The previous study conducted on the as-cast Mg-2Y-1Zn-0.6Zr alloy showed that the tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of the as-cast alloy were 245 MPa, 135 MPa and 14.4%, respectively. In order to further explore the potential of the material, the hot extrusion process of variable temperature (250 °C, 300 °C and 350 °C) was carried out on the basis of the as-cast alloy. After hot extrusion, the mechanical properties of the material have been greatly improved compared with as-cast alloy. The tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of the extruded alloy reached 327 MPa, 322 MPa and 24.9%, respectively. The reason for the significant improvement of material properties is mainly due to the dynamic recrystallization during thermal processing, which greatly fines the grains of as-cast alloy. Moreover, the experimental results shown that the corrosion performance of the alloy after hot extrusion at 300 °C is also optimal.

Homogenized magnesium alloy Mg-6Zn-Si-0.25Ca has been hot-extruded and then aging treated for improving the magnesium alloy plastic deformation ability and promoting applications of magnesium alloys. In the hot extrusion process, the influences of extrusion parameters for microstructures and mechanical properties of Mg-6Zn-Si-0.25Ca magnesium alloy were investigated. The results show that dynamic recrystallization occurred during hot extrusion. Compared with as-cast alloy, the grains are fined remarkably, and the mechanical properties are enhanced obviously. Twin crystals appeared in grains after hot extrusion, with the extrusion temperature rising, twin crystal structures has been reduced. Aging further increased the mechanical properties of the estruded alloy. The ultimate tensile strength of Mg-6Zn-Si-0.25Ca alloy is about 385 MPa and the elongation is about 11% when extruded at 320°C(extrusion ratio is 10) and aged at 190°C for 8h.

A novel microalloyed Mg–3Al–0.5Mn–0.5Sr (AMJ300) alloy was designed and prepared. Then the original structure of as-cast alloy was optimized by hot extrusion. The influence of extrusion on microstructure, corrosion and tensile properties of as-cast AMJ300 alloy were studied by OM, SEM, EDS, XRD, TEM, electrochemical workstation and tensile tests. The results indicated that α-Mg, Al8Mn5 and Al4Sr phases constitute the AMJ300 alloy. Furthermore, the microstructure of alloy was further refined after extrusion, which indicates that the microstructural evolution during extrusion was governed by dynamic recrystallization. The fine and close of structure and the morphology change of intermetallic compounds greatly improved the corrosion resistance of AMJ300 alloy. The results of corrosion rate, corrosion current and corrosion morphology showed that the corrosion resistance of as-cast alloy could be significantly improved by extrusion. The main corrosion products of AMJ300 alloy in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution was Mg(OH)2. After extrusion, the tensile properties of AMJ300 alloy was significantly improved. The tensile strength reached 349 MPa, the yield strength reached 229 MPa, and the elongation reached 13.2%. Compared with the as-cast alloy, the tensile strength, the yield strength and the elongation increased by 218.1%, 248.9% and 173.7% respectively

The paper describes the mechanical and corrosion properties of three heat treatable extruded Al-Mg-Si aluminum alloys. The alloys were tested as T5 tempered (air-quenched directly on the press and artificially aged) after processing by the extrusion of semi-continuous cast and homogenized billets. The addition of small amounts of zirconium and manganese in the base AIMgSiO.7 alloy increased the strength, reaching 310 MPa of tensile strength and increased the corrosion rate by 15% in aqueous sodium chloride solution.

The microstructures, phase constitutions and mechanical properties of as-cast samples, extruded rods and plates of Mg-3.52Sn-3.32Al and Mg-6.54Sn-4.78Al alloys were investigated by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and mechanical testing. The results show that as-cast microstructure consists of α-Mg matrix, Mg2Sn and a few dispersed β-Mg17Al12 phases. The two as-cast alloys exhibit good tensile mechanical properties. After hot extrusion, dynamic recrystallization occurs. Average grain size reaches 6 μm ~ 8 μm for rods, and a lot of fine micro-scaled particles exist, resulting in significant enhancement of tensile mechanical properties. The extruded Mg-3.52Sn-3.32Al rod exhibits better comprehensive tensile mechanical property than AZ31B alloy, with tensile strength σb of 295 MPa, yield strength of 200 MPa and elongation of 21.5% at ambient temperature. The extruded Mg-6.54Sn-4.78Al rod exhibits equivalent comprehensive tensile mechanical properties with ZK60 alloy, achieving tensile strength of 355 MPa, yield strength of 275 MPa and elongation of 11% at ambient temperature. The extruded plates at ambient temperature performed a tensile strength of 270 MPa.

In the present study, Ni50Ti50 (NiTi) particle reinforced aluminum nanocomposites were fabricated using microwave sintering and subsequently hot extrusion. The effect of NiTi (0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 vol %) content on the microstructural, mechanical, thermal, and damping properties of the extruded Al-NiTi nanocomposites was studied. Compared to the unreinforced aluminum, hardness, ultimate compression/tensile strength and yield strength increased by 105%, 46%, 45%, and 41% while elongation and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) decreased by 49% and 22%, respectively. The fabricated Al-1.5 NiTi nanocomposite exhibited significantly higher damping capacity (3.23 × 10−4) and elastic modulus (78.48 ± 0.008 GPa) when compared to pure Al.

Produced Profiles by direct recycling of aluminum chips in hot extrusion process were achieved by temperature related parameters using preheating temperature 450 °C, 500 °C, and 550 °C for duration 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours preheating time. By using Design of Experiments (DOE) procedure with full factorial design and three center points analysis, the results showed that the preheating temperature factor is more important to be controlled rather than the preheating duration and increase of temperature conducted to the high tensile strength. The profiles extruded at 550 °C and 3 hours’ duration had obtained the optimum condition to get the maximum tensile strength. The influence of parameters of hot extrusion process on fracture surfaces of the recycled samples was also investigated and discussed.

In the dissertation the influence of overheating of around 250oC above Tliq on the material reliability of AlSi17Cu5 cast alloy has been shown. On the basis of static tensile test, the following had been determined: HB hardness, tensile strength and yield strength for four, chosen technological variants. The results were the base to verify the thesis of compliance between tested feature arrangement and normal arrangement, and on this ground also material reliability determined with Weibull’s statistic arrangement had been defined. This parameter grasp the interdependence between lasting probability and chosen material property of the alloy.

In this paper, the effects of hot extrusion and T5、T6 heat treatment on the microstructures and mechanical properties of ZK60 magnesium alloys are investigated by optical microscope, electronic scanning microscope and mechanical testers. The result shows that both the tensile strength and the elongation of the ZK60 alloy extruded at 380°Care much higher than that of the as-cast alloys, as there are much granular second phases precipitated during the extrusion. The tensile strength of the extruded and T5 treated alloy increases while the elongation decreases faster than that of the extruded alloy. The strengthening effect of the T6 treatment is inferior to that of the T5 treatment. The tensile fracture of the as-cast alloy is brittle fractured while that of the extruded and T5 treated alloy is ductile fractured with lots of deep and even dimples.
