The research focused on materials having potential applications in technology of planar evanescent wave sensors. Four samples of binary SiO2:TiO2 thin films having different titania content were manufactured through the sol-gel method and dip-coating technique on polished silicon substrates. The samples were subjected to repeated heating/cooling protocols. Simultaneously, their optical parameters were monitored by spectroscopic ellipsometry as they evolved under varying temperature. Subsequent analysis confirmed linear dependence of refractive index on titania content, at least in vis-NIR wavelengths, as well as a low value of the thermal expansion coefficient. It was shown that the thickness of SiO2:TiO2 films decreased as a result of annealing processes, which may be a consequence of reduced porosity.

Ti1−XSbXO2 samples were obtained from dip-coating sol-gel method and a subsequent anneal at 450 °C. They had an average crystallite size of 13.3–20 nm. Cyclic voltammograms taken under ultraviolet (UV) and Xe lamp illumination in a 0.5 M Na2SO4 electrolyte showed that the Sb-doped samples had greater photocurrent densities than pure titania electrode, with an optimal Sb concentration of 0.2%. Oxidative peaks were observed in the cyclic voltammograms obtained in the dark after certain exposure duration to UV light. X-ray diffraction patterns and Raman spectra show a phase transformation from brookite to anatase in the samples with Sb concentration up to 0.2%. Ti4+ ions were substituted by Sb to form the anatase structure of Sb–O–Ti, improving the crystallization efficiency. The Sb–Sb bonds were formed due to the introduction of excessive Sb atoms.

La–doped TiO2 thin films were synthesized using TTIP, IPA , Acetic acid ,and La2¬O3 as precursors by sol-gel method and dip-coating method. The different molar raitos of La/Ti ( 0.025,0.050,0.075 and 0.100 ) were supported on ITO glass to product photocatalytic electrodes. The properties of both TiO2/ITO and La- TiO2/ITO photocatalytic electrodes were characterized by FE-SEM,BET and XRD. The FE-SEM and BET analytical results demonstrate that La-TiO2/ITO particles have uniform shape and small size (<10nm ) compared with TiO2/ITO. Anotherway, the XRD resultes show that when more molar raitos of La/Ti the crystallites become more percent to of rutile. The La-TiO2/ITO photocatalytic electrode with molar raito 0.05 shows the best photocatalysis with mineralization rate after four hours reaction. On this condition, different Acid Yellow 17 initial concentration and UV light intensity have been research. Applied potential 2.0V would effectively increase the decolonization rate under visible light irradiation.

Within the framework of the study, TiO2 coatings were obtained by sol-gel method via dip-coating. For the films obtaining, manual drawing the substrate from the solution at a relatively high rate of 30 mm / min and automated drawing from the solution at low drawing rates (from 1 to 10 mm / min) were used. The morphology of coatings has been studied by scanning electron microscopy. The influence of the mode and the rate of drawing of the substrate from the solution on the films morphology was demonstrated. Analysis of the data showed, that the surface morphology of the coatings obtained at lower drawing rates by an automated method is much more homogeneous - the titanium dioxide films completely repeats the topography of the substrate surface, there are practically no fissures. Qualitative coatings of titanium dioxide, completely replicating the surface relief of the substrate, can be obtained by this method. Selection of the substrate drawing rate allows reducing the influence of the substrate topography and avoiding the appearance of crystallization centers, and as a consequence, the appearance of defects in the morphology of coatings, such as fissures or microparticles.
