This study carried out a novel duplex surface treatment on aluminum alloy base to explore the potential improvement of wear and corrosion resistance. Regular arrayed dimple surface texture (DST) and groove surface texture (GST) were fabricated by using laser processing on 6065 aluminum alloy matrix (6065Al). Electrochemical deposition of Ni and Graphene/Ni coatings on textured surface was then performed in electrolytes with concentrations of 0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 mg graphene. Surface morphology such as diameter of dimple and width of groove measured by C-PSCN stereo microscope presents addition of graphene helps to refine and homogenize the coating. Corrosion resistant properties of the duplex surface treatment were examined by electrochemical corrosion tests and wear resistant properties were tested by UMT-Tribo Lab friction and wear tester in a dry sliding condition at room temperature. Electrochemical corrosion tests results show that the corrosion resistance of samples is related to the specific surface texture and the dimple texture can improve the electrical corrosion parameters, such as the electrode potential, greatly. Friction and wear tests show that the textured Gr/Ni electroplating coating with the 1.5 mg graphene content has best wear properties under vertical friction and each index, such as the coefficient of friction and wear trace width, are superior to other conditions of samples.

Abstract Kaiser Aluminum alloy KA62 (Tennalum alloy KA62) is a lead-free alternative to 6262. It offers good machinability and corrosion resistance and displays good acceptance of coatings (anodize response). It can be used in place of 6262 because its physical and mechanical properties are equivalent to those of 6262 (see Alloy Digest Al-361, September 1999). This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, tensile properties, and shear strength. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: AL-362. Producer or source: Tennalum, A Division of Kaiser Aluminum.

In the research regarding laser-processed micro-textured carbide tool surfaces, there remains a lack of research on the relationship between micro-textured preparation processes and the degree of fatigue wear experienced by micro-textured surfaces. To study the effect of a laser-textured surface on the friction and wear properties of friction pairs, it first of all conducted friction and wear tests to obtain optimal processing parameters. By using a scanning electron microscope, the fatigue wear mechanism for a micro-textured surface was observed. Experimental results based on fatigue wear theory show that a micro-textured surface phase has better fatigue resistance than a smooth surface. Under the same friction conditions and selected test parameters, a micro-textured surface phase can reduce the maximum fatigue and friction wear of a smooth surface by 38.4%. This study provides a theoretical basis and source of reference for the rational formulation of micro-texture parameters and improvements in the performance of micro-textures during cutting processes.

The microstructure of the galvanized coating was investigated using scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope. The immersing and electrochemical corrosion tests were carried out to study the corrosion resistance of the galvanized coating. The addition of Bi in Zn-bath affects remarkably the morphology of the galvanized coating. The thickness of δ + ζ phase layer in the coating reaches the maximum when the content of Bi in Zn-bath is 0.5 wt.%. The corrosion resistance of the galvanized coating declines with the increase of the content of Bi.

In order to improve the wear resistance and extend service life of aluminum alloy parts, the Ni-base alloy anti-wear coatings were prepared on the surfaces of 7A05 aluminum alloy by plasma spraying technology. The microstructure and interface of the coatings were analyzed, and the friction and wear properties of Ni-base alloy coatings and aluminum alloy substrates were investigated under dry friction condition at room temperature. The research results show that the main phases of Ni-base alloy coating are γ-Ni, CrB and Cr23C6. The thicknesses of diffusion layers existing between intermediate layer and coating, intermediate layer and substrate are respectively 15μm and 20μm. The bonding types of the coating and the substrate are mechanical combination accompanied with partially metallurgical combination. When wore against GCr15 steel balls, the average friction coefficient of the Ni-base alloy coatings is 11.6% lower than that of the aluminum alloy substrates, and the average wear loss of the former is 9.3mg, which is only 1/3 of that of the latter. With the increase of loads, the wear mechanisms of the Ni-base alloy coatings change from slightly micro-cutting wear and fatigue wear to abrasive wear and micro-fracture wear, while those of the aluminum alloy substrates are mainly adhesive wear and abrasive wear as well as slight oxidation wear.

Potential difference between two phases in the Ti-6Al-4V alloy results in the galvanic cell reaction and corrosion. In order to improve the properties of Ti-6Al-4V, it was treated under different temperature with the atmosphere of 5vol. % oxygen and 95 vol. % nitrogen. The results showed that the titanium alloy surface is formed a layer of oxide and nitride compound layer. Sample treated at the temperature of 800°C had the most outstanding corrosion resistance and mechanical property.
