The tests included the determination of the reinforcement effectiveness of old larch timber originating from a building built in 1860 with the use of carbon-fibre and aramid-fibre mats and strips, BFRPs and GFRPs. The test results showed that in old solid timber pieces from European larch (Larix decidua Mill.), the highest mean flexural bending capacity occurred in samples reinforced with carbon-fibre mats (increase in flexural bending capacity was 60.66% in relation to non-reinforced elements), while the lowest flexural bending capacity of the tested components occurred with reinforcement with GFRP (10 mm in diameter) (increase by only 19.04% in relation to non-reinforced elements). Additionally, bending tests of repaired 130-year-old pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) beams were shown (real-size scale) using CFRP strips and mats. The problems associated with the delamination of the CFRP strip due to uneven deformation of the damaged timber surface and the effectiveness of these repairs are also shown.

Steel stranded wire mesh and polymer mortar (SMPM) is a novel technique recently developed for structural strengthening. To investigate the feasibility of strengthening reinforced concrete (RC) bridge box-girders with SMPM, bending tests on three scaled RC box-girders were made, based on which formulas for predicting the bending and debonding capacities of the strengthened RC box-girders are proposed. First, the box section is represented by the T section using the effective width factor in the elastoplastic stage. Then, based on the equivalent height of compressive region, bending failure modes of the strengthened girders are classified, and equations regarding the ultimate bending capacity corresponding to each failure mode are established respectively. To account for the debonding failure observed in the tests, a shear-capacity-based model is proposed. Comparison was made between the analytical and existing test results.

Abstract This paper deals with the determination of compressive strength of concrete. Cubes, cylinders and re-used test beams were tested. The concrete beams were first subjected to three-point or fourpoint bending tests and then used for determination of the compressive strength of concrete. Some concrete beams were reinforced, while others had no reinforcement. Accuracy of the experiments and calculations was verified in a non-linear analysis.

System strength is an important concept in the integration of renewable energy sources (RESs). However, evaluating system strength is becoming more ambiguous due to the interaction of RESs. This paper proposes a novel scheme to define the actual interaction boundaries of RESs using the power flow tracing strategy. Based on the proposed method, the interaction boundaries of RESs were identified at the southwest side of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) systems. The test results show that the proposed approach always provides the identical interaction boundaries of RESs in KEPCO systems, compared to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) method. The consistent boundaries could be a guideline for power-system planners to assess more accurate system strength, considering the actual interactions of the RESs.

In order to solve the serious damage and repeat revision problem of high stress soft rock roadway in deep -950 level of Tangshan coal mine, based on the theory of the maximum stress level, together with the actual measurement of geostress and the laboratory mechanical parameters of rock-core and computer numerical simulation, the high strength combined support technology and supporting parameters are determined and the engineering test has been done. The engineering test results show that the parameter determination of high strength combined support technology, which based on the actual measurement of geostress, can effective solve the support issue of high stress soft rock roadway and provide useful experience for similar engineering problems.
