Highway infrastructure plays an important role in assuring the proper function of the nation’s transportation. Highway alignment is an essential part of the highway planning and design phase, which has significant effects on the surroundings. Identifying optimal highway routes while using traditional methods requires significant time, cost, and effort, since it requires a comprehensive assessment of multiple factors, such as cost and environmental impacts. This study proposes an approach for managing highway alignment in the context of a larger landscape that integrates building information modelling (BIM) and geographic information system (GIS) capabilities. To support this integration, semantic web technologies are used to integrate data on a semantic level. Moreover, the approach also uses genetic algorithms (GAs) for optimizing highway alignments. A fully automated model is developed that enables data interoperability between BIM and GIS systems and also allows for data exchange between the integration model and the optimization algorithm. The model enables the full exploitation of features of the project and its surroundings for highway alignment planning. The proposed model is also applied to a real highway project to validate its effectiveness. The visualization model of the highway project and its surroundings provides a realistic three-dimensional image that produces a comprehensive virtual environment, where the project could be effectively planned and designed. That can help to reduce design errors and miscommunication, which, in turn, reduces project risks. Moreover, geological and geographical analyses help to identify geohazards and environmentally sensitive regions. The proposed model facilitates highway alignment planning by providing a cross-disciplinary approach to close the gap between the infrastructural and geotechnical planning processes.

The isolation of geo-technical analysis from highway planning and design also delays the planning process. This study therefore proposes a model that integrates building information modelling (BIM) and geographic information science (GIS) capabilities to facilitate the planning and design process. Semantic web technologies are used to integrate BIM and GIS data on a semantic level. The proposed model also helps to identify geohazards by providing geological analysis. The visualization of the proposed project can help reduce design errors and miscommunication, which, in turn, reduces project risk. In addition, the model facilitates highway alignment optimization by incorporating visualization, simulation, and analysis into the planning and design phase. The proposed model provides future opportunities for project professionals to have organized, reliable and dynamic ways to manage the project during construction.

 Data integration is an important step in integrating information from multiple sources. The problem is how to find and combine data from scattered data sources that are heterogeneous and have semantically informant interconnections optimally. The heterogeneity of data sources is the result of a number of factors, including storing databases in different formats, using different software and hardware for database storage systems, designing in different data semantic models (Katsis & Papakonstantiou, 2009, Ziegler & Dittrich , 2004). Nowadays there are two approaches in doing data integration that is Global as View (GAV) and Local as View (LAV), but both have different advantages and limitations so that proper analysis is needed in its application. Some of the major factors to be considered in making efficient and effective data integration of heterogeneous data sources are the understanding of the type and structure of the source data (source schema). Another factor to consider is also the view type of integration result (target schema). The results of the integration can be displayed into one type of global view or a variety of other views. So in integrating data whose source is structured the approach will be different from the integration of the data if the data source is not structured or semi-structured. Scheme mapping is a specific declaration that describes the relationship between the source scheme and the target scheme. In the scheme mapping is expressed in in some logical formulas that can help applications in data interoperability, data exchange and data integration. In this paper, in the case of establishing a patient referral center data center, it requires integration of data whose source is derived from a number of different health facilities, it is necessary to design a schema mapping system (to support optimization). Data Center as the target orientation schema (target schema) from various reference service units as a source schema (source schema) has the characterization and nature of data that is structured and independence. So that the source of data can be integrated tersetruktur of the data source into an integrated view (as a data center) with an equivalent query rewriting (equivalent). The data center as a global schema serves as a schema target requires a "mediator" that serves "guides" to maintain global schemes and map (mapping) between global and local schemes. Data center as from Global As View (GAV) here tends to be single and unified view so to be effective in its integration process with various sources of schema which is needed integration facilities "integration". The "Pemadu" facility is a declarative mapping language that allows to specifically link each of the various schema sources to the data center. So that type of query rewriting equivalent is suitable to be applied in the context of query optimization and maintenance of physical data independence.Keywords: Global as View (GAV), Local as View (LAV), source schema ,mapping schema

Aim: To facilitate researchers and practitioners for unveiling the mysterious functional aspects of human cellular system through performing exploratory searching on semantically integrated heterogeneous and geographically dispersed omics annotations. Background: Improving health standards of life is one of the motives which continuously instigates researchers and practitioners to strive for uncovering the mysterious aspects of human cellular system. Inferring new knowledge from known facts always requires reasonably large amount of data in well-structured, integrated and unified form. Due to the advent of especially high throughput and sensor technologies, biological data is growing heterogeneously and geographically at astronomical rate. Several data integration systems have been deployed to cope with the issues of data heterogeneity and global dispersion. Systems based on semantic data integration models are more flexible and expandable than syntax-based ones but still lack aspect-based data integration, persistence and querying. Furthermore, these systems do not fully support to warehouse biological entities in the form of semantic associations as naturally possessed by the human cell. Objective: To develop aspect-oriented formal data integration model for semantically integrating heterogeneous and geographically dispersed omics annotations for providing exploratory querying on integrated data. Method: We propose an aspect-oriented formal data integration model which uses web semantics standards to formally specify its each construct. Proposed model supports aspect-oriented representation of biological entities while addressing the issues of data heterogeneity and global dispersion. It associates and warehouses biological entities in the way they relate with Result: To show the significance of proposed model, we developed a data warehouse and information retrieval system based on proposed model compliant multi-layered and multi-modular software architecture. Results show that our model supports well for gathering, associating, integrating, persisting and querying each entity with respect to its all possible aspects within or across the various associated omics layers. Conclusion: Formal specifications better facilitate for addressing data integration issues by providing formal means for understanding omics data based on meaning instead of syntax

This paper focuses on transportation models in smart cities. We propose a new dynamic mobility traffic (DMT) scheme which combines public buses and car ride-sharing. The main objective is to improve transportation by maximizing the riders’ satisfaction based on real-time data exchange between the regional manager, the public buses, the car ride-sharing and the riders. OpenStreetMap and OMNET++ were used to implement a realistic scenario for the proposed model in a city like Ottawa. The DMT scheme was compared to a multi-loading system used for a school bus. Simulations showed that rider satisfaction was enhanced when a suitable combination of transportation modes was used. Additionally, compared to the other scheme, this DMT scheme can reduce the stress level of car ride-sharing and public buses during the day to the minimal level.

Coordination of highway horizontal and vertical alignments is based on subjective guidelines in current standards. This paper presents a quantitative analysis of coordinating horizontal and sag vertical curves that are designed using two-dimensional standards. The locations where a horizontal curve should not be positioned relative to a sag vertical curve (called red zones) are identified. In the red zone, the available sight distance (computed using three-dimensional models) is less than the required sight distance. Two types of red zones, based on stopping sight distance (SSD) and preview sight distance (PVSD), are examined. The SSD red zone corresponds to the locations where an overlap between a horizontal curve and a sag vertical curve should be avoided because the three-dimensional sight distance will be less than the required SSD. The PVSD red zone corresponds to the locations where a horizontal curve should not start because drivers will not be able to perceive it and safely react to it. The SSD red zones exist for practical highway alignment parameters, and therefore designers should check the alignments for potential SSD red zones. The range of SSD red zones was found to depend on the different alignment parameters, especially the superelevation rate. On the other hand, the results showed that the PVSD red zones exist only for large values of the required PVSD, and therefore this type of red zones is not critical. This paper should be of particular interest to the highway designers and professionals concerned with highway safety.Key words: sight distance, red zone, combined alignment.

The general fractional operator shows its great predominance in the construction of constitutive model owing to its agility in choosing the embedded parameters. A generalized fractional viscoelastic–plastic constitutive model with the sense of the k-Hilfer–Prabhakar ( k-H-P) fractional operator, which has the character recovering the known classical models from the proposed model, is established in this article. In order to describe the damage in the creep process, a time-varying elastic element [Formula: see text] is used in the proposed model with better representation of accelerated creep stage. According to the theory of the kinematics of deformation and the Laplace transform, the creep constitutive equation and the strain of the modified model are established and obtained. The validity and rationality of the proposed model are identified by fitting with the experimental data. Finally, the influences of the fractional derivative order [Formula: see text] and parameter k on the creep process are investigated through the sensitivity analyses with two- and three-dimensional plots.

Rotating parts of turbomachines are generally studied using different uncoupled approaches. For example, the dynamic behavior of shafts and wheels are considered independently and the influence of the surrounding fluid is often taken into account in an approximate way. These approaches, while often sufficiently accurate, are questionable when wheel-shaft coupling is observed or when fluid elements are strongly coupled with local structural deformations (leakage flow between wheel and casing, fluid bearings mounted on a thin-walled shaft, etc.). The approach proposed is a step toward a global model of shaft lines. The whole flexible wheel-shaft assembly and the influence of specific fluid film elements are considered in a fully three-dimensional model. In this paper, the proposed model is first presented and then applied to a simple disk-shaft assembly coupled with a fluid film clustered between the disk and a rigid casing. The finite element method is used together with a modal reduction for the structural analysis. As thin fluid films are considered, the Reynolds equation is solved using finite differences in order to obtain the pressure field. Data are transferred between structural and fluid meshes using a general method based on an interfacing grid concept. The equations governing the whole system are solved within a time-marching procedure. The results obtained show significant influence of specific three-dimensional features such as disk-shaft coupling and local disk deformations on global behavior.

A Greenwood and Williamson based model for interfacial friction is presented that incorporates the presliding transition phenomenon that can significantly affect small devices. This work builds on previous similar models by developing: an analytical estimate of the transition length in terms of material and surface parameters, a general recursion formula for the case of slip in one direction with multiple reversals and constant normal loading, and a numerical method for the general three-dimensional loading case. In addition, the proposed model is developed within a plasticity-like framework and is shown to have qualitative similarities with published experimental observations. A number of model problems illustrate the response of the proposed model to various loading conditions.

A new three-dimensional method is proposed for analyzing orthogonally stiffened grillage structures. The method is based on earlier work related to bridge decks. The relationship between system displacement and loads is described mathematically, and matrices are developed to examine the shear compatibility between plate and beam elements. The paper concludes with a comparison between deflections obtained by several different procedures and the proposed model.

Understanding the hydration behavior of cereals during cooking is industrially important in order to optimize processing conditions. In this study, barley porridge was cooked in a sealed tin can at 100, 115, and 121 °C, respectively, and changes in water uptake and hygroscopic swelling in dehulled barley grains were measured during the cooking of canned porridge. In order to describe and better understand the hydration behaviors of barley grains during the cooking process, a three-dimensional (3D) numerical model was developed and validated. The proposed model was found to be adequate for representing the moisture absorption characteristics with a mean relative deviation modulus (P) ranging from 4.325% to 5.058%. The analysis of the 3D simulation of hygroscopic swelling was satisfactory for describing the expansion in the geometry of barley. Given that the model represented the experimental values adequately, it can be applied to the simulation and design of cooking processes of cereals grains, allowing for saving in both time and costs.
