In this paper, we present an application of Dirac’s factorization method to three types of the partial differential equations, i.e., the wave equation, the scattering equation, and the telegrapher’s equation. This method gives results that contribute to a better understanding of physical phenomena by generalizing the Euler and constituent equations. Its application to the wave equation shows that it is indeed a factorization method, since it gives d’Alembert’s solutions in a more general framework. In the case of the diffusion equation, a fractional differential equation has been established that has already been highlighted by other authors in particular cases, but by indirect methods. Dirac’s method brings several new results in the case of the telegraphers’ equation corresponding to the propagation of an acoustic wave in a dissipative fluid. On the one hand, its formalism facilitates the temporal interpretation of phenomena, in particular the density and compressibility of the fluid become temporal operators, which can be “seen” as susceptibilities of the fluid. On the other hand, a consequence of this temporal modeling is the highlighting in Euler’s equation of a term similar to the one that was introduced by Boussinesq and Basset in the equation of the motion of a solid sphere in a unsteady fluid.

In the last few years, several quantum algorithms that try to address the problem of partial differential equation solving have been devised: on the one hand, “direct” quantum algorithms that aim at encoding the solution of the PDE by executing one large quantum circuit; on the other hand, variational algorithms that approximate the solution of the PDE by executing several small quantum circuits and making profit of classical optimisers. In this work, we propose an experimental study of the costs (in terms of gate number and execution time on a idealised hardware created from realistic gate data) associated with one of the “direct” quantum algorithm: the wave equation solver devised in [32]. We show that our implementation of the quantum wave equation solver agrees with the theoretical big-O complexity of the algorithm. We also explain in great detail the implementation steps and discuss some possibilities of improvements. Finally, our implementation proves experimentally that some PDE can be solved on a quantum computer, even if the direct quantum algorithm chosen will require error-corrected quantum chips, which are not believed to be available in the short-term.

AbstractThis work aims to study the influence of the rotation on a thermoelastic solid sphere in the context of the hyperbolic two-temperature generalized thermoelasticity theory based on the mechanical damage consideration. Therefore, a mathematical model of thermoelastic, homogenous, and isotropic solid sphere with a rotation based on the mechanical damage definition has been constructed. The governing equations have been written in the context of hyperbolic two-temperature generalized thermoelasticity theory. The bounding surface of the sphere is thermally shocked and without volumetric deformation. The singularities of the studied functions at the center of the sphere have been deleted using L’Hopital’s rule. The numerical results have been represented graphically with various mechanical damage values, two-temperature parameters, and rotation parameter values. The two-temperature parameter has significant effects on all the studied functions. Damage and rotation have a major impact on deformation, displacement, stress, and stress–strain energy, while their effects on conductive and dynamical temperature rise are minimal. The thermal and mechanical waves propagate with finite speeds on the thermoelastic body in the hyperbolic two-temperature theory and the one-temperature theory (Lord-Shulman model).

We introduce the wave equation in fractal vibrating string in the framework of the local fractional calculus. Our particular attention is devoted to the technique of the local fractional Fourier series for processing these local fractional differential operators in a way accessible to applied scientists. By applying this technique we derive the local fractional Fourier series solution of the local fractional wave equation in fractal vibrating string and show the fundamental role of the Mittag-Leffler function.

Compared with investing an ordinary options, investing the power options may possibly yield greater returns. On the one hand, the power option is the best choice for those who want to maximize the leverage of the underlying market movements. On the other hand, power options can also prevent the financial market changes caused by the sharp fluctuations of the underlying assets. In this paper, we investigate the power option pricing problem in which the price of the underlying asset follows the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck type of model involving an uncertain fractional differential equation. Based on critical value criterion, the pricing formulas of European power options are derived. Finally, some numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the results.

This paper discusses the stair function approach for the generation of scroll grid attractors of fractional differential systems. The one-directional (1-D) n-grid scroll, two-directional (2-D) (n × m)-grid scroll and three-directional (3-D) (n × m × l)-grid scroll attractors are created from a fractional linear autonomous system with a simple stair function controller. Being similar to the scroll grid attractors of classical differential systems, the scrolls of 1-D n-grid scroll, 2-D (n × m)-grid scroll and 3-D (n × m × l)-grid scroll attractors are located around the equilibria of fractional differential system on a line, on a plane or in 3D, respectively and the number of scrolls is equal to the corresponding number of equilibria.

The term scholar, as current in the English language, has two extreme acceptations, tyro and proficient; or what the later Greeks fancifully termed the alpha and omega of acquirement. If we attempt to trace the steps by which even the adult student of any especial branch of professional or literary knowledge has fairly passed the boundary defined by the one meaning in passing on to that position denoted by the other, it will commonly be found, that in place of that lucid order, that straight line from point to point, which theory and resolve generally premise, the real order of acquirement has been desultory—the real line of progression, circuitous and uncertain.

In this article, we study the classical solution of the mixed problem in a quarter of a plane and a half-plane for a one-dimensional wave equation. On the bottom of the boundary, Cauchy conditions are specified, and the second of them has a discontinuity of the first kind at one point. Smooth boundary condition is set at the side boundary. The solution is built using the method of characteristics in an explicit analytical form. Uniqueness is proved and conditions are established under which a piecewise-smooth solution exists. The problem with linking conditions is considered.

In this study, new extended direct algebraic method is successfully implemented to acquire new exact wave solution sets for symmetric regularized-long-wave (SRLW) equation which arise in long water flow models. By the help of Mathematica symbolic calculation package, the method produced a great number of analytical solutions. We also presented a few graphical illustrations for some surfaces. The fractional derivatives are considered in the conformable sense. All of the solutions were checked by substitution to ensure the reliability of the method. Obtained results confirm that the method is straightforward, powerful and effective method to attain exact solutions for nonlinear fractional differential equations. Therefore, the method is a good candidate to take part in the existing literature.
