In this study we report efficient method for the syntheses of mono- and diarylated diphenyldithienylethene (DPDTE) via a palladium-catalyzed C–H arylation reaction. These new derivatives showed amplified luminescent properties thanks to a change in polarity, particularly in the presence of an electron-withdrawing groups (EWG). Moreover, the arylated DPDTEs showed dual-emissive phenomena, including fluorescence in organic solvents and aggregation-induced emission.

A highly efficient method for the synthesis of diversely substituted furo[2,3-b]pyrazines has been elaborated. The Ag+- or iodine-mediated electrophilic cyclization of readily generated 5-chloro-3-substituted ethynyl-1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-pyrazin-2(1H)-ones affords substituted furo[2,3-b]pyrazines, which undergo various palladium catalyzed reactions to generate a library of difficult to attain diversely substituted furo[2,3-b]pyrazines.

A new luminescent material, 1-acetyl-2-naphthol-4, 4'-diaminodiphenyl ether Mg (II) has been designed, synthesized and characterized. The infrared spectrum and luminescent properties of Mg (II) material have been investigated. The results indicate that the Mg (II) fluorescent material emits blue luminescence with an emission peak at 455 nm when excited at 327 nm, and the effect of organic solvents on the luminous intensity of Mg (II) fluorescent material was arranged in the order CH3CH2OH > DMSO > solid> CH3OH.

As a “glue” of water, a small organic molecule with the novel hydrogen-bonding cross-linked aggregation-induced emission (AIE) property was designed to detect trace water, displaying a wide linear range (0–40%, v/v) in most of the organic solvents.
