Distoseptispora is one of the sporidesmium-like taxa with great variation in asexual morphology and delineation of species. Phylogenetic analyses of four gene regions LSU, ITS, TEF1α, and RPB2 revealed the placement of several sporidesmium-like species in Distoseptispora (Distoseptisporaceae, Distoseptisporales, Sordariomycetes), collected on submerged decaying twigs from streams in China and Thailand. Based on morphological examination and molecular DNA data, six new species, Distoseptispora amniculi, D. atroviridis, D. effusa, D. fusiformis, D. hyalina, and D. verrucosa, are proposed. Among them, D. hyalina is the first sexual morph confirmed in the genus. A new geographical record is reported for D. lignicola in China. Conidial length proved to be of less taxonomic significance for some Distoseptispora species, whereas the type of conidial septa is informative at species level.

In this paper, we report a new asexual-morph taxon belonging to the family Cordycipitaceae (Hypocreales), which is associated with a sexual morph of an ophioceras-like taxon on submerged wood collected from Baoshan, Yunnan, China. Morphologically, this new taxon is similar to known asexual morphs of Lecanicillium and characterized by conidiophores arising from hyaline hyphae, with gregarious, ellipsoid to ovoid, aseptate conidia. Phylogenetic analyses of a combined LSU, SSU, tef1-α and ITS sequence dataset positions our taxon in Cordycipitaceae and close to Lecanicillium sp. (CBS 639.85) and L. primulinum. Lecanicillium subprimulinum is introduced as a new species with support from molecular data.

Eight freshwater asexual strains collected from China and Thailand were subjected to morpho-molecular analyses. BLAST search results showed that the new strains belonged to Pleurotheciales, Sordariomycetes. Phylogenetic analyses based on a combined LSU, SSU, ITS and RPB2 sequence dataset are used to clarify the placement of the new strains within Pleurotheciales. Pleurothecium guttulatum and Pleurotheciella sympodia are introduced as two new species from freshwater habitats. New geographical record of Pleurotheciella nilotica from Asia (Thailand and China) is reported. New habitat and geographical records of Phaeoisaria annesophieae (from freshwater habitats in Asia) are reported. Descriptions and illustrations of the new species and records, as well as known species Rhexoacrodictys erecta and Phaeoisaria annesophieae, are provided. A key to Pleurotheciella species is provided.

Ochroconis helicteris, a novel species of the oligotrophic genus Ochroconis (Sympoventuriaceae, Venturiales), has been described and illustrated. Morphologically, this species has characters similar to allied species in the genus Ochroconis, but differs in conidial dimensions and shape. Phylogenetic analyses using nuclear ribosomal DNA gene ITS and protein coding gene BT2 revealed it clustering as monophyletic clade which was separated from known Ochroconis species. New species was isolated from leaf surface of medicinal plant Helicteris isora L.

The genus Phillipsia (Sarcoscyphaceae) is characterized by large, bright-coloured, sub-stipitate apothecia, sub-operculate asci and asymmetrical ascospores with longitudinal striations. Morphological and phylogenetic studies were carried out on new collections of Phillipsia from China and Thailand. Phillipsia subpurpurea are recorded from China and Phillipsia gelatinosa from Thailand is introduced as a new species to science. Our new collections are confirmed to be divergent from other species of Phillipsia based on morphological examination and molecular phylogenetic analyses of ITS and LSU sequence data. Descriptions and figures are provided for the taxa which are also compared with allied taxa.

Asexual morph members of Tetraplosphaeriaceae (Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes) are generally hyphomycetes and usually found as saprobes occurring on various hosts in lentic habitats. Two isolates of a novel species, Tetraploa aquatica sp. nov., was collected from submerged decaying wood in Dulong river and a stream of Gaoligongshan mountain in Yunnan Province, China. The new species is characterized by short-cylindrical conidia, composed of 4-euseptate, short-cylindrical vertical columns which are verrucose at the base and with 4-setose vertical septate appendages. Tetraploa aquatica can be easily distinguished from other Tetraploa species by their columns which are 2–3-septate, aguttulate, vertical, setose appendaged which tend to remain parallel to one another apically. Phylogenetic analyses of combined LSU, ITS and SSU sequence data support its natural placement in Tetraploa. Detailed description and illustrations of this species and comparisons with other morphologically similar taxa in Tetraploa are provided.

Sidera is a polypore genus with white to cream or buff basidiomata, whose species in Hymenochaetales are poorly known. We study the phylogeny and diversity of Sidera based on our recent collections from tropic and subtropic Asian-Pacific regions. Phylogenetic analyses based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and nuclear large subunit (nLSU) ribosomal RNA gene regions indicate that ten terminal lineages are well supported within Sidera. Based on morphological examination and phylogeny, four new species, viz. Sidera minutissima, S. parallela, S. srilankensis and S. tenuis are described, and a new combination, Sidera minutipora, is proposed. All these species are illustrated. Sidera minutissima is characterized by tiny basidiomata with bluish pores when fresh, generative hyphae dominating at the dissepiment edges, the presence of cystidioles, and allantoid basidiospores measuring 3.8–4.4 × 0.9–1.3 μm. Sidera parallela differs from other poroid species in the genus by having parallel tramal hyphae in combination with lunate basidiospores measuring 2.8–3.3 × 0.9–1.2 μm. Sidera srilankensis have generative and skeletal hyphae co-dominating at the dissepiment edges, and lunate basidiospores measuring 3.5–4 × 1–1.3 μm. Sidera tenuis is distinguished by small pores (8–10 per mm) and relatively long allantoid basidiospores measuring 4.2–5 × 0.8–1 μm. Sidera minutipora is characterized by buff to olivaceous buff basidiomata when dry, 5–7 pores per mm, rosette-like crystals rare, and allantoid basidiospores measuring 3.7–4.3 × 1–1.3 μm. An identification key to all accepted species is provided.

Pluteus lauracearum, a new species of Pluteus sect. Hispidoderma, is described and illustrated based on macro- and micromorphological data and phylogenetic analyses of the nuclear rDNA sequences of the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region. Morphologically, this novel species is characterized by small basidiomata having whitish to dark brown pileus colour, with finely to distinctly granulose surface, a white and translucently striate pileus margin, and mostly narrowly fusiform to lageniform pleurocystidia with long narrow necks and a distinctly subcapitate to capitate apex. This new species is described based on collections made in Turkey (Kuşadası) and Portugal (Madeira), where they were growing on well-rotten wood in thermophilic Laurus forests. Pluteus lauracearum is compared with taxa in Pluteus sect. Hispidoderma that are morphologically similar and/or phylogenetically related.

During a survey of keratinolytic fungi in China, three Cunninghamella strains were isolated. Phylogenetic analyses of ITS and ITS+LSU+EF-1α sequence data showed that these strains constitute a new species related to C. blakesleeana, C. bigelovii, C. multiverticillata and C. phaeospora. The new species differs from C. multiverticillata and C. phaeospora in the shape and size of its teminal and lateral vesicles and can be distinguished from C. blakesleeana and C. bigelovii by the absent of zygosporangia, and the shape and size of it sporangioles. The results of phylogenetic and morphological analyses indicate that the three strains are a new species of Cunninghamella. Descriptions and illustrations of this novel species are provided in this paper.

Morphologically similarAphelenchoidesspp. populations extracted from rice and forage grass seeds from different geographical regions in Brazil were morphologically and molecularly characterised. Overall, the populations studied separated into two groups based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses, referred to herein as ‘Group-rice’ and ‘Group-forage’. Bayesian phylogenetic analyses of SSU, LSU and mtCOI regions strongly supported the presence of two dichotomous groups with Group-rice and Group-forage populations genetically similar toA. besseyiandA. fujianensis, respectively. This study reports the presence of a morphologically similar species toA. besseyiassociated with seeds of grasses, but genetically distinct based on three genomic regions, which our results strongly suggest to beA. fujianensis, this being a new geographical record for Brazil. Additional information regarding spicule morphology of maleA. besseyiis also reported.

The genus Jupoata is redescribed and Jupoata antonkozlovi, a new species from Costa Rica is described. An updated key to species of the genus and a new geographical record are provided.
