The sustained development of wind energies requires a dramatic rising of turbine blade size especially for their off-shore implantation, which requires as well composite materials with higher performances. In this context, the monitoring of the health of these structures appears essential to decrease maintenance costs, and produce a cheaper kwh. Thus, the input of quantum resistive sensors (QRS) arrays, to monitor the strain gradient in area of interest and anticipate damage in the core of composite structures, without compromising their mechanical properties, sounds promising. QRS are nanostructured strain and damage sensors, transducing strain at the nanoscale into a macroscopic resistive signal for a consumption of only some µW. QRS can be positioned on the surface or in the core of the composite material between plies, and this homogeneously as they are made of the same resin as the composite. The embedded QRS had a gauge factor of 3, which was found more than enough to follow the strain from 0.01% to 1.4% at the final failure. The spatial deployment of four QRS in array made possible for the first time the experimental visualization of a strain field comparable to the numerical simulation. QRS proved also to be able to memorize damage accumulation within the sample and thus could be used to attest the mechanical history of composites.

Silk is one of the most important materials in the history of medical practice. Owing to its excellent strength, biocompatibility and degradability, silk from Bombyx mori – which is structured as a concentric assembly of silk fibroin (SF) coated by a sheath of sericin (SS) – has long been used for wound treatment. Here, we recapitulate for the first time the topology of native silk fibers using a radically new materials design-oriented approach to achieve unprecedented porous dermal patches suitable for controlled drug delivery. The method implies four steps: (1) removing SS; (2) creating anisotropic macroporosity in SF via ice templating; (3) stabilizing the SF foam with a methanolic solution of Rifamycin (Rif) antibiotic; and (4) coating Rif-loaded redesigned SF foams with a SS sheath. The core-shell SS@SF foams exhibit water wicking properties accommodate up to ~20% lateral deformation. Moreover, monitoring of antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus revealed that the SS@SF foams’ Rif release extended up to 9 days. We anticipate that reverse-engineering of silk foams opens exciting new avenues towards the fabrication of advanced drug eluting silk-based biomaterial platforms with improved performance. The present approach can be generalizable to re-build multicomponent biological materials with tunable porosity.<br>

The history of the Indonesian youth political movement in 1928 not only inherited national politics with the ties of "imagine of Indonesia" as a homeland, nation and language, namely Indonesia. But it also gave birth to the view that youth is the core of change. This view became the belief of Indonesian youth in the 1940s to be involved in the revolutionary wave of "imagine of Indonesia" in a more critical and progressive manner in political actions. This paper aims to explain youth activism in Jakarta around a more advanced proclamation, accelerating from national politics to populist politics. There were two strongest youth node organizations in Jakarta at that time, Asrama Menteng Raya 31 and Prapatan 10. Both of them brought together young people from different ethnic and national backgrounds. But the youth political movement in the 1940s had a more populist political tone with its political activities carrying out political education work in order to mobilize people's awareness of the struggle for independence. Then the youth in Jakarta formed an organizational node called the Angkatan Pemuda Indonesia (API), which contributed to the historical events of the grand meeting at Ikada Square on September 19, 1945. Where Sukarno spoke as President of Indonesia for the first time in front of a mass mobilized by youth after the reading of the proclamation on August 17, 1945.

Abstract. IODP Expedition 357 utilized seabed drills for the first time in the history of the ocean drilling program, with the aim of collecting intact sequences of shallow mantle core from the Atlantis Massif to examine serpentinization processes and the deep biosphere. This novel drilling approach required the development of a new remote seafloor system for delivering synthetic tracers during drilling to assess for possible sample contamination. Here, we describe this new tracer delivery system, assess the performance of the system during the expedition, provide an overview of the quality of the core samples collected for deep biosphere investigations based on tracer concentrations, and make recommendations for future applications of the system.

Por primera vez en la historia nacional se revelaban sucesos ocultos e ignorados durante siglos. Tras 41 años, la suerte nos deparó un hallazgo extraordinario: el programa y el libreto de la representación coreográfica basada en dicho libro y realizada bajo la dirección de Rolando Campos y del poeta César Calvo. Precisamente, este documento es el núcleo delas anotaciones y comentarios para demostrar la historia del primer grito de la libertad e independencia protagonizado por los esclavos antes de la Revolución de Túpac Amaru II. La recreación artístico-musical, así como las reflexiones históricas que aporta este encuentro forman parte del Bicentenario en el Aula. Precisely this document is the core of the annotations and comments to demonstrate the history of the first cry of Freedom and Independence starring the slaves before the Revolution ofTúpac Amaru II. This article discusses Hugo Riemann's notion of a tonal or harmonic function, which he first introduced into musical-theoretical discourse, Vereinfachte Harmonielehre in 1893. Riemann's notion of a tonal function refers to either the chords or properties of chords, classified as: tonic, dominant, and subdominant. In this article, the focus is on the equation of “function” with “meaning”, because it is in this connection that the term “function” occurs for the first time, and because the equation forms the core of the later references to the idea. What follows is a critical appraisal rather than history of the concept. The aim in this article is to consider within broad but specific historical boundaries, the discursive potential of the term in Riemann's theoretical writings.

In the early 1970s, the German fencing coach Emil Beck invented a new training model that deviated from the traditional French and Italian schools. Beck's model, named for the fencing club he established, Tauberbischofsheim, revolutionized the way fencing was taught. It was a rational, formal system based on McDonaldization - the economic consumption paradigm developed by sociologist George Ritzer. This article studies the Tauberbischofsheim training model as a turning point in the history of fencing. It analyzes the core principles of the system and the revolution it brought about. The McDonaldization paradigm applied to fencing undermined the basic tenets of fencing instruction, introducing a rational coaching plan and individualized lessons chosen from a pre-set menu. The coach became more of a guide than a trainer. For the first time, it was possible to teach fencing without being a consummate professional or an expert in the traditional instruction methods. The success of Beck's students has been unprecedented in the world of fencing.

For the first time in the Russian science, the research focuses on the drama of Demyan Bedny. It dwells upon the works of the poet, which were staged. Using the archived materials of the manuscript department of the Institute of World Literature, the author shows the history of the play by Demyan Bedny “How the Fourteenth Division Got to Heaven” and explores one of the core dramatic principles of the poet: a poem is first written, and later staged. The performance of the Moscow Music Hall “How the Fourteenth Division Got to Heaven” (1932), having entered the history of the Soviet theatre as one of its highlights, played a key role in shaping the special phenomenon of performing arts — the theatre of satire and variety entertainment.

In the history of botany, Adam Zalužanský (d. 1613), a Bohemian physician, apothecary, botanist and professor at the University of Prague, is a little-known personality. Linnaeus's first biographers, for example, only knew Zalužanský from hearsay and suspected he was a native of Poland. This ignorance still pervades botanical history. Zalužanský is mentioned only peripherally or not at all. As late as the nineteenth century, a researcher would be unaware that Zalužanský’s main work Methodi herbariae libri tres actually existed in two editions from two different publishers (1592, Prague; 1604, Frankfurt). This paper introduces the life and work of Zalužanský. Special attention is paid to the chapter “De sexu plantarum” of Zalužanský’s Methodus, in which, more than one hundred years before the well-known De sexu plantarum epistola of R. J. Camerarius, the sexuality of plants is suggested. Additionally, for the first time, an English translation of Zalužanský’s chapter on plant sexuality is provided.

This article describes a crucial and fundamental stage in the transformation of Hebrew children's literature, during the late 1930s and 1940s, from a single channel of expression to a multi-layered polyphony of models and voices. It claims that for the first time in the history of Hebrew children's literature there took place a doctrinal confrontation between two groups of taste-makers. The article outlines the pedagogical and ideological designs of traditionalist Zionist educators, and suggests how these were challenged by a group of prominent writers of adult poetry, members of the Modernist movement. These writers, it is argued, advocated autonomous literary creation, and insisted on a high level of literary quality. Their intervention not only dramatically changed the repertoire of Hebrew children's literature, but also the rules of literary discourse. The article suggests that, through the Modernists’ polemical efforts, Hebrew children's literature was able to free itself from its position as an apparatus controlled by the political-educational system and to become a dynamic and multi-layered field.
