The public bicycle system is an important component of “mobility as a service” and has become increasingly popular in recent years. To provide a better understanding of the station activity and driving mechanisms of public bicycle systems, the study mainly compares the usage and temporal characteristics of public bicycles in the vicinity of the most common commuting-related points of interest and land use. It applies the peak hour factor, distribution fitting, and K-means clustering analysis on station-based data and performs the public bicycles usage and operation comparison among different points of interest and land use. The following results are acquired: (1) the demand type for universities and hospitals in peaks is return-oriented when that of middle schools is hire-oriented; (2) bike hire and return at metro stations and hospitals are frequent, while only the rental at malls is; (3) compared to middle schools and subway stations with the shortest bike usage duration, malls have the longest duration, valued at 18.08 min; and (4) medical and transportation land, with the most obvious morning return peak and the most concentrated usage in a whole day, respectively, both present a lag relation between bike rental and return. In rental-return similarity, the commercial and office lands present the highest level.

New urbanism aims to reform the constructed cities as it seeks to create new and complete cities. The main idea of transit oriented development (TOD) is manly based on the public railroad transportation as the quickest and most effective tool in competition with automobiles (car) in order to cause an effective change in the transportation style and decrease the dependence on cars and horizontal growth of the city. In the current study, the experiences of the development corridors are analyzed after investigating the transit oriented development using applied descriptive method and the planning, capitalization and implementation methods are examined based on the corridor development theory. Types of land use suitable for development including residential, commercial, educational, leisure time and so are evaluated in terms of establishment and location. Next, the feasibility of implementation of this method in new spaces created by subway lines in the Mashhad city is studied. Investigation of one of the urban train lines shows that a station named Koohestan Park (mountain-park) located in the Vakil Abad Boulevard has appropriate potentials and advantages for corridor development and urban investments and can contain diverse land uses for orientation toward sustainable objectives. Finally, land use and market activity in the area around this station are investigated using the SWOT model and the necessity of investment and creation of corridor development unit is evaluated.

Malaria is a serious infectious disease that leads to massive casualties globally. Myanmar is a key battleground for the global fight against malaria because it is where the emergence of drug-resistant malaria parasites has been documented. Controlling the spread of malaria in Myanmar thus carries global significance, because the failure to do so would lead to devastating consequences in vast areas where malaria is prevalent in tropical/subtropical regions around the world. Thanks to its wide and consistent spatial coverage, remote sensing has become increasingly used in the public health domain. Specifically, remote sensing-based land cover/land use (LCLU) maps present a powerful tool that provides critical information on population distribution and on the potential human-vector interactions interfaces on a large spatial scale. Here, we present a 30-meter LCLU map that was created specifically for the malaria control and eradication efforts in Myanmar. This bottom-up approach can be modified and customized to other vector-borne infectious diseases in Myanmar or other Southeastern Asian countries.

The knowledge of the topological structure and the automatic fare collection systems in urban public transport produce many data that need to be adequately analyzed, processed and presented. These data provide a powerful tool to improve the quality of transport services and plan ahead. This paper aims at studying, from a mathematical and statistical point of view, the Barcelona metro network; specifically: (1) the structural and robustness characteristics of the transportation network are computed and analyzed considering the complex network analysis; and (2) the common characteristics of the different subway stations of Barcelona, based on the passenger hourly entries, are identified through hierarchical clustering analysis. These results will be of great help in planning and restructuring transport to cope with the new social conditions, after the pandemic.

<p>The problem of elevated NO<sub>2</sub> levels in cities has gained some attention in the public in recent years and has given rise to questions about the plausibility of banning diesel engines in cities, the meaning of exceedances of air quality limits and the effects of corona lock-downs on air quality to name a few. Urban air quality is typically monitored using a relatively small number of monitoring stations. Those in-situ measurements follow certain guidelines in terms of inlet height and location relative to streets, but the question remains how a limited number of point measurements can capture the spatial variability in cities. In this talk we present two measurement campaigns in Hong Kong and Munich where we utilized a combination of mobile in-situ and stationary remote sensing differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS) instruments. We developed an algorithm to separate spatial and temporal patterns in order to generate pollution maps that represent average NO<sub>2</sub> exposure. </p> <p>We use those maps to identify pollution hot spots and capture the weekly cycles of on-road NO2 levels and spatial dependency of long-term changes and we analyze how on-road measurements compare to monitoring station data and how the measurement height and distance to traffic emissions have to be considered when interpreting observed concentration patterns.</p>

Fine-scale, accurate intra-urban functional zones (urban land use) are important for applications that rely on exploring urban dynamic and complexity. However, current methods of mapping functional zones in built-up areas with high spatial resolution remote sensing images are incomplete due to a lack of social attributes. To address this issue, this paper explores a novel approach to mapping urban functional zones by integrating points of interest (POIs) with social properties and very high spatial resolution remote sensing imagery with natural attributes, and classifying urban function as residence zones, transportation zones, convenience shops, shopping centers, factory zones, companies, and public service zones. First, non-built and built-up areas were classified using high spatial resolution remote sensing images. Second, the built-up areas were segmented using an object-based approach by utilizing building rooftop characteristics (reflectance and shapes). At the same time, the functional POIs of the segments were identified to determine the functional attributes of the segmented polygon. Third, the functional values—the mean priority of the functions in a road-based parcel—were calculated by functional segments and segmental weight coefficients. This method was demonstrated on Xiamen Island, China with an overall accuracy of 78.47% and with a kappa coefficient of 74.52%. The proposed approach could be easily applied in other parts of the world where social data and high spatial resolution imagery are available and improve accuracy when automatically mapping urban functional zones using remote sensing imagery. It will also potentially provide large-scale land-use information.
