Thin and single MoS2 flakes are envisioned to contribute to the flexible nanoelectronics, particularly in sensing, optoelectronics and energy harvesting. Thus, it is important to study their stability and local surface reactivity. Their most straightforward surface reactions in this context pertain to thermally induced interactions with atmospheric oxygen. This review focuses on local and thermally induced interactions of MoS2 crystals and single MoS2 flakes. First, experimentally observed data for oxygen-mediated thermally induced morphological and chemical changes of the MoS2 crystals and single MoS2 flakes are presented. Second, state-of-the-art mechanistic insight from computer simulations and arising open questions are discussed. Finally, the properties and fate of the Mo oxides arising from thermal oxidation are reviewed, and future directions into the research of the local MoS2/MoOx interface are provided.

Abstract. A large number of intense cyclones occur every year in the Mediterranean basin, one of the climate change hotspots. Producing a broad range of severe socio-economic and environmental impacts in such a densely populated region, Mediterranean cyclones call for coordinated and interdisciplinary research efforts. This article aims at supporting these efforts by reviewing the status of knowledge in the broad field of Mediterranean cyclones. First, we focus on the dynamics and atmospheric processes that govern the genesis and development of Mediterranean cyclones. Then, we review the state of the art in forecasting cyclones and relevant high-impact weather. Particular attention is given to Mediterranean cyclone tracks and their physical characteristics in current and future climate. Finally, we focus on the impacts produced by cyclones and we outline the future directions of research that would advance the broader field of Mediterranean cyclones as a whole.

Abstract. Psychotherapy is an effective treatment for most mental disorders, including anxiety disorders. Successful psychotherapy implies new learning experiences and therefore neural alterations. With the increasing availability of functional neuroimaging methods, it has become possible to investigate psychotherapeutically induced neuronal plasticity across the whole brain in controlled studies. However, the detectable effects strongly depend on neuroscientific methods, experimental paradigms, analytical strategies, and sample characteristics. This article summarizes the state of the art, discusses current theoretical and methodological issues, and suggests future directions of the research on the neurobiology of psychotherapy in anxiety disorders.

Covalently bonded organic monolayers play important roles in defining the solution processability, ambient stability, and electronic properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials such as Ge nanosheets (GeNSs); they also hold promise of providing avenues for the fabrication of future generation electronic and optical devices. Functionalization of GeNS normally involves surface moieties linked through covalent Ge−C bonds. In the present contribution we extend the scope of surface linkages to include Si−Ge bonding and present the first demonstration of heteronuclear dehydrocoupling of organosilanes to hydride-terminated GeNSs obtained from the deintercalation and exfoliation of CaGe2. We further exploit this new surface reactivity and demonstrated the preparation of directly bonded silicon quantum dot-Ge nanosheet hybrids.

The zeolitic imidazolate frameworks ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 harbour a series of fascinating stimuli responsive properties. Looking at their responsitivity to hydrostatic pressure as stimulus, open questions exist regarding the isotropic compression with non-penetrating pressure transmitting media. By applying a state-of-the-art high-pressure powder X-ray diffraction setup, we revisit the high-pressure behaviour of ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 up to p = 0.4 GPa in small pressure increments. We observe a drastic, reversible change of high-pressure powder X-ray diffraction data at p = 0.3 GPa, discovering large volume structural flexibility in ZIF-8 and ZIF-67. Our results imply a shallow underlying energy landscape in ZIF-8 and ZIF-67, an observation that might point at rich polymorphism of ZIF-8 and ZIF-67, similar to ZIF-4(Zn).
