In recent years, numerous protocols for nanoplatelet synthesis have been developed. Here, we present a facile, one-pot method for controlling cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles’ shape that allows for obtaining zero-dimensional, one-dimensional, or two-dimensional structures. The proposed synthesis protocol is a simple heating-up approach and does not involve any inconvenient steps such as injection and/or pouring the precursors at elevated temperatures. Because of this, the synthesis protocol is highly repeatable. A gradual increase in the zinc acetate concentration causes the particles’ shape to undergo a transition from isotropic quantum dots through rods to highly anisotropic nanoplatelets. We identified conditions at which synthesized platelets were purely five monolayers thick. All samples acquired during different stages of the reaction were characterized via optical spectroscopy, which allowed for the identification of the presence of high-temperature, magic-size clusters prior to the platelets’ formation.

A novel infinite one-dimensional silver cylinder, namely poly[μ-ethylenediamine-μ5-(2-sulfanidylbenzoato)-μ4-(2-sulfanidylbenzoato)-tetrasilver(I)], [Ag4(C7H4O2S)2(C2H8N2)]n, has been synthesized by one-pot reaction of equivalent molar silver nitrate and 2-mercaptobenzoic acid (H2mba) in the presence of ethylenediamine (eda). One Ag atom is located in an AgS2NO four-coordinated tetrahedral geometry, two other Ag atoms are in an AgS2O three-coordinated T-shaped geometry and the fourth Ag atom is in an AgSNO coordination environment. The two mba ligands show two different binding modes. The μ2-N:N′-eda ligand, acting as a bridge, combines with mba ligands to extend the AgIions into a one-dimensional silver cylinder incorporating abundant Ag...Ag interactions ranging from 2.9298 (11) to 3.2165 (13) Å. Interchain N—H...O hydrogen bonds extend the one-dimensional cylinder into an undulating two-dimensional sheet, which is further packed into a three-dimensional supramolecular framework by van der Waals interactions; no π–π interactions were observed in the crystal structure.

Aryl-substituted triazolohexahydroquinazolines have been synthesized by means of three-component condensation of pnitro(pbromo) benzaldehydes, cyclohexanone, 1,2,4-triazol-3-amine. A scheme of the reaction mechanism is proposed, which makes it possible to explain the features of the behavior of p-nitro(bromo) benzaldehydes in condensation reactions in comparison with their ortho-substituted analogs. It has been found that the movement of the substituent from the ortho- tо -para-position of the benzene ring while maintaining the general direction of the reaction has a decisive effect on the number and ratio of the formed isomers and leads to the absence of hydroxylated forms of triazolohexahydroquinazolines. The composition and structure of the products have been confirmed by the data of elemental analysis, IR and one-dimensional, two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. One-pot synthesis of aryl-substituted triazohexahydroquinazolines is a non-selective process that leads to a mixture of isomers, the structure and ratio of which is determined by the nature and position of the substituent groups in the aldehyde component.

“Dynamical mixing”, i.e. relaxation of a stellar phase space distribution through interaction with the mean gravitational field, is numerically investigated for a one-dimensional self-gravitating stellar gas. Qualitative results are presented in the form of a motion picture of the flow of phase points (representing homogeneous slabs of stars) in two-dimensional phase space.

The state-of-the-art of surface water impoundment modeling is examined from the viewpoints of both hydrodynamics and water quality. In the area of hydrodynamics current one dimensional integral energy and two dimensional models are discussed. In the area of water quality, the formulations used for various parameters are presented with a range of values for the associated rate coefficients.

Formation of gas hydrates under shock wave impact on bubble media (two-dimensional case) The dynamics of plane one-dimensional shock waves applied to the available experimental data for the water–freon media is studied on the base of the theoretical model of the bubble liquid improved with taking into account possible hydrate formation. The scheme of accounting of the bubble crushing in a shock wave that is one of the main factors in the hydrate formation intensification with increasing shock wave amplitude is proposed.

Numerical investigation of efficiency of UNO- and TVD-modifications of the Godunov method of the second order accuracy for computation of linear waves in an elastic body in comparison with the classical Godunov method is carried out. To this end, one-dimensional cylindrical Riemann problems are considered. It is shown that the both modifications are considerably more accurate in describing radially converging as well as diverging longitudinal and shear waves and contact discontinuities both in one- and two-dimensional problem statements. At that the UNO-modification is more preferable than the TVD-modification because exact implementation of the TVD property in the TVD-modification is reached at the expense of “cutting” solution extrema.

The two-dimensional and two-phase model of the gas-liquid mixture is constructed. The validity of numerical model realization is justified by using a comparative analysis of test problems solution with one-dimensional calculations. The regularities of gas-saturated liquid outflow from axisymmetric vessels for different geometries are established.
