitivity and specificity—in utilizing screening measures for children with autism. Critical components of assessment for children with autism are reviewed. This article concludes with examples of intervention targets for children with ASD at various levels of language development.
