A green and sustainable route for preparation of hydrochars from cornstalk by hydrothermal carbonization (200°C) was described. The morphology of the hydrochars changed with reaction time increased, the surface of the materials contained a large number of functional groups, showed higher adsorption capacity for Cr (VI) than activated carbon and the removal rates of Cr (VI) were 67% and 29% respectively (pH=1, 20°C).

Oxygenated fuel additives are added to gasoline in order to reduce the gases released from vehicle engines, to increase the octane number, and to expand the use of renewable resources. In this study, molecular and geometric analysis of oxygenated fuel additives was conducted theoretically and the energy values of optimized structures were calculated. The effect of molecular energy and the bond structure between C, H and O on the chemical and physical properties of some oxygen fuel additives were investigated. The obtained results will form the basis for future studies in obtaining more environmentally friendly fuels.

Energy markets with high penetration rates of renewables are more likely to face price fluctuations or volatility, which is in part due to the stochastic nature of renewables. Latvia's electricity market is an excellent example of such a market, as more than 40% of Latvia's electricity generation comes from hydropower, which challenges the projected spot electricity prices for Latvia's electricity market. The article identifies trends in the natural and value indicators of total exports, imports, total currency turnover and electricity consumption in Latvia with a more detailed study of the characteristics and trends of electricity consumption indicators from renewable resources for the period 2014, 2015 - 2019. In addition, wind power utilization rates were considered both for the observed period as a whole and on a monthly basis for 2019. In general, the results of the study confirm the feasibility of Latvia's plans to increase both total electricity consumption and its share from renewable sources. At the same time, the coronavirus pandemic has already begun to lead to negative consequences for electricity consumption in EU countries, which have so far affected Latvia to a lesser extent. Nevertheless, these consequences will inevitably lead to an adjustment of Latvia's electricity plans towards an increase in the share of production and consumption of electricity from renewable sources, including wind energy, despite its upward price trend. The author with employment of the tools Excel Trendline obtains trends of indicators, approximating formulae dependencies and the coefficients of determination for the relevant diagrams and charts.

Non-renewable fossil fuels and the air pollution associated with their combustion have made it necessary to develop fuels that are environmentally friendly and produced from renewable sources. In addition, global warming and climate change have brought to the attention of many countries the need to develop programs and reforms, such as the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations and the European Green Deal, that finance and promote the conversion of all socio-economic activities in favor of sustainable and environmentally friendly development. These major projects include the development of non-polluting biofuels derived from renewable sources. Vegetable oils are a renewable source widely used to produce biofuels due to their high energy density and similar chemical composition to petroleum derivatives, making them the perfect feedstock for biofuel production. Green diesel and other hydrocarbon biofuels, obtained by the catalytic deoxygenation of vegetable oils, represent a sustainable alternative to mineral diesel, as they have physico-chemical properties similar to derived oil fuels. The catalyst, temperature, hydrogen pressure, and the type of vegetable oil can influence the type of biofuel obtained and its properties. The main aspects discussed in this review include the influence of the catalyst and reaction conditions on the catalytic deoxygenation reaction.
