In the present paper, we consider multigrid strategies for the resolution of linear systems arising from the Q k Finite Elements approximation of one- and higher-dimensional elliptic partial differential equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions and where the operator is div − a ( x ) ∇ · , with a continuous and positive over Ω ¯ , Ω being an open and bounded subset of R 2 . While the analysis is performed in one dimension, the numerics are carried out also in higher dimension d ≥ 2 , showing an optimal behavior in terms of the dependency on the matrix size and a substantial robustness with respect to the dimensionality d and to the polynomial degree k.

In this study, a new modified group iterative scheme for solving the two-dimensional (2D) fractional hyperbolic telegraph differential equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions is obtained from the 2h-spaced standard and rotated Crank–Nicolson FD approximations. The findings of new four-point modified explicit group relaxation method demonstrates the rapid rate of convergence of proposed method as compared to the existing schemes. Numerical tests are performed to test the capability of the group iterative scheme in comparison with the point iterative scheme counterparts. The stability of the derived modified group method is proven by the matrix norm algorithm. The obtained results are tabulated and concluded that exact solutions are exactly symmetric with approximate solutions.

In this paper, we consider a quasi-linear stochastic heat equation in one dimension on [0, 1], with Dirichlet boundary conditions driven by an additive fractional white noise. We formally replace the random perturbation by a family of noisy inputs depending on a parameter n ∈ ℕ which can approximate the fractional noise in some sense. Then, we provide sufficient conditions ensuring that the real-valued mild solution of the SPDE perturbed by this family of noises converges in law, in the space [Formula: see text] of continuous functions, to the solution of the fractional noise driven SPDE.

The aim of this article is to study the existence of positive weak solution for a quasilinear reaction-diffusion system with Dirichlet boundary conditions,− div(|∇u1|p1−2∇u1) = λu1α11u2α12... unα1n,   x ∈ Ω,− div(|∇u2|p2−2∇u2) = λu1α21u2α22... unα2n,   x ∈ Ω, ... , − div(|∇un|pn−2∇un) = λu1αn1u2αn2... unαnn,   x ∈ Ω,ui = 0,   x ∈ ∂Ω,   i = 1, 2, ..., n,  where λ is a positive parameter, Ω is a bounded domain in RN (N > 1) with smooth boundary ∂Ω. In addition, we assume that 1 < pi < N for i = 1, 2, ..., n. For λ large by applying the method of sub-super solutions the existence of a large positive weak solution is established for the above nonlinear elliptic system.

Abstract We find the most general solution to Chern-Simons AdS3 gravity in Fefferman-Graham gauge. The connections are equivalent to geometries that have a non-trivial curved boundary, characterized by a 2-dimensional vielbein and a spin connection. We define a variational principle for Dirichlet boundary conditions and find the boundary stress tensor in the Chern-Simons formalism. Using this variational principle as the departure point, we show how to treat other choices of boundary conditions in this formalism, such as, including the mixed boundary conditions corresponding to a $$ T\overline{T} $$ T T ¯ -deformation.

Abstract The gravitational charge algebra of generic asymptotically locally (A)dS spacetimes is derived in n dimensions. The analysis is performed in the Starobinsky/Fefferman-Graham gauge, without assuming any further boundary condition than the minimal falloffs for conformal compactification. In particular, the boundary structure is allowed to fluctuate and plays the role of source yielding some symplectic flux at the boundary. Using the holographic renormalization procedure, the divergences are removed from the symplectic structure, which leads to finite expressions. The charges associated with boundary diffeomorphisms are generically non-vanishing, non-integrable and not conserved, while those associated with boundary Weyl rescalings are non-vanishing only in odd dimensions due to the presence of Weyl anomalies in the dual theory. The charge algebra exhibits a field-dependent 2-cocycle in odd dimensions. When the general framework is restricted to three-dimensional asymptotically AdS spacetimes with Dirichlet boundary conditions, the 2-cocycle reduces to the Brown-Henneaux central extension. The analysis is also specified to leaky boundary conditions in asymptotically locally (A)dS spacetimes that lead to the Λ-BMS asymptotic symmetry group. In the flat limit, the latter contracts into the BMS group in n dimensions.

Abstract The Kaluza-Klein (KK) decomposition of higher-dimensional gravity gives rise to a tower of KK-gravitons in the effective four-dimensional (4D) theory. Such massive spin-2 fields are known to be connected with unitarity issues and easily lead to a breakdown of the effective theory well below the naive scale of the interaction. However, the breakdown of the effective 4D theory is expected to be controlled by the parameters of the 5D theory. Working in a simplified Randall-Sundrum model we study the matrix elements for matter annihilations into massive gravitons. We find that truncating the KK-tower leads to an early breakdown of perturbative unitarity. However, by considering the full tower we obtain a set of sum rules for the couplings between the different KK-fields that restore unitarity up to the scale of the 5D theory. We prove analytically that these are fulfilled in the model under consideration and present numerical tests of their convergence. This work complements earlier studies that focused on graviton self-interactions and yields additional sum rules that are required if matter fields are incorporated into warped extra-dimensions.

Abstract In the present paper, a class of fourth-order nonlinear difference equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions or periodic boundary conditions are considered. Based on the invariant sets of descending flow in combination with the mountain pass lemma, we establish a series of sufficient conditions on the existence of multiple solutions for these boundary value problems. In addition, some examples are provided to demonstrate the applicability of our results.
